It looks like you do a great job doing inventory with your deer. I credit all of my success to trail cameras. Being able to pick out the deer you want, hunting that particular deer, and getting him is the biggest thrill in the world. Keep up the hard work. That non typical is such a stud. Great job and congrats.

I wouldn't cull them. You have the potential to grow some truly wild antlers. 6 point, 8 point, ten point... boooring. Who doesen't like trash n' junk? Those are young deer with potential to be once in a lifetime trophies. I passed on a little non-typ in 07 and sure enough a year later I saw him again and was 50" bigger.

Walked around Southern Saskatchewan for 3 days and found over 250 sheds, unbelievable.

doing a pedestal mount of him, should get him back in june

I am probably not even going to score this deer as he wouldn't score well, with not having any typical points really on the left side. Scoring is overrated anyway. And damn right cinch, best camera i have ever used. It's a heck of a camera and i wont buy anything other than moultrie cameras thats for sure. No flash, no dash.

Got a new taxidermist this year so hopefully he turns out good.

Keep in mind these mature bucks are 300 pound deer. The antler size gets a lot bigger when theyre in your hands.

This week ive had some really nice 5x5's come in in the 150-160 range, but this double dropper caught my attention. And a nice 160ish 5x5

The deer was very nocturnal, the only way he was coming in to my clearing was if a doe dragged him in, which is what happened. Also, yes, he had what looks like a bullet wound on the left underside of his neck, which some say will cause a deer to be non-typ. Best part about this deer is that i hunted this particular deer, and he had a story behind him. Now my wall will be behind him.

Here are some of the bucks in my area this year. All of these deer came into the same location in a span of 2 weeks. I was fortunate to take the non-typical. This is the second year i've used trailcameras, and they are totally invaluable to my hunt. I know what deer are coming into my blind, and can evaluate each deer, and get a close look at each deer and figure out which deer is "the deer." I was after the non-typ all year, and my persistence payed off. If you dont use trailcameras, you're missing out on a huge edge over the deer and lot of excitement. Enjoy the pics. And i was fortunate to take this non-typical Nov. 19

Wow, great pics, really nice.

In my opinion over 400 would be impossible. In extreme cases i'd say 380 max. Thats probably as big as they get. Here's a pic of my 07 buck, he was 370 field dressed. i could see a buck pushing 400 but hardly ever if at all.

Hunted from Nov.1 - Nov.19 And this buck came in every night to my blind, a true nocturnal buck. The rut kicked in and a doe brought him 15 yards from my blind. Not my biggest deer, but I hunted this particular deer through trailcameras, and a lot of time and effort, and a lot of freezing my butt off. Persistence pays off! Enjoy the pics.

alberta Alberta is good, but Saskatchewan is great!

Yeah, thats the thing. The ecology is very brittle there, so no atv's allowed. She's all walkin'. Most of the areas i look in are super steep banks that you couldn't ride a horse in let alone an atv. Excercise is never a bad thing. It's funny how your arms end up more tired than your legs from carryin em all.

Thanks guys, it's not that easy though. It's miles upon miles of 60 degree slope, cactus filled, rattlesnake infested rugged to say the least deer country. I went back this weekend (just got home a couple hours ago) and picked up around 140 more just today and yesterday. Therefore my honeyhole is prettymuch picked clean. I wont be able to go back to that hot spot for 2 or 3 years in order for the sheds to magically appear in the hills again. What a treat though, wow. I think its safe to say my shed hunting for the year is prettymuch done. Rattlesnakes and ticks have come out to play in the south and the bears are out and hungry in the north country. Im up well over 300 sheds for the year and its time to lay off the antlers and start gettin my bear bait together.

Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. Pass the maple syrup.

You betcha, gelled wood stain is the answer. I've cleaned up some heads from bleached straight white to dark chocolate brown perfectly.

Went out and found over 150 muley sheds on the weekend. Heres the pics. Goin out again this weekend to find another hundred or so, lol. I'm glad to call Saskatchewan my home. This trip was amazing and we didnt even scratch the surface of this area. Lots of sheds, but even better... permission to bowhunt here in the fall. Shed City, Saskatchewan. All sorted out, kind of. Unloading the truck BIG Single These two actually arent a set, pretty damn close tho. Thats half of two booner bucks. Young non-typical set. This deer could potenially be in the 200's. Two monster singles in the 80+ inch range.

This past weekend brought me to the Great Sandhills of southern Saskatchewan looking for mule deer sheds on a 14,000 acre cattle ranch. This ranch was untouched from shed hunters and deer hunters alike for the last 20 years. Along with my father and uncle, we found over 150 muley sheds! It was absolutely unbelievable. I will post pics within the next few days. I thought I'd tease you a little before I posted some amazing photos. You'll like em.'

Im from Saskatchewan and I like it that way. I'd be 6 feet under before I lived anywhere else.

I'd say around 185ish gross. Gotta love Saskatchewan!

Re: My 2006 Whitetail (pics) He weighed around 300 lbs, me and my brother in law rigged up a toboggan to pull him out of the bush. And yes his left side was a little bigger, seems like they all do in that area, even the muleys do, just genetics i guess.

Well heres a late post of my buck from this year, i have some awesome field pics, but the files are too big to load on realtree. Opening day, Nov. 20. Sat in my ground blind before daylight over my bait. (mix of peas, oats, barley) As I sat there patiently, suprisingly not a deer came in to feed when the sun rose. An hour after day break, i decided to try the rattling antlers. Rattled for about 10 seconds, put the horns down, grabbed my .243 Browning lever, and looked up. As i looked around the edge of the opening, out he came and he stood there... the hair on his back raised, looking for a fight. I looked him over for 1/2 a second, put the crosshairs on the vitals and boom. He dropped right in his tracks. After only one hour, i saw one deer. And at 168 gross, and 159 net, hes a dandy. Man I love Saskatchewan.
