Re: West Virginia DNR.....made a big mistake... wvbowhunter - I feel your pain! I live in Raleigh county but I hunt in Kanawha.. both being counties affected by this whole situation. I looked at the front page of the paper today and wasn't really surprised in the least. I knew something was going to have to happen after the past couple years of hunting. Neighboring property to where we go has unfortunately been HEAVILY hunted the past few years and we are seeing fewer and fewer deer. They are obviously taking advantage of being able to fill 9? tags. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a mild winter for the rest of the year. Kanawha county really doesn't get much of a winter anyway, but most of the other counties can't catch a break from the snow.

Re: what gun do you use to deer hunt In past years I've taken a .243 but I was tired of them running 60-70 yards after being shot so I started taking a .270 this year which definately puts them on their butt. I shot a large doe this year with it and she didn't make it 10 yards before falling. I've also shot my dads 7mm but I have yet to take it deer hunting. Now THAT'S a gun..... lol

Re: I would like to say... Chiming in late to say thanks to griz! I went out on Sunday and bought my mom a dozen roses and got my little sis a bouquet of misc. flowers. I managed to get a bouquet of daisies, a box of chocolates and a balloon, although I would have rather received hunting equipment like a grunt call or something. LOL

Re: Bought my 9 year old a rifle That's absolutely awesome! The first year I went deer hunting I carried a .223! I didn't get the opportunity to shoot a deer that year but I believe it would have definately taken one down with the right placement.

Re: spring Well, since the place I hunt is over an hour away I didn't get to go hunting but one time this year and that was during the first week of rifle season. I killed a huge doe my last day up there.... and in that group of deer was a pretty nice 8 point (he wasn't with the few that came around the hill to me)which dad took a shot at IN THE GAS LINE OUT IN THE OPEN (lol) and he missed. I would have went squirrel hunting but in the past few years we would go the first couple days of squirrel season and it seemed to stir up the deer and push them off the property. Our seasons are kinda screwy in this state seeing as the opening day for squirrel season comes in a week before bow season. *shrug*

Re: The Weekend.... Well, since my car doesn't go in the snow AT ALL (someone buy me a truck), I'm waiting for the snow to melt so I can go out. I might break the 4 wheeler out and do some donuts on the road so the neighbors can cuss at me... Other than that, it'll be a normal weekend hanging out with a few friends and maybe go out to eat. Boring, huh?
