  1. [/img] He was taken at 27 yards from my treestand....quartering away. Clean pass-thru...the arrow was stuck in the ground on the opposite side. Trotted off about 20 yards, and stood there looking around...then fell over...stone dead. Less than 30 seconds from the time of the shot. (that's the entrance wound you can see) Bob
  2. I lived in NB for 7 years... Chances of a colour phase bear are not very high...but chances at a bear are VERY high !! Where abouts will you be hunting? Who's your outfitter? Bob

    How was it?

W-e-l-l...I tell ya... I have been frequenting these Forums for a good many years. buckee, Leo, Tbow, myself got our initiation to internet forums through another site, many, many moons ago. I come to hunting forums to share my experiences, and my experience, with those who have an interest to hear them or learn from them...and, likewise, I hope to learn from yours. Not only does it make me a better hunter...but it makes me a better person, too. To try to put the changes in a single word...I would say 'competetiveness'....yup...a lot of the angst we read is rooted in competetiveness. Thirty-seven years ago, I started carrying a firearm in the woods...Back then, we shared the hunting experience. A fellow hunter's success was celebrated...we'd lend a hand as best we could...it was smiles and slaps-on-the-back, and congrats all around. I bring that up because it doesn't seem to be that way in the woodlands anymore...nor here, at times. There is an ever present need for one-upmanship, so it would appear. A drive to be determined the best...THE voice. Some competition is healthy...some competition is fun. But sometimes, it gets in the way of civility, too. Bob
  4. Hey wooly... would you try a cotton ball / swab on it too and let me know if it works? If it does, it may be a good thing to run over the shafts occasionally. Oh...pull the knock out of that broken shaft if you haven't discarded it already. That way you won't be putting it in the quiver accidentally. Bob
  5. Nope...GRAZING 12 hours a day makes Rosie fat !!! Bob:hammer1:
  6. No worries, Mathews XT Man... It's not something I do...and I am primarily a still hunter. I have seen an arrow 'flip'...and, honestly, I have actual nightmares of what could have been. It is only through His good graces that it wasn't tragic. It can happen so-o-o-o fast and unexpectedly...I guess that's why they're called accidents. LOL For me as a witness to it?...it was a lessoned learned. Bob:rockon:
  7. Word came to me last night of the death early Monday morning of a young man whom my son used to play hockey with, and I coached. He was 18, the same age as my son. The details of what actually happened are unknown, but the car he was passenger in failed to make a corner on the road...and caught on fire. Robert was trapped inside. Perhaps a bit too much speed...very probably heavy fog. Robert's father and I attended school together. Years ago, a man in a similar circumstance told me, " A father should never have to bury his son." I just can't imagine..... Hug your kids today. Life is ever fleeting. Bob
  8. Nice looking bow ! http://strotherarchery.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74&Itemid=107 Bob
  9. Really? You guys walk about with a nocked arrow?:jaw: W-h-y ? Ever seen a nocked arrow fetch up on a tree limb?...It swings back towards ya, doesn't it. It pivots on the string. Now imagine...you start to slip...toss the bow away from you...you're potentially (probably) looking at the business end of that arrow because it pivots. The arrow is longer than your arms...so if you fall towards it, it's going in you. If you roll over it, the blades are going to cut you...and hopefully, that cut isn't your femoral artery ! I don't know that I have ever stalked the woods with an arrow on the string. Sure...after spotting a deer I'll take one out of the quiver...but it doesn't go on the string until the last instant. There is no deer big enough for me to risk a slip or tumble and end up on the wrong end of a broadhead...just because maybe it'll allow a shot. Walking a field's edge or hauling road?...possibly...but never in the bush. It's an unsafe practice.....for sure. An preventable accident looking for a place to happen...IMHO. Bob
  10. We've got hardly any rabbits down this way, TBow...absolute worst year any of us can recall. We had the annual bunny hunt in January...56 hunters...and only 4 rabbits shot !!...Granted, it is a bow hunt, but there wasn't many seen either !! At the end of the day when they were doing the tally, the biggest claim was, "We almost saw one !!" Bob
  11. The 340's will have a stiffer spine, and will be a bit heavier (slower). Go to the easton selection chart: http://www.eastonarchery.com/products/selection ...and size up the shafts you should use. The spine requirement will be affected by your draw weight and the point / broadhead weight you use. Shooting an arrow that is too stiff is hard to tune out of your bow, so if you can't make them match up by increasing the poundage or tip weight...pass on them. You won't be happy with the results. Bob;)
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAIxYbjZhK4 :hammer1: Buddy Hackett is one o' my favourites !! Bob
  13. Yup...Miller is the only reason the US is in the gold medal game. They have a good team...but he is standing on his head! Thornton...Nash...Staal...they've got great hands, and need to park their butts right about eye level...low shots, and bang home the rebounds...although their 'D' has been blocking a pile of shots too ! Gotta get those shots through !! ;) Bob
  14. Here it comes !!:camera: Canada vs USA...Sunday...3:00 ET... It should be the game of all games for these Olympics !:boxing::stretcher::crutch: Git 'er dunnnnnnnnnnn.......... Bob
  15. Baseball ? ...BASEBALL ?!? ...the only game that has a seventh inning 'yawn' !!! Know how to tell a baseball fan at a hockey game?... He's the one watching the ice dry !!:toot::D (j/k) Bob
  16. HEH, Heh, heh...not very likely KT !!...but we're gonna try !!! Bob
  17. Unfortunately, our ice time is at 5:00 Sunday (local time)...the gold medal game is at 4:30 (I think)...:bang: Ah well...that's what DVR's are for !! Bob
  18. I just picked up a new 2010 Martin Firecat TR1...it is my first new bow in about 15 years. I have to say, my PSE 'SR1000' vs. the Firecat?...no comparison...It's not even shot in yet, but that cat growls ! Why did I choose a Martin? Primarily, that is the bow that my local Pro shop carries. I have owned Martins in the past and have absolutely no qualms with their bows, but local service is a BIG plus to me. Like has been said, visit a local pro shop and handle a few bows...and if they have them there for you to handle, chances are they work on them too. Bob;)
  19. Just picked up a new 2010 Martin Firecat TR1 on Saturday. Ripcord rest and Boomslang sight... ...and all I can say is.....:jaw: !! This is my first new bow in about 15 years. WHY did I wait soooo long ?!?:hammer1: Bob
  20. Wooo hooooooo...SNOW DAY !!!:toot: ...I got up at 5:30...plowed...and got the snowblower out...driveway was done... ENOUGH ALREADY !! (but they say there's more to come !) Ah well...we can't complain Lewis...it's been a pretty easy year...so far !! Bob :surrender:
  21. :jaw: :bummed: :nurse:   Bob
  22. Circumference © = pi X diameter (D) pi = 3.1416 Check the specs on your arrow...find its OUTSIDE diameter...multiply by pi...that's its circumference. Bob
  23. 140 - 190 pounds !?! :jaw: WOW !!! Up here, we use them little ones for bait !!:fish: Ain't even worthwhile to take the rod out for anything under 750...but we prefer the 1400 pounders.:flex: :rockon: Bob
  24. And that is the avenue he should have taken, Lewis. It is not part of his authority to conduct any type of personal 'witch hunt'. If he was actually intent on ensuring the procedures were authorized by the guardian parent, he should not be quizzing the child. Megan is a minor, and it his duty to see she is NOT put into a compromising (uncomfortable) circumstance. I'd report this incident. I'm not comfortable with his explanation...nor should it ever happen again, with ANY of his patients. A lesson learned by the dentist?...maybe...but it should be monitored by someone who has authority / jurisdiction over him. He was out-of-line...IMHO Bob
  25. Naahhh...don't do that 92xj !! Shooting a limit of 'Canadians' :jaw:...well...that just ain't politically correct !!:crutch: Don't ya like us?... Heck ! I didn't even know there was a limit on us !!:surrender: Bob
