  1. Got a couple more. Called in 6 today, saw 8. One busted me and my buddy missed 2. Aside from the misses it was a great day. #1 was 125 yards trotting, big male. He just wouldn't stop so I gave it a try and made a good hit. #2 she came in with her hubby. This was a very aggressive female. Came in from a looooong ways out. She was charging so I stopped her and zapped her at 135 yards. Hoped my buddy would get hubby but he never did stop for the shot. Thats 3 so far plus the fox. Things are looking up.
  2. For 500 plus go with a 243 and above. They will kill a yote at those distances. BUT, quit obsessing over this long range coyote stuff. I shoot a LOT of coyotes, very rarely do I shoot one past 300 yards. Thats a long long ways on a coyote. I hunt in wheat fields where you can see forever but rarely do i ever shoot past 300 yards. I do not mean to be disrespectfull here, but if you really can't decide between a .223 and a .308 for loooong range coyote work your probably not experienced enough to make that shot with either rifle. If you want to have a lot of fun, nail down song dogs with authority, and shoot all day without going broke the choice is simple. .223 If you want a little more poop step up to a 22-250, if you want even more go with 220 swift. If your still obsessing on this long range business you need to look into a .260, 6.5 swede, or a 6.5 creedmore. The 6.5's are all the rage right now for target shooters.
  3. You can howl with just about any open read call. I like ones that give a higher pitch hoping it sounds like a smaller dog. Not sure if thats the case but that whhat I like. I bought randy Anderson's Lil dog (I think thats the name) and it's worked well. Primos actually has quite a few. but really any open read will work once you begin to get better at calling you'll know what I mean. Same with the KI YI sound. Almost any open read call will give great yips that a wounded yote would make. Just an FYI, good luck. I've got so many calls anymore it's rediculous though. Just start practicing and go after it. Howling is the only way to go once breeding starts next month. WooHoo!!!
  4. The coyote hunting is slow right now. I've only called in two, killed one in 4 trips. I did however get my first Red today. Have never even seen a fox around here. Sure was exciting. they're cool little critters. Nasty!! Nice!!
  5. I do think it's an Arisaka would need a closer look.
  6. It looks like it may be a sporterised Arisaka. need better pics of the action itself though. that will tell the story. Also any stampings on top of the barrel and/or action.
  7. I'm another 6.5 loonie. I think it's the greatest deer caliber there is. Flat shooting, mild recoil, great BC for good trajectory, great sectional density for better penetration. I do disagree a bit though with hunterbob. The 6.5 swede is entrenched pretty well and in a modern rifle and reloads you can get way better balistics than factory ammo will give. With really any 6.5; The swede, 260, creedmore, or any of the 6.5 mags you really need to reload or you'll probably be a little disappointed just because theres not enough factory ammo to choose from. Anyways, I have a 260 and a swede. I thought about the creedmore, maybe someday but for now I'm happy with what I have. If you choose any 6.5 roll your own and you'll love it. I guarantee it. It's an absolute deer stomper and very easy to shoot. If you don't reload and don't plan on starting go buy a 7mm-08. Lots of ammo and it's very close to the 260 rem, creedmore, and the swede.
  8. Wow 14 tags?! Thats outstanding. We get one a year here in WA.
  9. Finally got my deer officially entered. Great job Maddhunter!! WooHoo!!!! Now I'm going elk hunting. See you guys later!! Been a good year so far, 1 deer, 1 turkey, 1 bear, 1 antelope. Will the gods of hunting smile on me one more time for Elk?
  10. Team #6 bone collectors WA General rifle season Tag. I blacked out my middle and last name and my wild ID number. Hope thats OK Me and deer. Field photo isn't the best since it was from a cell phone. Another pic with a dated pic Let me know if these meet the requirements
  11. Was finally able to head out to WY to chase speed goats. Here's the one I took. Not the biggest but I lost my nerve. Those things are the coolest looking critters I've ever chased. Cold you say? You don't know what cold is until you hunt the windy plains of WY. Very uncomfortable. Also took a doe but was unable to get pics.
  12. Just got back from Wyoming. That was a good time. WooHoo!! I'll tell you what, cold doesn't even begin to describe the weather.
  13. I used a 260 this year. Have always used a 30-06. One time used a 350 Rem Mag. My daughters both used a 260 for all of there deer.
  14. Well my daughter got her first buck today. Yesterday the does just wouldn't come within range so we hoped for some cooperation today. We got to our favorite spot at sunup and the deer were not moving at all. No shots either which was strange. At about 8:00 we heard a gunshot right behind us and all of the sudden a little 3x4 came running by. I did the worst deer bleat sound you've ever heard and it actually stopped. Emilie had just a second and got the crosshairs on and center punched it. Made a perfect 138 yd shot with her little 260 throwing 100 grain partitions. She hit a little low but took out both legs and the heart and a lung. I couldn't believe it. Last year she got her first, a doe and now she's a stone cold buck killer. I got a decent 4x4 on saturday. Sorry for the bad pics. Forgot the camera so the cell phone had to do.
  15. Tagged out. 4x4. Will post pics later. My 12 Y.O. daughter got her second deer, 1st buck. 3x4. WooHoo!!!!
  16. Yeah me too. I want a 375 H&H but there's a 375 RUM I eyeballing right now. I really want a 243 or 257 bob. But I also want a 454 casull. I wont buy anything for a while and I'm not sure what it will be but I'll be sure to brag about it right here. Oh forgot. I will probably be buying a muzzle loader for next season but who knows.
  17. My chrony broke so I don't know exactly how fast but they sure do zap coyotes. Very accurate too. Can't wait to see how the Varmint Grenade got its name on the P-dogs.
  18. I've got a bunch 36 grn varmint grenades loaded HOT for my fall prairie dog shoot. CAN'T WAIT!!! One drawback they use a lot more powder than my little .223 but it's just a rifle a guy really has to have. The 22-250 is just an awesome round also though. I sold mine to buy the swift but I'll get another someday. BTW I rolled two yotes last year at 300+ with the swift shooting the 36 grain varmint grenades. Rolled them with authority. I bought the swift towards the end of the season last year. Can't wait to get out and collect a little fur again this year. WooHoo!!!!

  20. That about sums it up. I finally bought one last year and love it. It's long on "cool factor".
  21. Checking in because of the pm I was sent. Season starts next month. I wont forget about you guys, I just cant check in much these days. Sept is a very busy month for me.
