  3. Re: First time saltwater fishin a success(pics) yeah, we kept the bonitos, but the captain used the meat for bait. the cobia was only 25 lbs., and we spotted a few more of them in the same area, they just werent hungry. btw the pompano were 38 and 34 lbs. respectively

  5. so last friday me and my buddy went on our first saltwater fishing excursion, and, to say the least, it was a BLAST!!! we did a half day, 6 hour trip and had non stop action the entire time. i was so used to pullin in 2 and 3 lb bass back home that the first fish i caught, a 10 lb. bonita, was unreal. we were targeting cobia in about 70 ft of water over a ship wreck. our captain had us usin light tackle so as to get a better fight since it was our first time and all, and my wrist was done after about 5 fish. we only ended up cathin 1 cobia, but the real treat was these 2 big African Pompano, or Permit, that took about 20 minutes each to get in the boat. captain said he hadnt seen one in 5 years in the daytona area, and we landed 2 of them in one day!!!! it was an absolute blast and i am now hooked on saltwater fishin. o yeah, and here r some pics the first is all the fish we caught and the second is my buddy doug on the left and myself on the right with our Pompano.
  6. Re: TURKEY TEAM #24 [ QUOTE ] Aww man I just want to forget that ... Okay here is the story one more time. I set up on this bird and he was gobbling good, then for an hour nothing. My set up was not the best due to a small tree just to my left. This bird came sneeking in from my left. As he went behind a tree I had to move my gun around this tree. In doing so I also had to lean back and to the left. This put the stock of my gun off my shoulder. I shoot a Super X-2 with a scope and the Nirto loads. First shot cut my fore head, the second broke my nose. I killed this bird 4 days later. And he had 1.50" spurs. [/ QUOTE ] i dunno whether to laugh or feel bad.....either way thats a heck of a story and those r somne MONSTER hooks
  7. Re: TURKEY TEAM #24 here is my big gobbler from '05 jake i took from '06
  8. Re: TURKEY TEAM #24 [ QUOTE ] Yeah we see them out all the time, alone, in the afternoons --- but we can only hunt from dawn til noon during the spring season... Otherwise I woulda just set up in a feeding area (which I still may try) and wait like hunting for deer... [/ QUOTE ] when they arent breakin up till late in the afternoon i usually just try and pattern them like huntin fall birds. find out where they r flyin down after the roost, usually to a strut zone or feeding area, and just try and intercept them. the hens will usually take them away if u do much callin so just sit and wait for em and see what happens. i tooke a bird using this strategy a few years back when they would not come to ne calls. another strategy would be to try and use a jake call or a kee-kee run if ur dealing witha mature, dominant gobbler. if he knows there is a young jake in the are, **** break from the hens and come stormin in to investigate. just my 2 cents, good luck to ya buck, as well as the rest of the team
