  1. Palin was in my town of Cape Girardeau, MO yesterday morning and I was able to make it. Stood in line from 6:15 to 7:45 in the morning, it was a little chilly, but well worth the wait. There were over 9000 people at the rally and it was awesome. Got some good pics too!!!
  2. I'm with you, can't start until Oct.1. I'll be able to go Oct 1 - 3 and like you I can't wait to get in one of my stands
  3. Just checking in. Any name is fine with me, just can't wait for the IL bow opener on Oct. 1. good luck everyone!
  4. I haven't shot the gators, but I do shoot the Rocky Mountain Snypers, which are a two blade mechanical head. I have had no problems with them and I plan on shooting them again this year. They leave a huge entry and exit hole, which leaves me a great blood trail to follow. These heads have no problem passing through rib bones, I get pass throughs with them almose every time. I have never shoulder shot one with these heads so I can't tell you much there.

  6. I was recently given an 1881 Remington Model 4 Rolling Block .32 caliber rifle. The gun is in very good shape and is completly original except for two screws in the but of the gun. Can anyone tell me what this gun may be worth or possibly give me more info about the gun?? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  7. I'm a die hard cubs fan. If all the Indians wanted was Felix Pie and Rich Hill for C.C., I pull the tigger immediatley. Pie hasn't done anything at the major or minor league level and I don't think he will ever amount to anything. Hill is just as bad. He can't find the strike zone in minors anymore. I think he is like Ankiel was.... he just can't find it. So if the Indians want those two for CC, they can have them and the cubs will gladly take C.C.
  8. We did the same thing. We decided to mount a deer about 8 years after it was killed. My grandpa killed the deer in 1997 and we decided to have it mounted in 2005. We went to our taxidermist and he told us he a a bunch of extra capes and that he would try to find one to go with the rack. He did'nt charge us for the cape and the mount turned out really nice. You wouldn't even know that the cape and antlers weren't from the same deer if you didn't know it.
  9. They would have went duck hunting with me that day! I wouldn't have messed with them. I'm like you guys, i would have loaded my stuff up and been on my way.
  10. I've from Southeast Missouri, but the city I live in is on the Mississippi River and I can be in Illinois in 5 minutes from where I live. I do all my hunting in Illinois.
  11. I don't have a pic of him, but my biggest buck with a bow was a little basket rack 6 point. I called him within 20 yds with the primos can call and smoked him.
  12. Last night on the outdoor channel I was watching the Western Extremes show. The host of the show, (not sure what his name is), was hunting mule deer. He had a nice buck probaly 150 to 250 yds away. The deer was facing straight away from him. He made some type of grunting noise and the deer stopped and just turned his neck and head and looked back at the hunter. The HOST of the show took the shot. Shot the deer in the neck. In my opinion that is a horrible shot. Shooting that distance, and shooting at the neck. He could have hit that deer in the hind end or who knows where. After the shot he was bragging about the shot and all that. Then when they walked up to the buck he was talking about shooting deer in the neck and how good of a shot it is. I couldn't believe my ears. To me that is a horrible shot to take. He could have waited for the buck to turn broadside or at least quarter to where he could have take a shot at the vitals. Just had to vent a moment.
  13. Nice looking mount, congrats!!! That is a very good looking herd you have on the wall!!
  14. I've been on a hunt like that before in southern Illinois. I think we only paid $40. My brother, dad, and I went as did my best friend and his dad. They five of us killed 15 birds, which is how many they put out for us. We had a great time. We had a guide and he had his two dogs. The dogs pointed and they pheasants flushed very well. If you didn't know they were pin raised you would have never been able to tell. It is a well ran operation. We didn't literally have to kick up a single bird. They flushed and then flew just like wild birds. We had a blast and I hope to get everyone together and do it all again.
  15. My vote would be the Mossberg 500. We have four of them and we have never had any problems with any of them. They are great guns and they really are workhorses. I hunt small game, waterfowl, deer, and turkey with mine and have had no problems at all. The mossberg would be my choice, but it really is personal prefernce. I've shot 870's before and I personally don't care for them, but then I've had buddies shoot my gun and they don't like mine. It's all about what is most comfortable for you.
  16. I did the same thing this year. I hit a doe right under the spine, but i didn't hit any organs or the spine. My brother killed her two weeks later. The entry and exit hole were both healing up very nicely. She would have lived had she not walked by my brother.
  17. Well, today marked the last day of the whole deer season. My dad and I went in and took all of our lock on stands down. The only disappointing thing about it was that one of out stands was stolen. They took the whole thing, the stand, climbing sticks, bow holder.......the whole thing. That just really gets to me. Why would a hunter want to steal from another hunter. Hunters already have enough people giving them a bad name, now you have hunters giving hunters a bad name. The number of hunters is on the decline as it is and then you have some idiot hunters stealing stands. I just had to let out a little steam. Now that we have all the stands down, its time to look forward to next season.
  18. My family had a pretty good opening weekend in Illinois. I commected on a doe friday evening. Then on saturday morning, my fiance killed her first deer ever and my brother connected on a doe. My dad is the only one left with a tag, but he'll be back out there for the second four days. My fiance's deer was, what we thought to be a big doe, but when we walked up on it we realized that it was a buck but he had broken both of his antlers off at the base. She was a little upset about that, but she got over it real quick. This was her fourth year hunting, first in Illinois, and she finally killed her first deer. I was just as excited as she was when the deer went down. I was so happy for her and to see how excited she was, was priceless!!! It was a great weekend. Congrats to everyone else who took deer over the weekend and good luck to those who will be out the second four days. My doe! Her buck!!
  19. I shoot the federal truball slugs through my smoothbore barrel. The truballs are made for smoothbore barrels and they are very very accurate.
  20. Well got back from the Illinois shotgun opener. I killed another doe, that makes three does for me for this year. My fiance killed her first deer this morning. We thought it was a big doe, but when we walked up on it, it was a buck. It had both of his antlers broke off at the base. He would have only been a spike for a little four point. So a successful weekend, none the less. Congrats wi on the buck!
  21. Thats an awesome room, and some nice bucks!
  22. I hunt in southern Illinois and they are chasing pretty good down here. We've seen good bucks and small bucks chasing, but unfortunatley we haven't been able to get a shot off a big buck yet.
  23. Went out for opening weekend of missouri's rifle season and only got a coyote, which is fine with me. this weekend is opener for Illinois shotgun, so I will be out there this weekend hoping to connect on a big Illinois whitetail. Good luck everyone!
