The most impressive "terminal performance" was by a 9mm Black Talon (remember those??) which was a lower abdominal shot that expanded magnificently and shredded the liver in a star pattern (fatal in minutes), then severed the descending aorta (fatal in about a minute), then entered the spine, severed the spinal cord (incapacitating NOW) and embedded in the back of the vertebrae. That poor fellow went down so hard he had gravel in his mouth. {I would add that he particpated in the high-risk activity of street-pharmacy in the wee hours of the morning in a post-zenith urban area.} HB

He was INVITED by the school, with input being a vote on campus and the decision being made by the university president from what I gather. HB -
Our midwestern whitetails are absolutely delicious if killed correctly and well handled after that. They eat all the corn and beans that they want from spring to fall, then top it off with apples and nuts. A veritable cornucopia of yumminess. That beign said, a young deer yeilds much lighter colored meat that is unbelivably tender and mild to the tooth, as compared to a 5 year old buck or old doe. I am glad with the liberal bag limits that we have, I do not have to choose between quantities of meat on a larger deer versus the tenderness of a young deer...I can shoot both! Never had Axis, but I have eaten enough other critters to believe that there can be a qualitative difference between similar species. Dall sheep backstrap 3 days into a float trip is one of the nicer gustatory surprises of my life! HB

At my church, services are for praise and worship. Bible studies are for discussion, learning and growth. Both are very valuable and necessary. HB

Amen to the fit/feel/comfort factor. My wife likes a Beretta 92. IT fits her hand well, and she does not mind the recoil at all. I have been to several autopsies hosted by the 9mm, (and even a couple put on the the .380) and none of those guys ever had a bad thing to say about the stopping power of those calibers. I would go with a well-fitted 9mm and never look back. HB

They ought to put that ride in the "Hillbilly Deluxe" video, because it is redneck fabulous. NOBODY, EVER drives past you and says, "Hey, I think that was Tink in that truck, but I am not sure." You have erased all doubt. Excellent. HB

The Bishop of this area has decided not to attend the ceremonies due to this issue. Now graduates are talking about a protest and not going to the ceremony, either. I am not an ND grad nor a Catholic, so I also feel like I lack standing to protest in this venue despite my proximity. HB -
Have a good 'un Buckee. As we advance in years, I feel myself wanting to count each day as a separate blessing-wake up and take a deep breath of fresh air, "Smells like victory!" Many more blessings to you! HB

Another follow-up to the whole notion of getting close to God by enjoying his creation is that it does not bring focus onto Christ. A very important part of the picture, since, "None come to the Father but by Me." HB

Because it is a Catholic University, and the Catholic Church does not even condone PRE-conception birth control, much less second trimester birth control/abortion. The Catholic Church also does not agree with Embryonic stem cell research. President Obama is funding and promoting both of these issues with our money. HB -
"I could see many people getting away with murder but I would not want to go to jail for defending myself." I don't agree at all. My perspective is a little more technical than most, but you can not throw words like "murder" around recklessly. Murder is generally defined as unlawfully, knowingly, or intentionally killing a human being. In Indiana, then you have other statutes that define the parameters of legal justification for use of deadly force, which includes, "to prevent or terminate the other person's unlawful entry of or attack on the person's dwelling, curtilage, or occupied motor vehicle." If you are a drunk and you go to someone else's door by mistake and can't get in that's one thing. If you continue to beat on the door and try to force it open even after someone inside yells at you to go away or you will be shot, then that's different. Due to your own intoxication, you have impaired your ability to respond as a normal person and continued an "attack" on a dwelling after you have been warned and ordered to leave. At that point the drunk gets whatever he gets in my book. A shame-yes, a shame he got so plastered he couldn't even follow a simple order to save his life. A shame a homeowner shot somebody that in retrospect PROBABLY was not a huge danger to them. A homeowner is usually held to the standard of a "reasonable person." They aren't required to know or find out what the entire story is, they are required to act in manner that is reasonable given what they know or should know at the time. Do you have to open the door to find out if it is a drunk neighbor or a homocidal maniac? No, that would unnecessarily expose an innocent person to grave danger. The facts will be fleshed out whenever somebody is shot, and I am confident in modern law enforcement's ability to differentiate between murder as defined above, and a legally justifiable shooting. Whether or not charges are filed begins to get political, but the facts are the facts. Sorry for the long-winded rant, but just be glad I kept it brief. I can ramble on this one... HB

Yep, your place is definitely haunted. That doesn't mean that you don't also have coons under the floor, but most coons are smarter than to live under a haunted house. Just teasing. Creepy story, though. HB

Yes sir, you can haggle with Wal-Mart. Once upon a time a local Wally world put a stainless Ruger .270 M77mkII on clearance for a ridiculously low price. I wrote an even lower number on the back of one of my business cards and asked the clerk to give this offer to her manager, and have him call me with a response. Later that day I walked out with that rifle for $320... HB

Arlington is just so impressive. Audie Murphy's grave is opposite the auditorium and Tomb of the Unknowns. The Marine Corps memorial is just across the street from Arlington, too. Ford's Theater sounds lame, when you know it was gutted and used as storage for decaeds, but they have restored it and now in the basement is all of the evidence that was used in the trials against the conspirators. I found that very cool. The Law Enforcemnt Memorial was cool, as was the Wall, the Korean War memorial. National Archives was cool for a quick stop. Are you flying out there, I presume? HB

Guys, relax. We are not talking about censoring free speech. The comments that were edited needed to be, trust me on this one. It wasn't because they were not p.c. or were subversive. They were flat out inappropriate. Let it go. HB

I heard that several of these weapons were stolen from US military armories. That is a problem that should be addressed. This legislation will not do that, however. I bet there are laws and policies already in effect that would deal with that if they were stringently applied. Also, I was in Phoenix last week and the court there threw out charges that a local gun dealer had allegedly sold a great deal of weapons to straw buyers knowing that they were going to Mexico for the drug war down there. Google "George Iknadosian" for news stories. I do not know the specifics of the case or have an opinion as to which way it should have gone. I am against restriction of gun rights, but also not in favor of blatant disregard of the laws we currently have. There is a way to deal with laws we don't agree with, and by and large, it is not correct to simply ignore them. That only makes matters worse for us regular guys who want to follow the law by giving the gun grabbers more fuel for their fire. HB
