  1. Looks like she just got caught taking indecent liberties with a dead ursine. Pic is bad, but if real, that bear is huge! HB
  2. Of course based on the title to the thread I thought maybe some boy offered you a nice rifle for a dowry on your little girl... Just kidding. I think you would be fine going with the 870 youth, and sluggers are cheap and shoot out of the smooth bore pretty well for 40 yards or so. HB
  3. THAT is why I hunt. Nothing else but a brush with death will shake me up like bow hunting! HB
  4. Nothing moving on the last Friday of Gun season in Indiana...so i put the stalk on some fox squirrels. Shot at 3, hit two. I was correct to take only head shots with the .44 mag Winchester. That is why you get the view of the squirrels that you get... HB
  5. William- I am certain that the downward trend of violent crime on a graph would show a decline that began before Brady and continued relativley steadily thorughout Brady and after the sunset, too. Of course the statistics can be massaged to yeild whatever result the manipulator wants. Looking top the FBI Uniform Crime Reports, clearly most guns used in crime were not obtained legally, and further, most guns used in crimes have historically been .38 caliber revolvers-which are not addressed in any way in Brady legislation. HB
  6. This guys sure is. Note what he says about the political climate right now. http://video.ap.org/?f=ap&pid=Sq6Hi6POs0upc_2Nahio8ZFZDQOtVmN7 HB
  7. Just be careful with regard to whom you direct to "follow up" HB
  8. Not much agriculture in the way of corn and beans up there, so the quantity is not near what it is in southern Michigan. There are, however, some big critters cruising the northwoods. They are just few and far between. Learn to track like the Benoits and you will fine, maybe not so much on the treestand thing. HB
  9. Finn would call that a "Boone and Skillet" buck...good eating! HB
  10. Don't see your logic, there pal. He's not in office so don't panic about bad things, but yet give him credit for good things? I would think for consistency's sake, since he is not in office yet, we do not attribute anything at all to him, good or bad. Gas prices are not a result of a national election, sorry. HB
  11. Maybe some new jeans since my wife says the old ones are getting too faded for work. A continuation of all the blessings we have been given over the last year is a lot to ask for, but sure would be nice to have. We both have very good jobs, all of us are healthy, and the freezer is full. Anything more than that is gravy on top of goodness. I hope our country gets its collective head out of its rear and gets back to being one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Again, that is a lot to ask. HB
  12. I would go with the standard .270 or the .25-06. Might even want to consider the .243. Helpful, eh? HB
  13. I have hunted all day in a downpour, hunted in heavy snow, subjected the rifle to temperature changes, and never have had a misfire with an inline. Just the other day I had a misfire with the Hawken, but it was a second shot, and I could see fouling residue on the nipple. Another cap and she went off. HB
  14. Cabela's Hawken kit is probably not too bad. I have one of their BP rifles, and I like it a lot. HB
  15. Nothing wrong with neighbors helping neighbors. Good form, Mach1. Again, thank you to those who are thinking of others. HB
  16. I pass on the guts, but a nurse at the bloodbank will come 25 miles to pick up hearts and livers, so I salvage those out of the gutpile for her. How about you just use a twisty tie and tie off both ends of the stomach, and throw that baby in a roasting pan for a couple hours at 350 and let us know how it is, too? ---
  17. All with stick bow? Very impressive! That buck is awesome. I really like mass! HB
  18. i don't really know or care what he scores, that's a beautiful buck. Congrats! HB
  19. Or give the "prepaid visa" type gift cards that are usable at a variety of places... HB
  20. Good one Finn Boone and Skillet Club! i like it! I did have the innies for breakfast within a couple hours of the hunt. MMMMMMM! HB
  21. WTG, Ben. Congrats, bud, he's a dandy buck. HB
  22. Yes, sir. She was my second biggest on the year at 125#. The other one...sure is tender. HB
  23. So every year I break out the traditional style caplock and go hunt for a day. I don't wear any camo, only wool. No binos, no rangefinder, no calls, no corn flinger or robo-buck decoys. Usually it amounts to nice exercise in how hard life was back in the day. Not so much today. I let the young 9 point walk, but these ladies did not get so lucky. I borrowed the neighbor's digital camera to bring you the picture so I didn't get hazed. Hope you enjoy. HB
