  1. Re: What\'s your bag limit? 5 bearded birds spring season only in South Carolina. Three down, two to go till May 2
  2. Bostick is not far from where I live. And yes they got birds .
  3. Re: MOA on scopes A minute = 1/60 of one degree. 1 MOA = sin(1/60)*100yds*3ft/yd*12in/ft = 1.04in Input any distance for 100yds in the equation above to figure how much area 1 MOA will cover that far away or close for that matter.
  4. Re: tell me what to do about this... Never scratch a traditionally good area off your list unless something drastic has happened to the hunting area. Examples of this would be clearcutting, different crops nearby or Flooding of the strut zone. In my experience flooding of the roosting area usually makes it better. Turkeys seem to enjoy hearing their own poop hit the water. You must identify the roost zone, the feeding zone and the strut zone. If you only know two of the three areas your odds are still way better than if you just know one.
  5. Re: What new or old calls are you taking this spri Rule of thumb #1, have at least as many different calls available as you have decoys out!
  6. Re: Chalk up a Big Gobbler for Team Timber Shakers That's a hoss of a gobbler! That bird is gonna score high for sure with spurs like that! Body weight and beard length are outstanding as well. That is one heck of bird. Yep, those are good hooks, for sure.
  7. Re: Need Help!!...Striker I make my own calls. Strikers can be made easily from the discarded cutoffs from carbon arrows .
  8. Re: Son of Broadbeard The limit here is Five per season. I have two tags left. Honestly, it is unlikely I will fill either of them, but you never know These are supposedly eastern gobblers but as close as I am to Florida. (I am in the southeastern most corner of South Carolina) I am very suspicious these birds either have a little Osceola blood in them or are perhaps a new subspecies all together. Heaviest bird I ever killed here weighed 18lbs and had 1 3/8" spurs (so he was plenty old). Plus look at the darkness of the tail feather tips and wing tips. These aren't exactly like the birds I grew up hunting in Alabama. 19 and 20lb birds are common there. You be the judge.
  9. I am not kidding I really feel this way. God has blessed me with another truly incredible morning of turkey hunting. Turkeys started gobbling in earnest at 6:00am this morning. Long before sunup I was pretty excited. I could hear at least three different gobblers. Maybe it was the jakes I saw tuesday, maybe not. At 7:00am, old broadbeard showed up! Nope the winter hadn't done him in as I had feared. True to form he was on the opposite side of the field from me 120yds away. Too far for a picture. This time though while examining this bird through binoculars, I made an amazing discovery. Old broad beard has two beards!! The second though not as long is still close to 8 inches and the diameter of my little finger. He just wouldn't come in. He had a sole hen with him and bred her once while I was watching. Nope he ain't leaving that, no way. I stuck with my calling tactics and resisted the temptation to get more aggressive. This effort was rewarded with 12 hens entering on my side of the field. Along with two gobblers side by side! This coulda been a repeat of Tuesday and I legitimately and legally could have taken both gobblers. The shot was there again! I opted just try for the bigger of the two and when he stepped clear, wham at 25yds. Think that was an easy decision? I still feel it was the right one. This is Broadbeards son, no doubt about it. The picture speaks for itself. Five years of zero jake harvest is really paying dividends this year. For three years running the landowner has been in the NWTF Woodlands program. Folks this philosophy flat works. 1" Spurs 10 3/4" Beard 14lbs (obviously this guy had been running around abit!)
  10. Re: Made the local newspaper I lived in Birmingham and went to Auburn. Careful I used to play for them Spent alot of time fishing and duck hunting at Wheeler, Pickwick and Guntersville.
  11. Re: Where do you aim on the turkey? Pattern your gun, there are no shortcuts. You must determine where the center of your pattern is in relation to your shotgun bead. Any head neck shot is lethal. That's your target. You need to hold where your gun puts maximum number of pellets in the kill zone. Know your weapon and you will do well.
  12. Re: Successful Opening Day Nice!!! Gotta love the spring time show. Too bad Bama has the one bird a day limit. They have flat got the birds there! I cut my turkey huntin teeth in that state back in 1986
  13. Actually I do my Bear hunting in Canada and used to live in Alabama. Other than that good article. http://www.hamptoncountyguardian.com/articles/2005/03/16/hunting_and_fishing/15.txt
  14. Re: Season Opener Today: How to save on Turkey lo I was hunting within 12 miles of Estill The weapon I was using is a Browning BPS
  15. This morning was one of the mornings turkey hunting you dream about. It almost was a disaster but a hunch lead us to check the blind one more time before tomorrow morning. We drove out and it was gone!!! My chair was still there but the blind was missing. Normally we don't have anything to worry about with folks stealing stuff but I was starting to wonder. Looking a little harder around the area revealed a few of my stakes laying around. Then we put it together. The wind had gotten it and blown it 80 yds into the woods. It had blown hard enough to snap one of the nylon tie downs we had attached to a tree. Well the blind was still in good shape so we set it up again for the following morning. At 6:45am a truck drove down the dirt road near my blind. He was the owner of the adjoining land, so he had a right to be there. I thought to myself, this might be a long morning. 6:50am a lone hen came in from behind. Iexplicably spooked and flew off. That's turkey hunting. She must have passed gas and scared herself. 7:00am I hear one bird gobble. I call four jakes right into the decoys. We don't shoot jakes on this land so they were fun to watch for about 15 minutes. 7:15am a group of hens comes in (at least 10 maybe more). The jakes try to join the flock in vain. This action lasts 20min. The flock finally moves out. 7:30am I start reading a Dean Koontz book and settle in for a long wait. 8:00am BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS !!! GOBBLE GOBBLE! I put the bookmark in my half read chapter and snap a picture of this. Those two birds are both gobblers and they were almost twins. They switched off and on strutting while I tried to decide which one. In South Carolina the limit is two gobblers per day. The landowner the night before told me to kill two if I got a chance the next morning. Talk about putting pressure on a guy! I think the birds conspired to make the decision easy for me. This was obviously a gift from God. As they moved closer to me they also moved closer together. This is where knowing your gun's pattern is absolutely crucial. I knew mine and at 20yds the chance for taking both was evaporating. Just then one bird took a step towards me. This brought their noggins to where there was only 3inches of space separating them. I took the shot and two longbeards went to Fajita Heaven . One leadshot #4s 3 1/2inch 12ga and two birds. Not bad! One bird weighed 16lbs the other weighed 18lbs. Both had 10inch beards and 1 inch spurs. (yep twins). Old broadbeard never showed. He should have with a flock of hens that big. He may not have made it. Not that I have anything at all to complain about A reporter was at the check station. He took a picture of the birds and my homemade calls. I am gonna be in the paper Everyone at the check station said you better go out and buy a lottery ticket but I feel I probably used up all my luck today.

    One of my songs

I wrote it, I am playing the guitar and singing it. This was recorded about a year after my accident so the voice isn't as clear as I would like. I think you will be able to make out the words. Anyhow thought y'all would enjoy a good laugh. I played this for everyone at the Wilderness Lodge last year. It was well received. Let me know if you like it. The Food Chain

    Weird skull

Re: Weird skull I wonder if that animal could see out of that eye? I also wonder if that growth was covered with skin and hair when it was alive.
  22. Re: Keep GW in your prayers if you would.... Prayers Sent.
  23. Re: Illuminock? Just got one yesterday. Tried it out on the target in the back. No significant accuracy difference noted. Just another thing to have in your trick bag IMHO. In broad daylight there is no tracer effect and you won't see the light come on anyhow. Early morning and late afternoon these things will be worth it. Several times I wished I had had something just like this.
  24. Re: Metal string loop reviews Hard on the bow cables, they tend to slap them. Hard on the string itself, overtightening can damage the string. Plus they really torque that string hard on every shot. Hard on your release, they will flat eat up the jaws on a release. They are easy to install and remove. That's about it.

    Bow tech quality

Re: Bow tech quality Bowtech has earned a serious place in the bowhunting market because they deserve it.
