Re: Splake from my christmas break Wow that's some cold looking fishing there! Nice bunch of fish! Good job! Eric

Re: Time to catfish Thanks guys! Our favorite bait is fresh shad or alwives. We take a cast net and catch our bait so it's fresh. We will use whole shad if they are up to 8" long or cut the big bait up. Also some of the guys around here use eels. Livers and stuff will catch them too but mostly smaller fish. The big cats want big chunks of fresh fish! It's a blast even when it's cold. When your fighting a big cat you forget how cold it is outside. Plus we take a Coleman propane heater with us. That helps out! Eric

Here are a few bass I've caught at the property I call Paradise. I'm as hardcore about bass fishing as I am hunting. I'm surprised my wife puts up with me! Eric

Re: My 2003 piebald doe Mudrunner, I'm not sure exactly but what I've always heard is because of inbreeding when you have too many deer. We have that problem. Way too many does. Eric

I know it Winter time but this is the time to catch the BIG cats on the James River where I live. A couple weeks ago a guide caught one 83+ lbs. (Blue Cat) another guy caught one 75lbs. Last year my neighbor and I went out on a very cold January day and caught around 30 cats with these 2 being the biggest. The first one my neighbor has is a 18lber and the one I have is only 17lbs. He caught one a month earlier that weighed 44lbs. and last summer caught his biggest that weighed 62lbs. Richard and my next door neighbor went out a few weeks ago and caught one 47lbs. I'm really itching to go! I have gone since this picture was taken last Jan. Might try this weekend after we duck hunt. Eric

Here is a pic of a piebald deer I shot last year with my T/C Omega. I was walking up to look down a powerline when this deer caught my eye at a little over 100 yards. At first I thought it was a trash bag in the woods. When I glassed her I thought it was a goat. Then realized it was a deer. I crawled to within 80-90 yards of her and dropped her with one shot. I had the hide tanned and have it hanging at the house. It was a pretty neat deer. I shot another one last year too but not as white as this one. Eric

Re: My 2004 buck (pic) Thanks for all the congrats guys! I'm pretty happy with him. I have one more spot on the wall left for him. My wife didn't think he was big enough but I told her too bad because he has alot of character. He has 17 points you can hang a ring on. Most around his bases and browtines. Those points range from 1/2" to 2 1/2". He has 11 scorable points. I'm fairly new to the site and have enjoyed it so far. I hang out at Kisky a lot. Nice to meet everyone and thanks again! Eric

One of the places I hunt is 540 acres and it's an old gravel pit next to a river. It has 9 good sized ponds on it. I also do a lot of fishing there too. Well the landowners brother was down there fishing from the bank of one pond while I was duck hunting on the river. He was fishing for crappie with a crappie jig on 6 lb. line and caught a bass that measured over 24" and weighed near 9 lbs. Very nice fish! My biggest bass was caught there too in June a couple years ago and was 25" and weighed 8lbs. His biggest is 10.75lbs down there. It's a sportmans paradise there and that's what I call the place... Paradise! I might put my boat in the water after I duck hunt this Saturday! Eric

Re: Fish? What part of the Rap did yall catch the fish? If you were past the 360 bridge the water gets salty (closer to the ocean) and it could have been a Croaker. (Saltwater fish) What did you catch it on? A Croaker is kinda shiny with a purplish/pink color to it and sometimes has little black spots on it. Looks similar to a puppie drum. I bet that's what it was. Eric

My brother and I and a couple guys went to a place I fish and deer hunt and limited out on Woodies. (2 per day) My brother got one that had 2 bands. One of them was a $100 reward band. Pretty cool. They finally gave him the info on the bird and it was released Aug. 30th from somewhere in Maine. He hasn't received his $100 yet though. It's his first banded duck. I've only been duck hunting for the last couple years (rookie) and haven't got one yet. We will hunt every Saturday from here on till Jan 29th. Would be cool to get another band! Eric

Re: Buck Fever Everyone gets buck fever when they see a good buck... it's how you overcome it to make a good shot. It will come from experience and confidence. If I knew back when I was a teenager what I know now I would have a few more deer on the wall! I would say to keep practicing shooting your gun. Try to imagine that big buck as the target and make a good shot. The more times you make that good shot the more confident you will be at the moment of truth. Also like others said... once you know he's a shooter buck just focus on his front shoulder and where you are going to place the shot. Looking at the horns can mess you up. Believe me looking at horns cost me a great drop tine buck when I was 12. Good luck to you and I hope you get that monster!! Eric

Re: Pat Reeves I too have a Mathews Feathermax and had the top limb break on me once. I had it replaced under warrenty with no problems. It wasn't long after that that I would notice a cracking noise (not real loud) in the limb pocket. I had it greased and that helped for a little while but it's doing it again. It only does it the first time I draw so everytime I get in my stand I draw my bow first thing and it's good after that. Great shooting bow! Eric

Re: Rate the rut... In my part of VA it was decent. I saw small bucks chasing does for the first 2 weeks of November. I shot my buck cruising thru a funnel at 7:30 on the morning of Nov. 16th. However I didn't see as many bucks as usual. I would rate our rut as a 7. Eric

Re: Done! Same here HarvDog! Glad you enjoyed the season. Went by pretty quick! Now it's time to bust a few Ducks and Geese. Also I'm scouting for next season and hoping to find a few sheds this Spring. Eric

On November 16th I shot this buck with my slug gun at 15 yards. If I would have thought I would have had a shot that close where I was I would of taken my bow. Oh well. He should gross near 145". Not too bad for a Virginia deer. Eric my 2004 buck
