Travis Pastrana in the Nationwide series
huntermq32 replied to Nature lover's topic in NASCAR and Sports
I have always been a fan of his and would like to see him race. -
They should be yarded up so if you can be patient and try doing some long distant glassing. If you can't do that then wait for a fresh snow and check every field edge and pick the spot with the most tracks.Late winter can be very tuff but when you find were the deer are yarding it makes it alot easier. good luck.

I used to shoot archery comp against him and he is a exceptional shot. He might even hold a state title but I am not for sure. I do know he has taken several trophy bucks. The times that i have talked to him he seems to be a pretty cool guy. I know some people close to him and one said that it was a record of some sort. I will keep my ears open and post more when hear somthig.

I look at it's face if it looks like it is short and fat also if his back is saging. Then I look at his mid body, is his stomick hanging down or is it strait or does it go up a little. Next time you visit a veterinarin look mat the obesity chart for dogs per age this will show you what to look for.

I shot a 10pt a few years ago and three days later I had an encounter with antoher 1o pt.The bucks were about the same size 140inches but this one was limping real bad on his left front leg. I almost shot him but thought what if he could heal. I was sick about it because the coyotes are bad here but I saw him two weeks later and he was fine. He was killed two years later and scored in the 170's. I lost alot of sleep over that deer but the guy next door was real happy with it. Its best to just put them down but in this case I think he just sprained his knee.

Dr. James Kroll did a long and extencive study on the subjet and proved culling is not the way to go. You might be able to find his study results online somewhere. I do rember him saying the doe plays the biggest roll in genetics. The would be cull bucks caught up in antler size around 4.5 to 5.5 years old. I culled bucks for seven years to no avail. I have on average 35 deer on my hunting property. Usually two 150 class or bigger bucks and 10 or so younger bucks. These are totally wild hunted deer and every time one of the trophy bucks gets killed another one shows up.

I feel for ya brother. I hope you find another spot for next year. I could loose my spot at any time so I am savoring every moment. good luck to ya.

How many of you are finding carcases in the woods this year. I found three bucks that had already shed. Two were 1.5 year olds and one 3.5. I only coverd half the property.Lets keep a tally with dnr wanting to extend seasons and sell more permits this could lead to a big problem.

Oops that was supposed to go on the Il thread oh well.Good luck any way.

I found 2 one old and one fresh. They were small. I have seen way more people this year out looking so it will be tough with the deer getting bumbed around alot. One of my spots is kinda small but holds a good number of deer and I have seen at least three people a week since bow season ended going in there.

I have been hunting pretty hard lately but the deer were alittle to weary. I was seeing 20 to 30 on a regular baisis. Their were just to many eyes to fool and I just kept spooking them when I would pull my bow back.Tuesday I had a real good 10pt come buy at 30 yards and when I took a shot the arrow just skipped accross the snow at about 20 yards. I don't know what happed but my arrow never buried in the snow it was just laying on top and the snow is like powder. That was my last bow hunt of the season it was frustraing but on the bright side I finally got close the 10pt that I was playing cat and mouse with all year. This next week I will go to an indoor range and find out if my bow is broken.

I used to swab after every shot but what happens if you miss your first shot. The barrel is now dirty wich makes quite abit of difrence. Now I will clean barel shoot 4 or 5 shots and won't pay any attention to the first shot. Then when I get sighted in I will clean the barrel and then shoot one or two shots through it before I hunt with it.

I remember James Kroll say that the doe has more to do with genetics then the buck but I don't remember the mix.I have been hunting the same 12 pt for 6.5 years I haven't seen any other 12pt runing around that remotely looks like him.I do know that this paticular buck was not born on the property that I hunt.He came in one year to winter on some standing and decided to stay.

Deer will poop were the eat and in or near the bedding area. So if you aren't seeing any beds then they are feeding there more than likely. This time of year they will bed closer to where they will be feeding if they can.

Girlfriend encounters Albino!!!
huntermq32 replied to layin on the smackdown's topic in Deer Hunting
Yes near were I hunt but I was not hunting when I saw it. This spot had more then the one I saw. There was 3 total one was poached a few years back. One was found dead 2 years ago. The people who found it called dnr and confermed it died of natrual cuases. age was 8.5 or so. The other is a buck and no one knows if it is still around or not.
