Re: whats the right age ??? I'd say 2.5 on both deer.

Re: whats the biggest deer you have ever shot Eleven point that scored 111" gross.

Re: If you were a judge sentencing poachers? I don't know what the answer is to poaching, but if you get to harsh you might make a bigger monster than you've already got. Besides its not like whitetails are an endangered species. Its just that it has gotten to be such a money racket. I'm afraid one of these days, that if you've not got plenty of money or land the only hunting that the average citizen will be doing is on public land. How many of you would like to take your kids or grand kids on public land with all the crazy's.

Re: going to give fixed blades a try!!! I switched last year from a mechanical to a 75 gr. muzzy. I wasn't getting the penetration I wanted with mechanicals. The muzzy's sure did the trick. Got a complete pass through on the only bow kill of the season.

Re: What is your biggest deer? 2 doe. Passed on several nice bucks, but didn't see the one I wanted to shoot.

Re: If you were a judge sentencing poachers? [ QUOTE ] Only problem I see with "hunting bans / no licences" is that these guys are poachers. It won't slow them down anyway. The law is only for honest people, and these characters don't appear to be that! [/ QUOTE ] I agree.

I recently read a post about some Iowans poaching a whole bunch of big bucks. If you were a judge sentencing these guys what would the sentence be. To me there is alot of worse things going on, such as drugs, stealing, and murders. Depending on how their rap sheet looked. If this was their first offense I would probably make them pick up trash along the roads for a couple of years, and fine them a couple of grand. What would you do if you were the judge?

Re: Iowa Resident Deer Poachers As a deer hunter it really pi$$es me off when people poach. But in reality there are alot worse things going on than poaching deer. What kind of sentence would you give these guys. I would make them pick up trash for a couple of years, fine them a couple grand and give them one h--- of a warning.

Re: OK...food plots...what to plant? I know alfalfa works for sure. Its the only thing we have ever planted so I don't know about anything else.

Re: what size do you shoot any thing that is at least 3.5 years old.

Re: once a spike allways a spike? Definately not true.

Re: Still No Rut Sounds like to me ya'll have a major doe over population. Or way to many bucks being harvested. Look at it like this, if you had women crawling all over you, would you be running around chasing the wind. Or would you stay where all the women are. When you have to many does, the bucks have all they can handle and don't have to come out of the bushes to chase.

Re: What do you like to see in a hunting video? I like to see them get a deer they have been after, that everyone is after, and they finally get it. More of a story than just a scene. I like to see them toughing it out. I don't know why but I like to see them hunting in Canada, and I don't like to see Texas hunts. I guess thats why I like to see Wildlife Outdoors so good. I got a free video from Tree Lounge and absolutly hate it. I like Realtree Roadtrips cause they tell a story, cut up and laugh, and go out and work hard to get a good deer.

Re: Drury Don't know exactly why, but I like " The Wild Outdoors".

Re: Ok the Omega it is, now which scope? Don't go for the cheap scopes, they will mess your eyes up. Burris, Leupold, Nikon all make good scopes.

Question about finding bullets in game???
smo replied to dogdoc's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: Question about finding bullets in game??? To my knowledge I can't ever recall having a complete pass through with a muzzleloader. I've never shot more than 110 grains of pyrodex either. -
Re: Rate the rut... Was the most active rut I have ever seen. Started the first week of Nov. and ended the 2nd week of Nov.. I think it was due to the fact that we have got the buck to doe ratio closer in the past couple of years.

My buddies and I have been using CVA powerbelt bullets for the past few seasons, and we are having penetration problems. I am using 295 gr. with 110 of powder. My buddy is using 245 gr. with 150 of powder. We are both experiencing that upon impact the bullet is scattering into a million pieces inside the body cavity and there is no exit, which makes for hard blood trailing. I have lost 2 deer and my buddy almost lost a nice 8 this year. All the deer were shot within 100 yards. The bullets are hollow points. I used to use Knights lead sabots. They would go in and never come out, but they held together good. I'm wanting to get a combination where I've got an exit wound so it will make for easier tracking jobs. Just wondering what your alls thoughts were.

Re: Huge deer taken somewhere in Kentucky That sounds more like it. I could'nt figure out why he was wearing light clothing hunting in Pa.

Re: I wish Va. would place a four point rule! Maybe the state of Va. ought to do as they did a few years back. They used to tranquilize big bucks on military bases and distribute them to different areas in the state.

Re: I wish Va. would place a four point rule! Not every county would have to have these regulations.Just the ones VDGIF would see fit. I guess I should re-phrase that to Grayson County, VA. I guarantee you if you could hunt our property, you would be wanting to lease it out. I was like Ore at first. A cattle rancher from N.C starting managing about 1000 acres of land that joins ours. When he first came up here, he started hammering on us to let the little ones walk. Of coarse our club totally disagreed, until we started seeing and shooting the big boys also. Deer management just takes time and is a little harder to swallow for some people. The flip side is that I've also lost alot of hunting ground because of the bigger bucks.
