Alright... Like I said and as some of you may know, I've been following around a Wide 8pt since 2006 when he was 2.5 years old. The way I know it's him every year is by his weak left G3. It is always the weakest tine on his rack and it shows every year. 2006 @ 2.5 years old: 2007 @ 3.5 years old: 2008 @ 4.5 years old: 2009 @ 5.5 years old: I feel that this buck I'm getting pics of now is definitely him. The buck's rack is spreading to grow wide like the Wide 8's has done in years past. I have one helluva history with this deer and I would love to stick him. He's in a bow only area in Rockland County, NY, 40 minutes from NYC. I almost shot him twice last season at 4.5 years old. I had him at 23 yards on 11/20/08 and 50 yards on 12/16/08, the last day of the season. Both times he just managed to avoid me. I cannot wait for this October. And now here's another buck I've had around since last year. Sticker. He grows a Sticker point on his right base. 2008: 2009: So as you folks can see, I'm very much so looking forward to this October. I cannot wait to deflate some lungs.

I have pics of the Wide 8 and a sticker buck from last year. Have pics of the Wide 8 dating back to 2006 and Sticker from last year. Will post them when I get home later.

The sticker only got about as big as it is right now last year. Then he disappeared. Didn't see him during the season but he obviously made it. -

Hey team.. no turkey for me this year . -
Just pulled the card for the first time in a few days and man these bucks are looking great. The one buck that we suspect to be the wide 8 is looking amazing. I'm 99.9% sure it's him. Waiting for the weak left G3 to confirm it, but so far it looks like him. First of all, I want you guys to see how big he got in 2 days. Here's a pic from May 27th: Now here's 2 pics from last night.. Check out how the bulb for his G2 started to come out and his main beam is curving already, in just 2 days! Here's two other bucks that look like twins. One just seems to have better browtines: And here's another buck that we know is a return from last year. His name is Sticker. He has a sticker on his right base. He showed up on the scene last year and disappeared come deer season, but thanks to trail cam pics, it shows it's him from last year from not only the sticker, but the scar on his nose: Future spike: To say I'm excited for October would be an understatement. I think I'm gonna go shoot the Mathews right now.

I'm stuck working all weekend.
-
Tom.. I think it is. This buck looks identical to how the Wide 8 has looked the last 3 years. If its him which I am 99.9% sure it is, he's 5 1/2 years old and gonna be one tough deer to kill!

Now thats not cool. Who edited my post?

I use a Summit Viper SS and absolutely love it. Have shot 3 deer in 2 years out of it and have zero complaints. For fixed stands I would take a good look at the RS series from Summit. I'm definitely going to be buying one this year.

I wish I had a hoyt, but this is what I shoot

Just got home from a weekend of turkey hunting at the place upstate and first thing I did was I pulled the card out of my trail camera.. And man oh man am I impressed.. It's amazing how fast velvet grows and now with turkey season winding down, I truly can't wait for October.

I reckon you were up in Mr. Andrus' neck of the woods... sweet pics.

I hope theyre not slowing down with the gobbling. I'm going to hit it hard this weekend. My original plan was to go up to the property last night and hunt there through Tuesday but then I got stuck working yesterday and this afternoon. So tomorrow morning, me and a buddy of mine are going to hit his spot in Orange County hard. We'll also be filming for HCO. Then I'm gonna shoot up to my property Saturday afternoon and hunt there through Monday. We still have one weekend left after this one but I think I'm gonna go all out this weekend because I have 3 days.

Man.. with all the rain we had this spring I got all frustrated saying it was gonna hurt the turkey hunting with flooded nests and active hens but it was gonna benefit the bucks big time with antler growth and indeed it has. According to what the pics look like from this time last year, their velvet is about 2 weeks ahead. And I'm not complaining at all. One buck looks like he's gonna be a real good one, possibly the Wide 8 from years past (some of you know that story) or maybe a different buck. If it's the Wide 8 then he's 5 years old and very smart. Another buck has what appears to be a sticker growing on his right base. We had a buck with a sticker in the same spot last year but he disappeared in the middle of the summer. This is definitely him because I checked back into last years pics and you could see the scar on his nose that matches up. But anyway.. I've rambled enough.. Here's the pics... This is Sticker: Here's the big boy: This is my new desktop background: Big buck and a little guy: And just a little guy:

This was painful too!!!!!

Chris.. that was was freakin painful to read! I've killed deer with Muzzy 3 blade 75gr, Muzzy 3 blade 100gr and Slick Trick Magnum 100gr. All did the job.

The Gobbler Rollers....Turkey Team #9

This season has been so screwed up for me. Nothing but rain everyday since May 1st (opening day). This past weekend I made it out Sunday with my bow, heard some gobbles, but it started raining then they shut up. Went back out around 9am, only saw a hen. Went back to the house and took a nap from 10-12:15pm. We can only hunt til 12 here in NY anyway. But I woke up because my cell was ringing and looked out the window and in the field next to my place up there was 2 toms and a jake in full strut. I go outside and look at them in the binoculars and the 2 toms had solid 9" beards atleast and the jake even had a decent 4"-5" beard. Outside you could hear them just spitting and drumming real loud. They were only 130 yards away. But just my luck huh? Go figure. The turkeys were right on my property all along not all over the mountain like me. Hopefully the weather holds off this weekend and I can get on a bird. Didn't even make it out on Sunday because of the high winds and storms. -
Got some fresh pics for you guys.. One buck looks to be growing much better compared to the others. There are 2 others that look like they'll be something decent, then theres are a few little guys that don't look like they won't be much more than spikes.. Take a look.. This doe looks ready to burst!!!

Cut on contact would definitely be the way to go. I'd personally go with either 75gr 3 blade Muzzy's or 85 grain Slick Tricks. I've killed deer with both and can't complain! The Slick Tricks I used were 100gr though.

Luck you. Atelast a few New Yorkers scored this year. It's been a bad year so far.

So tomorrow after school I plan to go up to my families property alone, try and roost some turkeys then hopefully get on them in the morning. I'm gonna be hunting with my DXT out of my Ameristep blind. I plan to try and set up where my brother shot his jake on the youth hunt 2 weeks ago, but heres the thing. The morning we set up there, we set up facing where we thought the turkeys would come from. 2 jakes ended up circling behind us from about our 9:00 to our 6:00 if that makes any sense to you guys. The birds circled through the field at our backs and he shot him from the woodline in the field. My question is should I set up in the woods, on the edge of the woods to field or in the middle of the field? Theres a break in a rock wall where if the turkeys fed through the field they would have to funnel through it. Should I set up near there? I guarantee that those 2 jakes walked through this opening to get to where my brother shot the one jake. I've heard that the blinds don't bother turkeys much, but I've never tested this. Is it true? I'm just trying to get my first turkey with a bow, jake or tom, doesn't matter, but I just want to make sure I do everything I can thats in my control. Also, we're coming off of 2 weeks of rain this weekend, atleast thats what the forecast says.. is the field a safe bet for turkey action? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.. Joe

What do you use and what works?
Squirrelhunter91 replied to Neb. The Good Life's topic in Bowhunting
I'm using my Slick Trick Magnum 100gr. These on my GoldTip XT Hunter 55/75's off my DXT are a deadly combo.
