  1. I'd give a mix of winter rye and white clover a try. I've heard the white clover is more shade tolerant than red.
  2. For a small plot like that, I don't think you can beat clover. Neither does Lee and Tiffany Lakosky. I listened to their question and answer session at the QDMA convention last weekend and Lee said clover was their best producer for killing big bucks.
  3. They are awesome. I won't go turkey hunting without mine.
  4. How big is your plot Todd? I planted a little over an acre of the Eagle beans 3 years ago and the deer wouldn't let them get over 6 inches tall. Great product.
  5. Not regular 2-4d....it has to be 2-4d-b.

    Dream Buck.

Holy moley! That guy is amazing!
  7. I don't know if any of you were at the convention last weekend. I spent between 5 and 6 hours there Saturday. I listened to a question and answer session put on by Lee and Tiffany Lakosky which I really enjoyed, and also a presentation put on by Bill Winke about low/no impact entrance routes to stands. He was very informative. There were a ton of booths there, including a friend of mine who owns a hydrographic camo dipping business. (www.duckvilleimaging.com) It was really neat to meet and talk to actual tv personalities. They were very down to earth and nice as can be. Here are a few pics. Buck at Pat Reeves/Nicole Jones booth. Picture doesn't do it justice. If I remember correctly from the show, it grosses around 200". Wall of dreams. These next 3 pics are from inside the Bass Pro buck trailer. It was incredible to see 200" typical whitetails in person. This is a 251" nontypical from Indiana. It was neat that they actually had 2 Indiana bucks in their collection. It surprised me. Me with Pat Reeves and Nicole Jones. Lee and Tiffany's booth. They were BY FAR the busiest booth in the place. There was a long line all day long. It took me 30 to 40 minutes to get through it. And here I am with them. (Everyone talks about how pretty Tiffany is. Let me tell you, she is even prettier in person.) Here is a hat I bought while there and collected autographs with. I got Gene and Barry Wensel (had fun talking with Gene), Pat Reeves and Nicole Jones, and Lee and Tiffany. Hopefully I'll be able to make it again next year (location is yet to be determined). If you get the chance to go, it is worth the trip.
  8. I sprayed my clover plots in late May and have been very happy with the results. I found a great deal on some Raptor a couple of years ago, which is supposed to kill both grasses and broadleafs, but not harm clover, chicory, or alfalfa. I've never had that good of results with it, but probably need to do a better job of adding ammonium sulfate and surfactant. To the Raptor mix this spring, I also added Select 2EC (clethodim) and crop oil. Clethodim is grass selective. I had one plot that was terrible with grass. The grass was already knee high and shading out my clover. No more! That plot is the cleanest now that it has ever been. After last summer's experience, I'll pay a little more and spray Clethodim and Raptor. After the Raptor is used up, I'll be looking for 2-4-db to take care of the broadleaf problems.
  9. Sorry for your loss Casey.

    house progress

    Absolutely beautiful William. Great job.
  11. I've shot FOB's and they do fly well, but he can't shoot them through his Whisker Biscuit. Drop-aways only.
  12. I have the Nikon Monarch 10x40 and absolutely love them. They retailed around $299, but I found them on sale for $269.
  13. Just noticed your location. Howdy "neighbor". I'm a few miles north of Ferdinand.
  14. I started shooting NAP QuickSpin Quickfletch Speed Hunter vanes last year and love them. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=netcon&id=0057078418510a&navCount=1&podId=0057078&parentId=cat20063&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=QL&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20063&hasJS=true
  15. I have to agree. I enjoy mowing and plotting as much as the actual hunting.
  16. I love atving and have traveled to a lot of places to do it. I wouldn't be able to do it without trails. I just hope the people that ride them are responsible and stay on the trails, so they don't ruin it for everyone else. Good luck getting a new riding area.
  17. I did this last year. I had good results with it early in the year when the temps were cooler. I sprayed a couple of plots with gly in the heat of July and burned them up. They did come back a little in the fall, and they look great this year (but I frost-seeded some extra seed into them over the winter).
  18. My number one dream hunt would be a Caribou bowhunt in Alaska. Dream whitetail hunts would be, not in any particular order: Milk River in Montana Southern Iowa Western Illinois The bow zone in Alberta Ohio (loved hunting Adams County last year)
  19. I bought the Gerber light a couple of years ago and haven't noticed that the colored lights helped at all with blood. What I do like about that light though is that the regular white beam is brighter than on most of my other lights. I use the white light on it to track more than anything else. I may have to check into the Mainbeam light though, it looks great.
  20. They'll all be bruisers this fall! Good luck!
  21. I'm guessing browsing the web isn't an option for an answer, so I'll have to say: Figuring out the answer to a problem that has been bugging me. I'm a network admin at a Seminary/School of Theology, so I occasionally run into issues with the network, the servers, or workstations in general that stump me. It makes my week when I figure it out.
  22. I'm sorry to hear that. I've spent a little time around both Barkley and Kentucky Lake and hate to hear that happened to anyone.
