Thanks, Kyle, I will definitely check that out! I know He is always thinking ahead and everything He does is for the better and i'm sure this is a test, it just really stinks. I'm looking all over the country for job opportunities, but the process is so long, that I can't just move to a different state and risk not getting the job there. I have a job here and very few expenses as I'm still living at home waiting for something to come up. It's really a tricky position to be in. From the time of application to the hire date for most departments is anywhere from 4-12 months, so it would be difficult to move out of state somewhere and try to find a job there for the time being until I get a police job. I know this sounds like a bunch of excuses not to move, but I have student loan payments that I have to make and I have to have a job to make those... -
I've been here since '05, when I was 16 years old. All I cared about then was playing basketball and getting into college and wanting to be a cop. Now I'm 22, a college graduate and still wanting to be a cop. LOL Definitely had some fun times on here and made some good friends. To me, this is still THE best forum out there.

Has anyone here ever used them? If so, what do you think? Have you had any trouble with them opening? Blood trails using them? Basically tell me anything and everything you know from experience please. The reason I ask is I lost two deer this year using Muzzy 3 blade 100 gr broadheads. I'm not saying it was the broadhead's fault, but one deer bedded down and there was a blood puddle twice the size of my foot and I still lost the deer. I'm looking for answers, and one of those might be to change broadheads. I have heard nothing but good things about Grim Reapers, but also wanted any more feedback I could get.

But the man upstairs really isn't smiling down on me right now. I just saw on the news that one of the departments I was hoping for a job at just hired 3 new officers... the maximum amount they had the budget for last time they were in contact with me. Now I'm waiting to hear from one of the other departments that was looking hopeful and hoping and praying. I'm also headed down to Nashville TN next Thursday to test for a job down there. Maybe something will come out of those two but I'm feeling pretty down on my luck. I know I should just be happy that I have a job for the time being but all I have wanted to do for a long time is be a police officer and nothing seems to be working out right now. I knew this wouldn't be easy when I started this career path, but I feel that I'm doing all I can right now to further my career choice and nothing is coming from it. It is just such a long, drawn out process and it really gets discouraging even though I'm on the list at 4 different places and still looking for more places to apply. Not really sure what to think right now. Well thanks for listening to me rant. If you guys and gals could spare the time I could use a few prayers.. Thanks again.

I shoot a Mossberg model 500 12 ga with a Simmons 3-9x40 variable scope. 24 in. rifled barrel. Shooting Lightfield slugs 1 inch high at 50, dead on at 100. Love the gun, shoots well and an extremely reasonable price. I got the deer/field combo for around $500.

Got the pics in a text on my cell phone. Hadn't heard any specifics on exactly where it was found. Truly a shame though. In the text it said the biggest buck was an 11 pt. that scored 169"

Well, it's not an upgrade but I took a doe this evening with my muzzleloader. This is my best season so far as far as harvesting animals. I have taken 3 deer this year, 1 with a bow and 2 with my muzzleloader. Hope you all are having good seasons as well! -
Looks awesome Kyle. I'm happy for ya bud! Congrats!

Same here, I missed a call the other day. House was fully involved by the time the primary dept. got on scene. We were mutual aid. We didn't have a chance. No one hurt though. One thing mentioned above Jeremy is that you will see some nasty stuff. I know this sounds kind of... sadistic, for lack of a better term, but I think it must be said and you must consider it. As a firefighter you will respond to traffic accidents and often times, I respond on EMS calls here on our dept. just for lifting assistance. I have seen 2 fatal traffic accidents and the first time you see death it will hit you hard man. I know it did me. My first fatal accident was 3 years ago and we had another one in August and it still got to me. I don't think you ever get immune to it, but you have to learn how to deal with it. I would recommend doing some serious soul searching even after you have gone to several meetings and talked with several of the guys (and possibly gals) and think about if you think you could handle it. I hope you can and you join and learn a lot and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from being a part of a dept.

Buck is submitted and story is up in the deer hunting room! -
Well, I had to sit out first shotgun season here in IL due to having my tonsils removed. I was able to go out the last night and saw a small doe but chose not to shoot. Second season hadn't treated me much better until last night (Fri. Dec 3). Let's start from the beginning. Thurs morning: sat all morning, did not see any deer. I knew a buck was working the area as he had been seen coming into this area several times in the last few weeks. I was basically hunting 2 hillsides seperated by a draw and enclosed by 2 other draws. Thursday afternoon: I hunted the same area and again did not see a deer. I thought Friday morning I would move south and east about 500 yards and try it down there overlooking a creek bottom that fed into the area where I had been on Thursday thinking maybe I could catch a deer sneaking his way through the bottom. That didn't work. Well Friday afternoon I head out to the same area I had been in on Thursday. I did not see a deer during the entire hunt. Well for the past few years I have been heading back to my truck a few minutes early during gun season in case there was a deer in an area that I could not see from where I was sitting and it finally paid off! I began easing back to my truck and got to the draw that separated the hillsides and I heard a buck grunting coming down the hill. I dropped to one knee and looked for him and saw a tall frame of a deer. I decided if he gives me a shot I'm going to take it. He kept coming down the hill grunting all the way then all of a sudden, while quartering to me at 25 yards, he put the brakes on. He had seen me. I decided it's now or never. It's not the shot I wanted, but I didn't have a choice. I put the crosshairs of my muzzleloader right in front of his shoulder and squeezed one off. He went two jumps and piled up tail over antlers. I haven't scored him yet, and it really doesn't matter to me. He is only the second shooter I have seen since our deer season began on Oct. 1. I still have a muzzleloader tag to try to fill next weekend, but I am jacked about getting this buck! Here are some pics:
