I haven't shot anything with either, but have tracked deer shot with both. Both performed the way the were supposed to and tracking jobs were short. Haven't had any experiences with the Grim Reapers in quite a while now though, but if they are anything like the early versions they work fine. The g5's I have only seen used a couple times on deer, again, short tracking job, and worked the way they are supposed to. I wouldn't hesitate to use either one of them.

That's great Kyle congratulations!

What's a good price for a TC Encore?
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2 replied to Turkeygirl's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Good advice from William. Look around some sites like gunbroker and see what they are going for. A few different things could change the price. Things like if it is a Pro Hunter or a regular Encore, blued or stainless barrel, camo, black or wood stock/forend all have an influence. Good luck. I love my Encore. Got it in 2004 and haven't hunted with my rifle since. -
Like William said, bigger stores aren't much better (at least the ones I've been to). Went to Gander Mountain one time with an Idler wheel lean issue, I new how to fix it, but didn't have a press, and at the time there wasn't a dealer close to me and I was pressed for time. I ended with the "head tech" there working on my bow, and I had to walk him step by step on what needed to be done with it. He looked at me like I was crazy and said OK. Then he went ahead and charged me for having to tell him how to do his job. Had another experience with my cousins bow at another gander mountain. He outgrew his draw length and went to have different modules put on, and when he got done and came over to shoot it, the "tech" had put his cable slide on the rod the wrong way, it was on the rest side of the bow, so when he shot, the vanes had no clearance. Luckily it was an easy fix. I'd say go out and keep looking around all the shops. They all aren't bad (who knows, maybe the guy was already having a bad day). I got lucky and had a shop move in right across the street from me a few years ago. Great shop and the owner is great.

Guess I'm out too.

If I'm hitting public land or heading out to my uncles, I really just listen to whatever I am in the mood to listen to. I listen to every type of music there is. Sometimes its country, sometimes it's rock, rap, hip-hop, and so on. Now on our way to deer camp in the U.P. I got a little play list together with some Ted Nugent (Fred Bear, call of the wild), some country songs, some funny hunting songs from Da Yoopers and Bananas at Large, and some other stuff that gets me pumped about heading up there. ITs funny because I actually was listening to this playlist last night, and then I seen this post this morning

TC Encore help, wrong forum...I know.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2 replied to 92xj's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Right on T/C's website. Looks like the .50 and .45 are the same breech plugs https://secure.tcarms.com/store/encore-209x50-omega-black-diamond-and-woods-rifle-breech-plug-cat-no-7763.html -
Getting about that time.

If I had to guess, I'd say its not going to happen this year. Sign-ups usually start around the end of July (26th last year, 24th the year before). Seeing as it is a month later, I don't see it happening. Understandable seeing how much work it is, and how much trouble it can be sometimes. -
This is what I do here at home. I swap the cards once a week or every other week. Makes it a quick trip so I'm not spreading to much scent standing around looking at them. I have tried to look at the pics on my small digital camera. Most of the pictures show up but there is always one or two that says that it is not able to view the image.

Switching out ground blinds?
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2 replied to Michiganbowhunter_SQ2's topic in Deer Hunting
Yeah, theft is really my only concern which is why I don't want to leave my intimidator blind up there. I can handle losing a 12 year old blind that cost maybe $100 back then. I plan on dropping some bait down as well and maybe leaving a trail camera up. I will probably hide that pretty good and try and point it so that the blind is in the picture as well. -
Every year we have take a week long trip to the upper peninsula for the opener of gun season. That is pretty much the only time we get up there...usually. This year I think we are going to be taking a trip up 3-4 weeks before to bow hunt and just leave some stuff like stands up there (in the house) to lighten our load when we head back up. My question is this. I want to leave my blind up for that month or so in between trips. BUT, I really don't want to leave my good blind up (Ameristep Intimidator), so I was thinking of putting my 12 year old doghouse blind up in that spot while I am gone and just switching them out when I get back up. Any thoughts? I know the sizes and shapes are different, but I am thinking/hoping that just having SOMETHING there will help. Like I said, we never go up there before (It is a 7-8 hour drive one way) so my blind is usually set up only a day or two before the season starts. I never have trouble seeing deer, but I would like to try this to see if movement will improve doing this.

I don't watch as many as I used to. Some of them I just can't stand the hosts (Nugents show for example). I Like Heartland Bowhunter, Realtree Outdoors, their Monster Bucks show. Bone Collector and Roadtrips are still pretty good, but sometimes Waddell gets into a Nugent like mode and goes on and on. Like RangerClay, I find myself watching the sportsman channel more than the outdoor channel. Another show I like is Hallowed Ground Outdoors. It's similar to Heartland Bowhunter (both on the sportsman channel. I really wish some of these shows would do what Heartland Bowhunter does (I think Hallowed Ground does it too) and put their shows online during the season.

Glad to hear Chris. You and the family are still in my prayers.

I have a Mathews z7. Sadly since I got it in 2010 it hasn't been used much. Haven't had much time to hunt the last couple bow seasons. Add in the fact that I really don't have anywhere close to go and it makes for a pretty boring season :bang: To be honest, I have been thinking about just selling the bow and giving up archery for a few years until I can buy my own land.
-
Only road trip here is our annual trip to the upper peninsula for gun season. I might head up to a friends place up there during bow season for a weekend. One of these years I'll be able to go on an out of state hunt somewhere.

Sorry to hear about all this Chris. Hope everything turns out OK. Sending prayers for you and your family.

Looking to get a DSLR...
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2 replied to Michiganbowhunter_SQ2's topic in Photography & Video
Well I did it. I just finished ordering the Canon 60D from B&H. Came with a 16gb sandisk extremePro memory card, and I got a 55-250 lens as well, and bought a Lowepro bag for it.. I also had some money on my Amazon account, so I decided to get a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens without having to dip into the wallet to much (I sell my old textbooks back to Amazon for gift card/store credit). I put a rush delivery on both orders so I can take it to my grandparents house on the 4th -
Looking to get a DSLR...
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2 replied to Michiganbowhunter_SQ2's topic in Photography & Video
Thanks for the replies guys. I have been looking nonstop at cameras since I posted this. I'm pretty sure I am going with a Canon. I am going back and forth between a T3i or just taking the plunge and getting a 60D. I want something I can learn with but at the same time I don't want to feel like I have "outgrown" it one or two years from now. This is something I have wanted for a few years now, so I want to make sure I didn't wait all this time to end up getting the "wrong" camera . -
I'm looking to get a new camera and am hoping some of you can give me a few ideas on what to get. I am hoping to find a decent bundle with the body and maybe a couple lenses. I will be taking a lot of normal family event type photos (birthday parties, holiday's stuff like that), and I want to take outdoors type photo's. We get a lot of deer and turkey's around the house, and I would like to be able to snap a few pics of them. What do you all recommend? I have looked at the Canon 60D, T4i, T3i and the Nikon D5100 and D90 and I just can't decide. Going to head to Best Buy shortly and handle a few of them.

Haven't played much, only 3 times so far. This past Saturday was our memorial golf outing for my uncle who passed away in Oct. 2010. I played with my 3 cousins (his kids) again and we shot 5 under. We use it to raise money to donate to charities. This year we donated the money to the Jimmy V foundation for cancer research. We raised around $3500 this year, which is about $1300 more than we did last year. Other than that I have played two 9 hole rounds. Have been hitting the ball pretty decent, but my putting has been horrible. Probably cost me about 6-7 shots a round. So instead of shooting in the mid 40s I am in the low 50s.

Lose what? Never mentioned anything other than the iPhone in my post.

Good to have you back!! Glad to hear all is going well, and congrats on the wedding.

Dang Steve, sorry to hear this. You are in my prayers.

You can't go wrong with an iPhone, I have had 2 of them and they have been great. If your not planning on using the features of a smartphone though, just get a regular phone. The plan will be cheaper as well. I am on a family plan with my parents through AT&T and the bill for our 2 phones is around $115 a month, $30 of that is for my unlimited data plan. $20 is for my unlimited text. The rest is for the talk minutes, we get 450 a month and what ever we don't use rolls over. Mobile to mobile, and nights and weekends are free, so we have over 3700 rollover minutes saved up. Some providers are better than others in certain areas. I'd check around and ask who has the best service in your area then check the plans for them.
