  1. I have a parker crossbow and absolutely love it. Very accurate out to 50 yards. For the money I don't think you can beat a parker.

    Broadheads?

After hearing about all the rage of the rage broadheads, I decided to try for myself. The are the 2 blade design, and I'm am totally impressed. It's leave's a hole like you've never seen. I've shot many different broadheads over the years, and this is the best performing head ever. I've seen post in the past that some rage heads won't stay closed. All you have to do is rotate the o-ring a little one way or the other and they stay closed.
  3. This is my first year using the rage's and man am I impressed. Shot a doe 10-20-07 and I watched it fall from the treestand. Got up to the deer and I have never seen a hole that big with a broadhead before. Best broadhead I've ever used.
  4. I noticed Kentucky was having 4 days of youth season, and 2 of those days free and I was wondering where some decent public land was? I live in Southwest Virginia and was looking at going somewhere in the eastern end of Kent. I'm looking to camp or rent a cottage. Also is any of the public areas 4-wheeler accessible? Also wondering about the terrain, as I don't won't to go to a place that is steep like West Va. It would be nice to see some elk too. Thanks for any input.
  5. Just wondering how the mast crop and apple crop was going to be in other areas. In my area the apple crop and acorn crop is going to be spotty due to a hard freeze in late April. I think this is going to be the year to get a 140" buck hopefully.
  6. Anyone ever used the Trophyline tree saddle? It looks versitale. Just wondering if it is comfortable enough to sit all day and what size trees can it be used in? How do you get up and down the tree with it?
  7. I'm not big on PSE, but a buddy of mine bought a PSE Mach x and that is the sweetest shooting bow I have ever shot. It is fast, quiet and very smooth. I would do like everyone else suggested, go to your local bow shop and try out a bunch.
  8. I've used regular targets and the bolt goes through the target. I've done some research on crossbow targets and what I can come up with so far is that you get hemmroids trying to pull the bolt out or the target doesn't last long. I would like something such as the block, put several people complained that they didn't last that long before the bolt was going through.
  9. Just wondering what kind of crossbow target (broadhead/ fieldpoint) is the best out there? Thanks for any input.
  10. Just wondering if anyone has tried the Rocket Recons? They look like the old pucket blood trailers, which I really liked. I'm thinking about getting some but don't know where to buy them.
  11. Re: My 7 year old kills his first turkey!! (Pics) When we got up that morning I looked at the thermometer and it was 20% with about an inch of snow. We hunted out of an ameristep blind, which made it a lot easier for him to move around and get on the bird. It had an 8 in. beard, 18.5 lbs. and 3/4" spurs. We roosted the birds the night before and had the bird on the ground by 7:30. Still a whole lot of luck with the way he was moving around.
  12. Re: Youth day score First turkey Congrats on a successfull hunt.
  13. Re: KY Youth Scores!!! (pic and vid) Congratulations on a great hunt.
  14. Re: 2007 Illinois youth hunt Congratulations to your boy.
  15. Re: My 7 year old kills his first turkey!! I posted the pictures in another post. I forgot to tell you he shot it with a rossi 20 ga. with 3" turkey mags. Needless to say I figured he would be sitting on his butt, but he was so excited he doesn't even remember it kicking. I let him practice with low powered shells and didn't tell him that he was shooting turkey loads. But it worked out real well.
  16. Here is a pic of my 7 year olds first turkey It weighed 18.5 lbs. 8 in. beard and 3/4 inch spurs. A good 2 year old bird.
  17. April 7 is youth day here in VA. Well last night I put the birds to bed with the wind blowing and colder than whiz. We got up this morning to 20% weather and the wind blowing. I woke my 7 year old boy up and ask him if he wanted to go ( I was hoping he would say no, and I could get back to bed). We went and got my brother and headed off to where I had roosted the birds. We were hunting out of a ground blind, which worked excellent. At daybreak even with the 20% the turkeys were gobblin big time. Before long they were on the ground and headed our way. Finally one of the gobblers was in range but instead of going to our decoys he circled on the other side of us. So here we go trying to get my 7 year old boy to the other side of the blind without scaring the turkey. Well he liked to have fell through the blind when he tripped over the chair. He got his gun out the window with the turkey at about 15 yards, with the turkey noticing that and becoming alert. Well he couldn't see the sight, so I had to raise the blind a little more. This really put the turkey on alert. I said to myself, If we pull this off we will be very lucky. He was shaking and moving and I told him when he got it on the turkey to pull the trigger. Some how he managed to kill the turkey. I guess the man upstairs was a looking down and smiling. Even though it was cold it was a perfect day with a happy ending. It don't happen to much like that in turkey hunting.

  21. My friend got him a new t/c omega and he is wondering what kind of bullets and what grains to get started? Just wondering what ya'll thought. Thanks for any input.
  22. Re: If antler restrictions work so well.......... Good point buckee. We had a 2.5 6 point on our hunting property this year that I tried to get culled out, but my brothers wouldn't shoot him. But the overall picture is good for Penn.. I wish Va. would move in the same direction. You wouldn't hear me complaining.
  23. One of these days I am considering purchasing a rifle scope, and was wondering if Leupold was the only American made scope these days. I like to buy American made products if possible to support our family's. Not the foreign countries.
  24. Re: If antler restrictions work so well.......... You all need to subscribe to North American Whitetail. They did a study in Texas to prove that "once a spike, always a spike" saying is not true. They tagged several 1.5 spikes ,or what you all are calling inferior, and several 1.5 8 points. At 3.5 The majority of spikes were smaller than the 8 point bucks. But at 4.5 the majority of the spikes caught up with the bigger bucks. I think with age and the right food any buck can be grown into a monster buck. The only draw back that is happening in my area is that when you have big bucks it is harder for the average joe to find a good place to hunt. It is getting so crazy in our area that people are willing to pay 2500 dollars for 80 acres of hunting land. And believe it or not people are purchasing cliffs for 7000 an acre. Thats the worst draw back on AR's.
