  1. Re: Possible Record! Yeah, we hear the same thing every year. Personally, i live about 1 1/2 hours from Milo Hanson (The Hanson buck... world record) and i've met him a few times. Hes a great guy and is quite humble about his deer. Currently, he makes a living off of showcasing his deer, and hes a great guy. It's nice to say that the world record was taken close to home, but one day soon enough there will be a bigger buck taken. (sorry milo) I'm just ancious to see when, where and who its going to be that takes the deer. One of the first things Milo said to me about his deer was that it could happen to anyone; ha good luck guys.
  2. Re: Rutting in your neck of the woods? hot and heavy id say
  3. So it got to +13 here today, which is over 20 degrees above normal. What ever happened to hunting in late november with decent snow on the ground and bone chilling weather? Doesn't bother me really, i tagged out and the deer seemed to be moving normally despite the warmness, but wow, this is unbelievable.

  5. This morning i decide to take off to my area despite the warm weather. I took off from home at 6:00, and got to my area at 6:30, and sat in my usual hot spot well before sunrise. Within a half hour the sun rose. By that time i counted 5 different vehicles, and heard over a dozen gunshots. I thought to myself, this plan is simply not going to work. So i got back to my truck and drove in a roundabout fashion to another area in hopes of seeing some deer. By 8:00 i didnt see one deer. This was quite rediculous since usually by this time ive usually seen quite a few. But, considering my luck couldnt get any worse i chuckled to myself, turned on the radio and kept on truckin. A few minutes later i arrived at my other hot spot and sat down in my blind. As i just sat down and was in the process of putting my clip in my rifle i opened the front window of my blind. Heres a beauty, wide, 161 3/8 whitetail staring straight at me from 40 yards. How i didnt spook him getting in the blind i will never know. Shell in chamber, gun up, scope on him, bang, buck down. After green scoring he went 161 3/8 gross, and 159 2/8 net, and an impressive 20" spread of main beams and 22" greatest spread. The taxidermist has got some work to do, and pics are on the way; probly wont be real quick but i'll post em soon enough. Moral of the story, never take hunting too serious, and laugh at a situation if need be. Today i was unimpressed to say the least but my good fortune came. Just another good time in November.
  6. Re: trophy buck hunters Yeah, im 18, and have taken 6 deer. (4 whitetails and 2 muleys) I usually hold out on whitetails at about 150". All my whitetails that i have shot have been between 152" and 171" gross. In my area its not uncommon to see at least a 145 class deer in a full day of hunting; mainly because the majority of hunters have the same goals as myself. Its pretty neat and I am quite grateful I live where I live. Northern Saskatchewan rocks.
  7. Re: A couple of Bucks to watch(photos) nice
  8. Re: Antler Turning White Use a gel wood stain, and keep them out of the sun.
  9. Re: Sleeper Big Buck States??? States, what about provinces? It is well known that Sask and Ab. produce some of the finest bucks, and with a fraction of the hunters.
  10. I've read a ton of articles and heard a lot of stories on shed hunting dogs and how dogs can retrieve sheds. Through these stories, i have realized that most of the time it is a labrador retriever. Well, i had to do it. Now, I have a new black lab that is 5 weeks old. Hopefully with some training this will work out. Not to mention shes pretty cute. Just wondering if anyone has a dog that finds sheds. I have a pretty good feeling this could be some fun. Heres one link that sparked my intrest. http://www.northamericanwhitetail.com/huntingtactics/ht_0903sheds/
  11. Re: Farting in a deer stand......... A cover scent, and a grunt... once again your realtree tip of the week.
  12. Re: So What Are You Realistically Hoping For? Whitetail 170+ is realistic. Mulie 180+, but probably wont get drawn this year. Antelope, just lookin for a good time chasin down some speed goats.
  13. Re: My First Northern of the Season! They sure dont call em gators for nothin. Not much can beat a nice big northern.
  14. Re: P&Y - B&C scoring methods P&Y = Bow B&C = All heads (rifle, muzzleloader, bow, found)
  15. Re: While we are in the debating mood. haha, lablab in the forest... wow. Saskman, could you imagine if that stuff worked, and was used in the fringe. Whoof. But anyway, i picked up a magazine off the shelf just two days ago, and on the back of it there was a tecomate add simply stating "GROW BIGGER BUCKS". theres something totally wrong with this picture.
  16. Re: Why not feed the deer? Deer Rossman, Go get yourself some not-so-serious pills and settle down. Everyone has their opinions, sure. But don't come on the forum and start beaking thinking your're the king. These forums are for genuine sportsmen who just love the outdoors. Food plots are the new thing in hunting. It's the new craze. Now tell me a rational explanation of how food plots and "baiting" are different. Who sets out food plots and doesen't hunt over them? Not very many people at all. Who "baits" and doesn't hunt over bait. I do, a lot of us up north do. Last year when it was -50 C for a week i went out and set out a few bails and some grain. Heck, i probly kept a number of deer living. How could that be a bad thing? When the poll was up, it was about 50/50 for and against baiting. Okay, now what percentage of those who voted against baiting use food plots? That should give you something to think about. Thought i'd bring that up.
  17. Re: Why not feed the deer? bait (bät)- anything used to tempt or attract. Okay, now food plots are becoming quite popular and many hunters including some of yourselves hunt over food plots and it works quite well. Well, here in northern Saskatchewan, when we hunt deer in rifle season it's ooh, lets say -10°C, -20°C, and sometimes even -30°C. Try hunting over a food plot then... oh and its covered in at least a foot of snow. Not really the place or time for food plots, so we'll dump the odd pail of peas or oats near a ground blind or stand. It attracts a few deer, helps them survive a harsh winter, and so on. Now tell me what is wrong or illegal about that. Shed hunting this year i found 8 buck skulls. Most likely, all of these bucks have died as a result of limited food suply in a 6 month winter, which many times will drop to oh lets see... last years coldest mark in my area was -56° with windchill, thats not even on most thermometers, but its about -63°F. This issue spans much broader than hunting over bait and whether it should be considered illegal or not. All I have left to say is it isn't illegal, its conservation.
  18. Re: Moose Sheds By The Ton Thats unreal. One day in march i found 16 whiteys. It seemed like they were everywhere i looked. I thought that was shed hunting at it's best... i guess you prooved somebody wrong. lol congrats man.
  19. Re: Never ending deer story a wild boar and it...
  20. Re: I just got this email.... hold on to em. so what, you can make a couple $$ on an antler, but then you spend it and have nothing to show for all that walking. the antlers represent those times in the bush, and u dont want to let those memories go.- my opinion
  21. Re: how many....? Well this year i've found 64 ish, threw a few old ones in the flowerbeds, but around 64 or so... pic-> http://www.realtree.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5217&sort=2&cat=500&page=1
  22. Re: The Big One Well, the farmer has silage pits and usually grows peas, so the nutrition is awesome. That is why the monsters get dragged out of the area avery fall. At least 3 or 4 booners come out of his 1.5 sections of land every fall. The area is just amazing.
  23. Re: The Big One oh, and by the way, the G2 is 12'' and hes right around 20" wide, just to give you a better idea of the size, aw man i want this deer.
  24. Part I Well, in the spring of '04, my uncle bought a shed off of a farmer whose land is our hunting area. It scored 79 6/8. Unfortunately i dont have a pic of it, and he sold to another buyer. But the shed was a basic high and wide 5 point, with a 9 inch sticker off of the G3. Well we saw the buck last hunting season, we glassed him and realized it was the same buck. My dad and I put a stalk on him but unfortunately he gave us the slip and we never saw him again... until 2 weeks after hunting season, my dad and I went up with the videocamera too see some deer. Well there he was at 100 yards, and we got some awesome video. The buck is insanely huge, the same sticker, and has a 3" drop tine on the other antler. We figure he goes around 180 now. Part II Here i am in the middle of march looking for sheds, and what do i see... his shed, but from 03. Still absolutely amazing. It scored just over 75". This is the buck of my dreams and next year I will be after this one single deer. But anyway, heres the pic of the shed I found from him. http://www.realtree.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5244&sort=2&cat=500&page=1
  25. Re: Some shed photos from this year Congrats on the finds. That last one is HUGE! It's almost from your waist to the top of your head, wow. I wish I had more mulies in my area, its primarily whitetail, but hey i wont complain. Congrats
