  1. Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread [ QUOTE ] BTW...33 or not...I felt a heck of alot older climbing that mountain. One of those things that I got to expericence...with or without an elk...I'll never forget that hike up there! [/ QUOTE ] Hands down, you and Steve B win the hero of the RT Camp award for your 3000' climb up and luck skiddin the elk down to the road...
  2. Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread I've only been gone from 'CAMP RT' one week and I miss my new friends already. Hope y'alls are well...
  3. Re: Jim Shockey?? I like Shockey, and the guy with the long name, and Dave Watson(whrever he is???). They all three seem 'real', tho I have only me Watson.
  4. Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread I didnt mention a special thanks to Steve Beilgaard for his knowledege, expertise, and wisdom as to where and how to hunt, and where to hunt next. I hear hes a greeat cook too. I ended up with the RT CAMP signs so I'll try to use them to honor the memory of a great hunt. WHen we moved camp to the nose-bowl are we used the signs to block the hich winds and keep the ol camp warmer. Good gosh we overcame a stuck boulder, altitude, deep snow, rough roads, a broken furnace, a frozen terlet, knee deep mud, my wifes rifle scope broke on at a critical time, and her radio batteries went dead just when we needed to talk to her. But WOW what a hunt!!!
  5. Re: \"Official\" Post Colorado Trip Thread Great fotos all, much nicer than my own which I will post on Fri when I get back home. The nite foots of Greg's bull being unloaded and tagged and hung vcame out great. Tho we didnt score any venison we did see some awesome sights and meet some great new friends. And Luke the VT Maple Syrup is great, thanks ever so much. Thanks also to RT and Scott Hughes for the box of perks he allowed us all to share. Gotta luv them Marketing guys. And thanks again to Buckee for the fish supper at the Islamorada Restaurant in Denver. Wife and I took Erica there last eve for an elk steak supper, cheap it wasnt but yum it sho was gooood. And wow them PA boys is something else. Drive 30 hours, come down Cottonwood Pass in a snowstorm at night dragging a trailer, and then get up the next evening and kill a great big bull elk. Makes me wish I was 25 again. Greg and Puddn are the best. We moved camp to a now top secret area elk/deer area near Gunnison suggested by Houston Jeff ( the "nose-bowl" we call the place). We didnt see but 24 elk on Fri morn ( and nooo whiteman feetsprints inthe snow) and couldnt sneak up on a bull in the bowl, BUUUUT we did see well over 200 mule deer in two days and some good bucks, a great buck, an awesome buck, and one total Realtree Monster Buck. My dau is already planning to put in for draw mulie tags for 55 next year. The huge buck is hers as she saw it first, wife saw the next larger one so that will be hers, and I'll have to settle for a 170 class buck that has his home just over the hill from the nose-bowl. Them deer will all be there for us next fall as the hunters in the area dont get off their ATV's to look for game. We hiked one eve up to 10200 at the top of the nose-bowl and enjoyed a spectacular sunset. Its too bad my Handycam we deemd too heavy for my backpack or I could show some awesome mulie fotos and sunset fotos. What a trip... and what a nice bunch of new friends.
  6. Re: REALTREE COLO ELK HUNT STUFF Creek baths only, when the rangers aint lookin ROFLMAO
  7. Re: **THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT (& related links I have tv and an antenna on the camper. Local channels only tho. I try not to do electronics when I go hunting.

  9. Re: elk hunt update Cool beans
  10. Re: **THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT (& related links) I just talked to a guy that works for me and he is a veteran of Taylor Park area. He keeps his camper there alla time. He goes there a LOT. He saw moose just east of where my camper is parked recently. SO...make sure when you have an elk in your crosshairs that it's really an E.L.K. Mistakes in Colo are very expensive.
  11. Re: **THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT (& related links) Sorry the map link didnt work but the coordinates are good. Here are the first fotos from my trip to set up the camper yesterday: http://good-times.webshots.com/album/554811388xKAjwS Notes for those attending: 1. The camper is set up 3.8 miles off of the Taylor Park Road. It's on the right of the road on a bluff overlooking the Texas Creek and is easy to find as you'll see from the fotos. Lots of room on two levels for more campers. 2. From Buena Vista it's 35.8 miles to the camper. obviously 32 miles to Taykor Park. The PAVED road up the east side of the Divide from Buena Vista to Cottonwood Pass is VERY good in spite of recent snows. The DIRT road on the west side of the Divide from Cottonwood Pass to Taylor Park is almost very good. Wet, slippery mud, and a few bumps. Uphill is low gear with your camper, downhill to Taylor is 2nd gear. Lotsa curves goin down on the dirt side. When you get to the bottom turn right and then go about 1/2 mile to the Texas Creek sign then turn right again. 3. The road from Taylor Park in to Texas Creek is pretty rough and rocky and my 19' camper dragged it's back end a lot. Go slow so you dont tear up your equipment. I hope you enjoy the fotos and find the place ok. My dau and I will be there Fri late morn the 20th, we will have the cb on channel 12 in my Dodge truck and the FMRS radio (your hunting radios) on channel 12 also to listen for those needing info. We'll be tinkering on the camper and moving our stuff in so holler twice. Good luck to all.

  15. Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT (Part II) Not a campground. Its BLM/NF Lands, free camping. Heat water and wash in a tub type of camping. If you wear two layers of long underwear the odor cant get out. Or jump in the lakes there, it cant be that cold if theres no ice on them. Good luck and hope to see you there... [ QUOTE ] I got a few questions as well. Is this place where we are camping...is it like a camp ground that has showers or bathrooms. I can't imagine trying to stay scent free without a shower for over a week. Just wondering! [/ QUOTE ]

  24. I have and RFW antelope doe tag for Sept 20-24. I need a spotter. Any volunteers? ( unfortunately this is Elkatraz week too, so I'll be there 15-19 and then off to Westcliffe CO for 1-4 days on the antelope ranch hunt. With a spotter I have a better chance of gettin er done and haulingas back to E3. )
  25. Re: ****RT ELK HUNT Colorado MAPS**** Steve in looking at your map, the dot seems further in than Dawn and I were. I am concerned about gettign my 19' trailer in that far, as the place we turned around the trail was pretty rugged. Can you give us some cooordinates so I can have a satellite look at it???
