  1. Re: Questions about the Encore T/C synthetic stocks are pretty cheesy. Hollow and noisy. I put a Boyds laminated stockset on mine, a world of diffference. Better balanced, quiet, and a whole lot better looking. Go walnut or laminated stock. Other than the synthetic stock absolutely no complaints. One other thing not a complaint but not a neccesity the extractor remove it and leave it out so you can pull the breech plug and clean the gun without taking the gun down. I've had mine for three years now after changing the stockset no regrets at all. It's a great shooter.
  2. Re: Changes in NY So zone next year I personally like the idea. My two brothers (bowhunters) absolutely hate the idea right now. Will see what happens next October. Bet ya the three of us will be heading into the woods with our T/C's in hand, and all the whining will stop.
  3. Re: Help with TC Encore I removed my extactor last year. I've been using Winchester 209 primers never had a problem with sticking or removing them. Good Luck
  4. Re: scope vs open sites Open sights are a thing of the past for these old eyes.
  5. Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!! I wish I knew some of the folks who had some of the PR QT40's close by so I could try a few before buying 48 of them.... Try Cabelas if you don't want to buy large quantities. Cabelas Extended Range Bullet. Same as QT40. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/...&hasJS=true
  6. Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!! [ QUOTE ] I freakin hear THAT! Man I thought I was gonna bend my rod in 2 pushing those bad boys down. But they shot better then anything else... Thanks. [/ QUOTE ] Have you tried any of Precisions bullets? I wanted to try the Shockwave/SST because they are a bit cheaper and you can get them just about anywhere. After a day at the range Wednesday. Watching my brother bend his ramrod, and me putting all my weight on a short starter trying to get them to start in the muzzle. I said screw this. Back to the Precision QT40 235gr.They shoot as good if not better that the Shockwave on paper, and did a number on the buck I took last year, and they load a whole lot easier too.
  7. Re: ShockWave stories wanted!!!! Shoot good. Pain in the arse to load
  8. Re: What Muzzleloader to Buy ?? T/C Encore for me. My brother is extremely happy with his T/C Omega. Both 50 Cal. I bought the Encore before the Omega hit the market. I don't regret it because of the versatility of the interchangeable barrels. But if I just wanted a muzzleloader It would probrably be the Omega.
  9. Re: precision rifle I've never shot the Dead Centers but do shoot the QT 40's. The 235 gr. bullet shoots real accurate out of my gun, and was very effective on the buck I shot last year. I tried T/C Shockwaves and SST's the loading problems associated with them wasn't worth the money saved. I'll stick with the Precision Bullets.
  10. Re: Loading TC shockwaves Seating the bullet was not an issue with my Encore. Starting it was. I have to put all my weight into the short starter to get it moving. Once I get it in the first couple inches it goes down and seats no problem. I'm using a Super Rat loading tool with a rotating head. The bullet seem to slide down nice and smooth with it as it follows the rifling. I tried T/C Shockwaves last year and SST's this year both in 250 gr. Same problem hard to start. IMO, I don't see where they are worth all the loading hassles. I tried them they are accurate. I'm going to stick with Precision QT40 235 gr. bullet which I think gives a slight edge in accuracy out of my gun and none of the loading issues. They cost twice as much but worth it to me. I hear of guys buying SST's then buying Havester Sabots to shoot them that doesn't seem very cost effective. Maybe someday Hornady will offer the bullets bulk at a better price and you'll have the option to choose the sabot that works for you. Till then I'll stick with the qt40's. I hope T/C and Hornady can come up with a solution.
  11. Re: Loading poly tips I tried the Extended Swivel Jag yesterday. It does seem that the bullet slides down the barrel much easier. As far as accuracy being improved I would say maybe if any in the load I shoot. A few things I didn't care for. The overall length of the ramrod makes it extend 4" or so past the muzzle. I swabbed the bore with it the spit patch went down came out no problem. The dry patch patch went down OK then stuck in the barrel on the way out. When I finally got ramrod out NO PATCH!! Lastly the tip rattles when I close my Encore. The factory rod always did rattle but this seem to enhance it. I'll probrably use it this up and coming season. The bore swabbing issue is over for now. I put the 777 up on the shelf and started using American Pioneer Powder. The rattling part that might go away when it gets gunked up. Was it worth $14.00 Maybe?
  12. Re: Loading poly tips Hornady and T/C market a loading jag to use with the SST's and Shockwaves. I bought the Hormady $2.99. Works pretty good. Cabelas and Precision Bullet offer a loading jag with a rotating head Precision calls there's The Super Rat @$14.00. Cabelas is called the Extended Swivel Jag. @ $11.99. They look like modified T/C Encore Super Jags with a rotating head. In theory they are suppose to promote better accuracy and easier loading by spinning the bullet down the rifling. I bought the Super Rat from Precision bullet. I'm going to the range in about an hour I'll let you know how it works later.
  13. Re: probs with Encore in wet weather? Seems to me the breech of an Encore is pretty much as sealed as your going to get. Besides the 209 primers are weatherproof. If I had any worries about rainy weather hunting it would be at the muzzle end. Keep the muzzle pointing down or cover it with a piece of electrical tape. You should be fine. Good Luck
  14. Re: Hornady SST [ QUOTE ] Sorry, but I have to disagree with the CLEANSHOT results. Yesterday I sighted my gun in at 50yds, had 2 shots 1.5" high, but touching. Last year had the same results, but I was at 75 yds, (different range location this year). I am shooting the T/C Express Mag sabots, 240gr over 2 50gr pellets of CLEANSHOT. Unfortunately, I have yet to shoot a deer with this combination, but hope to this weekend, and maybe a hog or 2. [/ QUOTE ] I shot a doe 2 seasons ago with the same load. The Cleanshot pellets and the 240 gr. XTP's shot great out of my Encore. The only gripe I had with Cleanshot pellets they didn't ignite well when I tried them in my Renegade. Cleanshot ffg turned out to be a winner in both guns. I have never experienced this moisture problem that everyone talks about. I bought the American Pioneer Powder to try, if I can get it to shoot reasonably well in my Encore I'm going to stick with it. I'm not a big fan of swabbing the bore between shots with 777. The infamous crud ring is a pain in the butt especially in a hunting situation.
  15. Re: Hornady SST Seems to me that your X-150 likes the SST's a lot better than Powerbelts. I just pick up a box of SST's hope my Encore likes them as well. I'll probrably start at 100grs. of ffg 777, then play around from there. I know a bunch of people will shutter at the thought of this but I bought a pound of American Pioneer Powder. Have to give it a try, my brother used it last year with excellent results. Both on paper and out in the woods he filled three of his tags using 120grs. of APP and the 250gr. SST's. Hope I can find a winning combination with the SST's. They performed flawlessly on deer out of my brothers Omega.
