Re: ROBBED! I only had 1 stand hung in that location. I could've hunted on the ground, but I was steaming. Kinda ruined my day, and the hunt.

Re: Deer #1 in the Books! congrats on the quick kill. wish it was that easy for me. I'm still yet to get a shot opportunity. we definitely need a pic.

Re: morning vs evening this is close to a post I just started. didn't see this one right away. once the temps cool off the morning hunts seem to get better. In your case, it may be worth cutting a decent trail through those briars to give you a good entry route. I did something similar last year. I cut a trail through a slough as a way to get into my spot which was opposite of the way the deer would be coming from. didn't spook them that way.

Re: BUCK BOMBS? how much does one can last? I think it's kind of cool actually. I may just give it a try once, during the rut. I'm assuming one can will last a few hours. otherwise, you guys are right, it could be a pain carrying a bunch of those things around.

Re: I Love this stuff!! awesome hunt. you should practice out of your stand. maybe just atleast shoot an arrow with a fieldtip at a distinct leaf on the ground when you first get in the stand. Like LifeNRA said, bend at the waste.

what's everyone's opinions on hunting in the morning when it's hot out? I usually morning and afternoon in the early season, but this year it's pretty warm thus far. This opening week we've had daytime temps from the 70's on up to the 90's. The coolest morning thus far was on opening day when I hunted the morning. It was in the 50's and the deer came through about 20 minutes before daylight and were back to bed pretty early. In weather this hot would you forego the morning hunt for fear of educating the deer or hunt it anyway? I'm thinking I may wait for the first cold front to hunt morning stands and just stick with afternoon sits til then. opinions...

Re: Archery from the ground?? just setup in a spot where you know the deer's travel pattern and keep the wind in your face. build a little ground blind to keep you covered up. I'm doing just this very thing this afternoon in an area where there's no trees big enough for a stand. It's on a hillside where there are good trails coming out of a thick bog. One advantage of hunting on the ground is you can sneak in real quiet. None of the noise usually associated with setting up and using a climbing stand. good luck.

North American Whitetail Television is on Tonight!

Re: North American Whitetail Television is on Toni Don and Kandi Kisky are coming on board. They're top notch. -
Re: ROBBED! thanks again Al. I've been wanting to upgrade my existing steps to a new climbing stick anyway so I can do without the screw in steps. Like you said, those probably weigh a lot more than just the stand. Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm pretty much over it at this point. Hopefully I'll have one on the ground either tomorrow or Satuday.

Re: Comfort Zone 15\' Ladder Stand I just got back from Dick's. They are $79 at my local store. They were $59 last week, but back up to $79. Guess they're priced different at each location.

Re: Hunting black bear for the 1st time, need advice. hope you guys get one. should be fun. I want to do a bear hunt, maybe next year. -
Re: Decoying Antelope (photos) those are really awesome. I love that one with the darker markings on his head. I would've had a hard time passing him up. make a really nice mount.

Re: idea about scent elimination.... Your thoughts are right on and should be used in combination with paying attention to the wind, not as a substitute to it. One thing you forgot. your hands. I put on scentblocker gloves when I get dressed, before walking in to my stand. Palms tend to sweat, especially this time of year. This prevents your scent from getting on any foliage or on your ladder or climbing sticks. I had deer directly under me on opening day practially with their nose on my climbing stick and did not get busted. Also, I don't put on my scentlok headcover until I get to the stand. There's a chance my head will brush up against a branch or something, hopefully not, but I think the benefit of not having a sweaty head outweighs any scent protection it offers during the walk in. It's hard enough to breathe in that thing sitting still, nevermind hiking in.

When will the deer start feeding in my plot???
mainebuck replied to AvonLKHunter's topic in Land & Wildlife Management
Re: When will the deer start feeding in my plot??? as was said in another post, with the good acorn crop this year I think they're busy with other food sources. Give em a few weeks. When the acorns get eaten up they'll hit the plots. they haven't really hit mine yet either. I'll wait for a cold snap and check it out again. -
Re: You guys seem to like to score em! he's not a record deer or anything, but I'd shoot him.

Re: as anyone used...... I was going to pick one up for this year but never did. mosquitos have not been bad at all this year. haven't had any on me. it would definitely be a benefit during summer scouting though. I got chewed all through July and August. probably ask for one for Christmas.

Re: Comfort Zone 15\' Ladder Stand really, I may have to pick one up. was there today, did not see it.

Re: Hunting Log Computer Software I developed an Access database to do just this called Deer Tracker. I was selling it a couple months ago, but decided to hold off and use it myself for a year in an attempt to make it better. Eric, maybe you can help me out by evaluating mine. I'll send you a PM.

Re: Mathews Switchback.... I think all the conditions were related and cumulate in bad shooting. That is, string stretch led to increased draw length. This led to bad form on my part. Bad shooting due to the bad form killed my shooting confidence. All these things added up for me. That being said, now that I'm back to the correct specs it's like night and day. Had a good practice session during the last 15 minutes of legal shooting light this evening. What a joy to shoot again. The beman 400's are like lightning bolts coming off the string. My form is right on again, no flight issues. Hopefully this continues through the rest of the season. Even more so, hopefully I can connect with some brown hair on Friday morning.

Re: Opening Day & Ophelia the rain may not be a bad thing. as long as it's not too heavy it may keep it cool enough for the deer to move. been too hot up here. I'm planning on going Friday even though there are supposed to be showers. Give me a chance to test out my new buckwing treesteand umbrella.

Re: ROBBED! the camera was far away enough off the beaten path it would not have taken a picture if they stole the stand or if they were just going down the pipeline/4-wheeler trail. It was back in the woods with no markers or anything leading to it. I can't imagine they watched me put it up. I was quite suprised to find it gone.

Re: Grip advice for Mathews owners, if you have not... let me know how it works out. Seems like it would be comfortable and maybe reduce the chance of torquing the bow.

Re: Grip advice for Mathews owners, if you have not... Hey lobsterman, I was just thinking and I wonder how it would work just putting one of the Sims insulator wraps around the bare riser and forgetting a grip altogether.
