Went hunting last night with my Dad and we split up, I took the bottom of the woods my Dad had the top part. We’re just hunting from the ground for now until we get some climbers set up. So my spot is right between 2 trees and I face a strip of grass that the deer usually come up. It’s only maybe 10 yards wide and then on its other side is a strip of woods and then field. The first night I was here a Doe and 2 fawns came right by maybe 15 yards. I had a Perfect Broadside shot at the one fawn, a Button Buck, but I held off. They never knew I was there either, so I was hidden well I thought. Saturday my Dad saw a Doe and 2 little fawns in the field he watches and he said the Doe had some white spots on her. I would have liked to have seen her, but she didn’t come my way so no. Be careful of what you wish for!
It was getting late but still light enough to see out a ways. That’s when I heard the sticks breaking behind me. I could see some deer moving along a hill back there so with my hand on the bow I turned to watch. They were walking the hill straight for my Dad and about 50 yards from me. I didn’t know what they were but since it was more then one it was probably Does. Seeing that they weren’t coming my way I didn’t turn my bow around for a shot, this way I wouldn’t spook them. Next I know sticks are breaking, leaves are being crushed and fast movement is coming my way. I see one dodge right then another left, and some big trees were blocking my view but they were headed straight for me! I was froze there watching and then… Double the space between you and your computer screen… Right there a Doe stopped dead in her tracks, low to the ground, I couldn’t even see her head just most of her back which was speckled with white. Then a couple yards behind her a fawn stops, another few yards behind it her other fawn halts. A few seconds pass and she blows and busts out of there! They ran back towards where they came from blowing and stomping at me, they finally disappeared to somewhere. But omg I could have tackled her! I’m still trying to figure if I moved, or she smelled me, or possibly heard my heart beating! I was freaked out, I mean geez to have that big Doe and fawns flying right to me and then stop. Whether they were playing with each other I don’t know but I didn’t want to join in!
That's RealTree Camo for you! LOL!
