  1. We just had a tornado warning issued for here. Weather is turning nasty in a hurry and they are predicting it to stay that way until about 6 am then sustained winds of 25-35 all day with gusts over 45. Be careful out there and stay safe guys and gals!
  2. Well guys, bucks are starting to respond to a grunt tube here. Called in a little 6 pointer last night. He came on a string. Hope to get out Thursday. Things are supposed to cool down to a high of about 50 here with lows in low 30s. I'm going to start rattling a little bit. Hopefully the big bucks are starting to get a little angry and want to fight and they find an Easton arrow shaft sticking out of their side.. LOL On the up side, I went out tonight and shot a squirrel. My first ever with a bow. I would post a picture but it's pretty gruesome. I shot him with a broadhead and hit him right behind the head in the neck and almost decapitated him. It definitely increased my confidence to shoot like that. Good luck to all. Hope the season gets better here as the pre-rut gets kicked off and things start cooling down.
  3. Ken I have to completely agree with you. I'm 22 years old and it sickens me to kids act as disrespectful as they do and be as slobby as they are. When I was their age, if I wore my pants like that or acted like many of the kids do my parents would have superglued a pair of suspenders to my chest and then I would have got my butt spanked and I wouldn't have sat down for a week because I would have been so busy doing things because I would have been grounded. It is definitely sickening and scary. The clothing attire bothers me but not as much as "I'm king of the world and NOBODY is going to tell me what to do" attitude. One prime example. Whenever I was on my law enforcement internship with a police department, we got sent to a fight in progress where a bunch of teenagers were fighting in the street. We get there and the instigator of the fight is 14 years old and has been tased 3 times. We get there and he has a 2x4 in his hands brandishing it like a club. The cop pulled his taser our and put the laser sight on his chest he dropped the board and laid on his stomach as ordered, but his mom came out screaming at the cop. It all starts at home and kids don't get disciplined and many times the parents just don't care about the kids.
  4. Went out tonight back to my best property. I had a doe and 2 yearlings come in behind me. Got turned around for the shot but the doe never gave me a good shot. She was within 25 yards for 5 minutes and never would give me a shot I was confident with. Hope to get out a little this week and maybe once next weekend.
  5. Happy birthday to the both of you! I hope you have great ones!!
  6. Well, I hit a nice buck last night... 130" class 8 point. http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101787 Here is the link to the story. I didn't find him. Sorry guys Hopefully I get a chance to redeem myself soon.
  7. Well, after 6 hours of searching.. 3 in the dark and 3 in the daylight all we found was 3 drops of blood. Went back out this morning and walked the timber in a grid search and didn't find anything. Then I rode the 4 wheeler through a cow pasture looking for him. I'm thinking what might have happened was his right shoulder (the one facing me) was forward so maybe the vitals had shifted back and I nicked one lung and he healed up and is still alive. I'm just sick right now. Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Hopefully I'll get a chance to redeem myself soon.
  8. Didn't find him. I'm so down in the dumps right now. Only found 3 drops of blood about 100 yards into the trail. No idea direction of travel from there. I'm so dang upset right now, i'm almost physically sick. I'm going back out tomorrow to try to at least find a body. The meat will probably spoil overnight since it's supposed to be so warm here, but it's hard to do a body search in the dark with absolutely no idea of where he might be. I am absolutely sick right now guys...
  9. Well about an hour ago I hit a 130" class 8 ptr. He is my best buck ever with a bow. He was slightly quartering away and I hit him behind the shoulder. The arrow lodged in the opposite shoulder and broke off. The buck ran away and jumped a fence. Didn't follow blood trail more than 15 yards. I think it's a really good hit. I'm waiting till 8 to take a friend back out w/ me to find him. Hope to have good news in a couple hours!!!
  10. Well, I've been battling chronic tonsillitis for about 4 months now. Finally went to an ENT(Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist) and they said that there are enough determining factors to take them if I wished for them to. I said I wanted them gone because I'm sick of having problems with them. So they tell me everything involved (surgery under general anesthetic, sore throat for about 2 weeks, can't lift anything over ten pounds for 2 weeks etc.) Then they send the nurse in to schedule the surgery. The first date they can do it is Nov 19. For those of you in IL, you know this is like a state holiday us... Opening day of 1st shotgun season. The problem is the next date they can do it would be sometime in January. I can't wait that long because I'm waiting on a job offer and I know that 2 of the places i've applied will be hiring soon after the first of the year and I can't take a chance on not being able to accept the job b/c of being down from the surgery. The main reason is, if they decide to send me off to training soon after they hire me I must pass the POWER Test which requires me to bench press 98% of my body weight... That's a little more than 10 pounds LOL. So I'm gonna miss out on opening day of deer season for the first time in like 9 yrs But it will definitely be worth it to not have to worry about this problem anymore.
  11. Went out this evening.. it was warm, but i saw 3 deer. 2 does and a yearling.. nothing close enough to shoot though. I'd been out twice before now but hadn't seen anything. It's supposed to warm up here this weekend, so I probably won't go out much. I might go in the morning but definitely not in the evenings.. it will be way too hot.. Hopefully everybody has some luck soon.
  12. Well... I think it coulda been a lot worse... coulda been a lot better. I interviewed with this department last year and also completed my internship with them this past spring. I know I was nervous and felt like I could throw up. It's the worst i've ever felt in an interview. I'm hoping it went better than I think it did. I will find out the results in November and will definitely update you guys. Thanks for the well wishes guys. I truly appreciate it.
  13. Hey everyone. I know I haven't been on here much lately. That has mostly been due to work. We have started harvest and have been working ridiculously long hours to get the crops out. We have about 500 acres of beans left and 34 acres of corn. I'm hoping we can finished up in the next week and a half or so. My interview with Decatur PD is this afternoon at 2:15. This is my dream job at the place I want to be cop the most. I hope it goes well. If you guys and gals would have time to send one up for me I would truly appreciate it. Hope all is well with everyone and good luck to all during deer season this fall.
  14. That happens Mirage. I had it happen twice to me last year during gun season. Once on a really nice buck and again on a doe the next night. I made it out to trim up some deer stands and things look good on one of the properties I hunt. I saw a few scrapes out there and jumped a doe. If I get a chance to thwack a doe opening weekend I'm going to. We need the meat in our freezer. Good luck to all...
  15. Hey everyone checkin in... Season starts here on Oct. 1. Don't know how much i'll be able to hunt due to work on the farm, but hopefully more than I was able to when I was in school. I probably won't be on much until season starts due to long hours at work. Whatever you guys come up with for a name is fine with me
  16. I have harvested two bucks that would qualify for P&Y, but they were both harvested with firearms. One was a 9 pt that scored 125", and the other was a 10 pt that scored 139" (The buck i'm talking about is the biggest one in the middle with the deer hooves as part of the mount.)
  17. I've heard if you hit a skunk in the guts with a rifle it won't spray. Never tried it before, just hearsay from a guy that I know. They say if you hit them in the head they still have the ability to spray even if you kill them instantly. I know it sounds counterintuitive, and like I said, I've never tried it, but maybe something to research...
  18. I know what you mean. The first time I changed the oil on my '99 F150 it took me about 20 minutes to find the filter and that was with the help of my boss on the farm! It's on the driver's side hidden up under the exhaust manifold on the side of the block.... It's a pain to get to! It sounds like that is a good setup you have though once you knew where everything was at.
  19. I use Carbon XpressBond. I have shot hundreds of arrows at a target and had a complete pass through on a deer last year and the vanes stayed great. I have yet to have a problem with it.
  20. Well, I had a little accident last night. We were putting up a 30'x60' ft tent on an asphalt parking lot and driving 1" rebar stakes through the asphalt in order to hold the tent. Well I hit the edge of one of the stakes with a sledge and cut a piece of the stake off and sent, red hot, flying into my upper bicep. We thought we had the wound clean and there wasn't any steel in it when we left to go home. Well I jumped in the shower and got done and started to clean the wound and dress it when blood began gushing out again. So, I woke up dad and we made a trip to Outpatient. They took x-rays and found that the piece of metal was still lodged in. So a minor extraction with local anesthetic and the piece of steel was out. It is about 1/4" long and is kind of shaped like Africa... Not joking LOL. I'm all stitched up now with a little pain and bruising around the area, but nothing too serious. The stitches come out in 9 more days. Guess I just gotta kind of take it a little easier for a while. The worst part is I can't shoot my bow for like 2 weeks now!!!!! LOL
  21. Well, Dad is going to bite the bullet and buy a 4 wheeler. It will be the 1st one he has ever owned. It's a Honda Foreman 500 4WD 5 speed kick shift in the olive green color. I'm so pumped. Hopefully we can go pick it up Thursday and if we do I will get some pics up of it!
  22. Unless that picture is very deceiving I'm pretty sure that deer will push 150 or better. He's got at least 9 or 10 in. G2's, 7 or 8 in G3's and 3 or 4 in G4's plus a 22" plus spread and looks to be great beams on that deer. That deer is a great buck!
  23. Casey I would say both of the top two pictures are 4.5 years old prolly 140-150" type deer. They are definitely shooters and great bucks. I hope to see one of them on the ground this fall with you behind it!! They definitely are some good lookin deer.
  24. Casey, I would have to say he is a 3.5 yr old deer but I would agree that he probably won't gain a lot of antler if you pass him till next year. Most deer show a lot of potential at 3.5 if they are going to jump in the next year or 2 and he doesn't really show that. He does have a big body for this time of year though. By the time hunting season rolls around that deer could be pushing 275 or 300 lbs. :jaw::jaw:
