  1. That was plan A. But ol dad here screwed up :eek:the group tag applications for Dawn, Erica, and her hubby so I was the only one that drew a tag...and it was a doe tag. The big guy is still there with 4 others I saw on Saturday. Annnnd tag applications season is only a scant 4 months away. By then the family ought to be talking to me again;).
  2. Not really, I had $12000 worth of fun, exercise, sweat, cold, tired, and mud. So thats only 50 cents a pound in my book. Good luck to you also.
  3. I dropped off a doe at a different place in Gunnison on Saturday. While there I overheard several hunters talking to the deer cutter about the place you took your meat to get cut. Sounded like shorting hunters and having leftover meat intheir freezers was pretty common for that outfit. Sorry that happened to you. I only hope the pllace I took mine in North Gunnison is the real deal and I get all my meagre meat.
  4. After 6 years, $6000, & 600 hours of hard hunting I have finally killed a deer here in Colorado on Saturday. I guess my coyote last yr was my first real Colo kill. Anyway, first I missed a doe at 600 yards ( shot under due to using wrong BDC circle) when I got here to Gunnison, then the second one I missed at 150 yrds steep downhill(I shot over of course:rolleyes:). The third shot I got a nice fat mulie doe, so the freezer will be part filled (FINALLY ). Will post pic link to hunt101.com photos next week when I get home. Now I am off to seek the bull elk I so richly deserve ...
  5. Cool pix. What unit were you hunting? Looks like you had a great time.
  6. Good job, nice elks. The camp fotos remind me of the Great Realtree Colo Elk Hunt. Thanks for posting.
  7. ....a couple pics from our hunt. We didnt take many as we was HUNTIN http://good-times.webshots.com/album/561093934wWUMls
  8. We had a great time. Seen a doe and three coyotes on Sat. Seen 9" snow on Sun. On Mon afternoon I put the lad on a 6x6 and two other bulls and 40( yeah he counted em) cow elk. In Spite of his rifle being finely tuned at the range a f ew weeks before 'buck fever' caused him to miss the same cow three times. But he gave it his best. And we found a great new secret elk haven. It was a great hunt with a nice young man. Also found 6 mulie bucks runniong together. We'll save them for next yr.
  9. I got the truck all loaded up for Sat Sun Mon. Am looking forward to backpacking some meat out or using BigRed to skid a elk out for the boy.
  10. Oh I dont mind more wildlife and less sheeple. Hate to see the campers get et tho, they drop a lot of cash in the mtn town stores and trinket shops.
  11. Nice sheep he got. I dont understand the BP rifle thing tho, dont these tv heroes hunt with real rifles? I figger when I see a woman drivin a pickup and a man looking out the window that he's got too many dui's. Same thing with BP, all these tv guys shoot BP cause they aint allowed to own real guns. ROFL
  12. not THAT makes me homesick for ncPA
  13. Looks like unit 45 or 46. Great story and even better fotos. COngrats.
  14. http://members.tripod.com/~elkhunter2/ and take lots of pictures to post here. Good luck.
  15. We had a great time finding Wolcott Colo and meeting the teen and him mom. He's a great guy and a good shooter. His Win 70 308 was off a foot to the left so the trip was worth it to sight in, he dont want to be missing any elk. He wants to be a full time guide as he lives near Piney Valley Ranch and has met Tred Barta and Dan Harrison numerous times. I cant wait til Oct 13 to get in them hills again. October is a wonderful rifle kinda month.
  16. Let me be the first to say thanx for posting your story and fotos. Makes me homesick for my mountains and elk camp. Looks like ya had a great time.
  17. Since Elkatraz4 seems to be dead for lack of interest and there's no Realtree Colo Elk hunt this year, and next fall's RT Hunt is for stickthrowers, I decided I would take a kid R.I.F.L.E. hunting. He's 8th grade, big successful mulie hunter with his mom. But mom's afraid of takin him cow elk hunting. (elk too big maybe?)So I volunteered to do it. Gonna help him sight in so he dont miss, then I took a weekend off to hunt with him in his season. Figgered it was a good way to scout for my OTC bull while I was out there. If nothin else it'll get me in some kind of shape for our own elk and mulie hunts the following two weeks. Gee maybe after I guide him and guide my wife to her mulie I'll apply for a CO guide license and retire into oblivion .
  18. Independence Pass, Colorado. The DOW spent 6 weeks this spring trying to confirm three grizzlers that were sighted there. They didnt find the grizz ( I BET they went south to the super remote Grizzly Gulch). Now they are investigating wof sighting. And a good one: http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20070915/NEWS/70914048 Philosophically speaking ... if all this great and dangerous wildife is moving back into Colorado, does that mean the Kalifornicans are moving out and taking their money and p.poor driving skills with them???
  19. Cool deal. GOod luck hunting. Sounds like you are havin fun.
