Good luck to him Jeff. Let us know how he does and post some fotos. See ya in the fall...

Cool thanks for the stats Steve. Am looking forward to one bull for wife or I this yr. She's got time off in Nov to hunt that she cant get in Oct so maybe hunting in 3rd rifle will help all our successes. The weather is milding some here so I hope Mar 23 when we go to 55 to scout I can get up some in the mtns. We're taking the ATC and two bikes we just got so am really hoping some of the snows gone. I just read this article in Rocky mtn Game & Fish, it said 'hunt elk early and mule deer late'. I may try that in 2009 to improve my 99% unsuccess ratio.
-
Just made reservations to go scout March 24-25. Will take the ATC along and try to get up in the mtns if snow is mostly gone to look things over. Hope to get fotos too.

Still waiting on the appointment to the specialists so they can camera both ends of me. ROFL.

Tag draws...I hate em. Too used to the old PA system of just buying tags OTC. Oh well, the new west is all about $$$. I just applied for ours for here, 205.00 . But its my only bad habit, other than work.
-
Me too, I gotta figger out which half the week I am off that weeknd. I only work 3 or 4 12hr days a week now, and am off the rest. But by Sept 6 not sure which half I'll be on. Or off. I like off best. My three favorite things at work are ... 'relief days' 'time coming' and 'early quit' . I guess I dont have a very 'corporate' attitude at this late stage of the game. Add now that I too am facing a Buckeeproblem it seems like only thing on my mind is hunting season. I gotta go, today is the day we apply for online tags...

Nice looking outfit Luke, good luck with it. See ya's in September.

Yes. Unit 55 runs between the Great Divide and east/north of the hwy to CB. Also all north of hwy 50 between Monarch Pass and Gunnison.

That pic dont do it justice. The rack is a LOT bigger than the foto makes it look, and so is Kyle Lopez. -
Yes I am big Eastmans fan. I have the latest mag but hadnt read it yet due to spending time working on my taxes. I did look over the Lopez buck story but thats it so far. Thanks.

I've got a LOT of time off now since I am working a new schedule, which should continue for a long time to come. Am thinking on a fall r.i.f.l.e. Wyohunt, long weeknd type of deal, DIY, public land, etc. Any suggestions for a buck antelope and then a mulie buck hunt within drive from Denver??? I 'll have 4 days off at a time so...

I've been hunting 2nd rifle for 6 yrs now with little or no luck. Most times its the October heat that causes us probs. That and the dang coyotoes and the full moon. My wife is really pressuring me to apply for 3rd rifle tags for us, Nov 1-7 I think it is this yr. She can get more time off work then than in October, my dau isnt coming to COlo this yr to hunt, and the two week diff later in yr may make it better for us, tho we may get into more snowish situations. So I am seriously considering third rifle in unit 55. SteveB sent me a map of his adventures in 2006 when we all met up in Taylor Park and I think this will help us out. Plus he has some suggestions as to where to camp a lil closer to Gunnison and hunt in some places some of you havent been. Your thoughts on a 3rd rifle elk camp meet up???

Local buck 303 5/8 by a teen. I thought I had a previous post here on this but I guess not. Anyway, we met and talked to Kyle Lopez at the ISE SHow in Denver. He's a nice young man. Proud too. And wow what a buck. Today when I got home I see my new Eastman's Hunting Journal with my weekly mail. He is on the cover of the magazine!!! I just think that's so cool. I hadn't read the article on his buck yet, but did scan thru the mag and theres just a ton of Coolerado DIY hunt articles in it this month. I may have to buy a new pipe and some Capt. Black and read slow to enjoy it all. Mulder says 'the truth is out there', Silvertip says 'the big trophy DIY mulies are out there'. Good luck all this fall.

silvertip_co replied to silvertip_co's topic in Big Game & Exotics
I just got my books in the mail too so they are available also. Chinamarts or your sporting goods store will have tons of them or you can send to DOW for the hard copy. Previous tag holders get one mailed to them , as I did. Good luck all. -
Lotsa good suggestions, whadja buy?

I checked to be sure and was told the 15' of snow in Gunnison valley should be melted and gone by 1st of September so we can plan to hunt 2nd or 3rd rifle. 3rd might be better as they said it would be warmer than -33f then too. Here's more info: http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/BigGame/

Wow, you guys really play hardball. OK, OK, but the camper wasn't as warm as you think. The furnace kept kicking off every hour and I had to keep waking up Erica :Dto get her to reset it. What a pain. Thanks for posting the two pics. It was such a good time. Hope we can repeat this coming fall.

Yesterday's Rocky Mtn News said that Cabela's said no plans to start the store building in 2008 or 2009. They need to just forget Denver and build it in Pueblo West and get that store UP.

2008 COLO BIG GAME BROCHURE is here
silvertip_co replied to silvertip_co's topic in Big Game & Exotics
Boss just did changed our work times to 12 hour days. So I'll only be at work in Denver 1/2 of every month. Thats like 50% more time at home in Pueblo. And I can give up my city apartment and look for smaller digs since I'll only be here 10 nights a month. My relief days are now Sun- Wed this coming week and Sun-Thurs the next week, alternating back and forth weekly. More time off is wayyy better than a raise. Let's go kill somethin... -
...sounds like Brokeback Bowhunters to me !!! ROFLMAO :D:D
