Headed North to Manitoba...
stevebeilgard replied to Tim Andrus's topic in The Realtree Pro Staff Room
sometimes good planning and stamina is no match for the weather. better luck next time. -
the sad part is, no thawing for 5-6 months. what a mess. global warming at it's finest

let's not forget who our "news media" is. they are the liberals, who hate america. they put every slant possible on the bad guy while leaving out the facts and truth. NOT ONE of the common news media, abc nbc cbs msnbc, not one of them are reporting the autopsy facts and what the grand jury saw to come up with the verdict. this is the very same "news" sources who have never once told america about the gruber tapes. yep, gruber was correct. the liberals depend on stupid voters.

wow. now that is just special enough to miss hunting. tell him congrats for me

a moonlit night means the animals will graze all night and go to bed an hour or 2 before sunup. i just went through it again with last weeks elk.

it's in wyoming. it's below zero for the 3rd day in a row. denver is setting all time lows for days and maybe even the month. c'mon out and enjoy!

i'd sure check out the protocol for that hunt area. that said, you found your own sweet spot. getting a nice deer in your spot will be better than in someone else's.
-
i do only spot & stalk hunting. so, i use no scents and different hunting methods
-
way to go, marty. were you on dan's ranch? i saw lots of very nice deer this year.
-
i have a 54" shiras moose, but that's it.
-
great pictures and story, jeff. i saw lots of nice deer on the ranch you were on. just sayin. hey, one part of the story i'm concerned about is where the other hunters (you heard shots all around so i'm assuming lots of hunters in the area) were 20 feet from you and did not see you. were you wearing orange? goodness, i'd wear enough orange to look like a chirstmas tree in the dark.

i have the best of both worlds. i take kids hunting and i feel the same rush when they shoot, as when i shot. same with fishing. i run the boat and connie (and guests) bring in all the fish. i actually get the same rush. so, everyone, maybe get involved with the kid groups, wounded warriors, etc and see how that works for you.

whoa. don't mess with those waves. go back to ashland, have a pizza pub (say hi to shaun) pizza and a beer, get a motel room and stay alive. the pizza pub in ashland has pizza dough/sauce that is almost as good as what connie has. almost. she's going to start selling mixes on ebay in a week or 2.

well, my 4 day elk hunt, which takes generally one hour to all day, took 5 days. we had a great time, saw lots of country, but it was 45 degrees at night, a clear full moon, and 70 degree days. guys, the elk were feeding all night and in their beds by daybreak. that means walking draw after draw all day long, hoping we see them before they see us. yet, we did have luck each day. in fact, 12 rounds total were fired a big bulls. the poor kid was excited and he continued to hit low left. "you're jerking the trigger", i keps saying. each day we had reasonable shots, but no blood. on day 5, we had 2 early morning shots then had to leave by 9am, with an unfilled tag. as we were headed out he asked if he could shoot a cow elk for meat, and i said fine. 30 seconds later we turn left on a ranch road and there were 8 cows and a spike bull. i told him the bull would be the best eating, as it's bigger than the cows and only 2 1/2 years old. prime eating. 2 shots later he had 2 bullets 8" apart, right in the bread basket. he now knows it wasen't the gun off, it was him jerking the trigger. anyway, a very exciting hunt with a great kid. if anyone is interested, it's www.catchadream.org who brings these kids out. i also got 1/2 the meat. yee haw

great post and a fine tribute. i wish america would do the same. too many liberals (aka democrats, socialists, progressives, etc) here now. but, we did just have a rather encouraging change of the guard here. now to get rid of the president inpersonator.

i think all elected officials should have a military past

i didn't even know they had rowing in wisconsin. i thought it was called trolling. lol. anyway, i've never seen a match. but, i'm pretty well convinced that you don't want to show her these pictures. she might give you a right hook, and it looks like it will hurt. lol

i actually had a hunter come on a $3000 deer/antelope hunt with a new gun in the box and a new scope in the box. he was going to put it together and go hunting. not with me, i said, and made him buy a box of shells for my gun and shoot them all before we even went out. he was actually a good shot, but holy cow....

had a great trip starting last monday. all well on the ferry, then a good drive the first day, second day, and third day. beautiful weather and truck running fine. we thought we'd stop off in buffalo, wyoming, to see an old friend. we're 70 miles from gillette. hit the cruise before the exit and glided down off the interstate and onto the lane into buffalo. put on the gas, and nothing. turns out i blew my transfer case. there's 2 grand down the drain. we spent 2 days in a motel, then found the parts were not going to work. so, i called a friend in gillette and we were rescued. we're now in gillette and have a catch a dream hunter coming in tomarrow for his elk. i'll hopefully be posting pictures on wednesday or thursday. so far, i'm 100% on 6 x 6 or larger bulls. but we'll see. a few prayers are always welcome. luckily, a rancher friend of mine gave me one of his fleet to hunt out of for the week. it's a nice dodge mega cab diesel, and ready to hunt. on a great note on this same subject: my daughter posted on our church web site last night about my prediciment with no truck and a catch a dream kid coming. by 7 this morning we had over a dozen trucks offered. both the dodge and ford dealers in town told me to come down and take my pick. 3 others made a donation to catch a dream, the ford dealer filled up my truck, and others are in line to buy a tank of diesel. America is still great!

72 in wyoming today. not all that unusual, though

those changes are a waste of time.

it's been quite a nice summer up in alaska. lots of fishing, crab and shrimp. now, it's about time to load the 2 freezers and head to wyoming for the winter. we leave oct. 27 and arrive in gillette on oct 31. just in time for the trick or treaters. i think this year i'll heat up the deep fat fryer and have the kids bob for doughnuts. lol. we actually do love to see all the kids. and, i'll be happy to get off of dialup.
