Well I took my 2nd bird of the season here in Kentucky Thursday morning. My buddy and I were hunting out of the Matrix when two gobblers came in to the decoys. We got situatied in the blind and counted down to shoot. I dropped this one but I think my count wasn't loud enough cause my buddy didn't shoot. I started cutting on my mouth call and the other bird came in and flogged this one. When my buddy shot at him, that bird dropped his head to peck this one just as he shot. We didn't get a double but it was a great morning to be hunting none the less! This bird only weighed 18 pounds, had 1" spurs, and a 9.5" beard. Most of his breast feathers were gone so I figure he'd lost some weight servicing the hens!
I was again using the Encore 20 gauge, Indian Creek .555, and the Nitro straight #7 hevi shot. Guys, there's alot to be said for using a 20 gauge with the right choke and Nitro ammo. The 20's are so much easier to pack and just plain fun to shoot, not to mention no teeth jarring recoil!
