Team 2..... Gobbler's Nightmare
Bowtech_archer07 replied to Strut10's topic in Announcements & Online Contests
Bowtech checking in... name is Kyle live in central IL. I will be able to hunt more this year than ever so I probably won't get a thing lol! I have only had a weekend to hunt during on my first permit due to school the last 7 years and this year i'll be done before our seasons even start here so we'll see how it goes. As far as team names how bout Gobbler's Nightmare? It doesn't matter to me just an idea -
Happy birthday Ben! Hope you have a good one buddy!

Congrats Team 10!

Congrats a great looking deer! I was hoping to go this year but things just didn't work for the people I was gonna go with. Went last year though and had a great time. Byron Ferguson is a heck of a guy. I watched him last year. That was a blast!! Did anyone ask him when he started shooting a longbow? His answer is hilarious!!

My first turkey was when I was 15. I was on the youth hunt here in IL with my dad when he called in 2 jakes. I had to wait what seemed like forever before they finally came in to the decoys and gave me a clear shot. I was so pumped I ran out into the field screaming and lost half the calls in my vest. LOL My first longbeard was taken during 5th season 2006 in IL which falls during early May. I was hunting by myself when I saw two turkeys about 800 yards away. I called and they hammered back. They came across an open field to my decoys and I hammered him. He weighed 18 lbs, had an 11.5" beard and 1 1/8" spurs. Needless to say I was just as or more excited than when I killed my first turkey. Here is a picture of the mount that dad and I did.

I heard they put out a Missing Persons Report on him. On it it stated he was possibly headed for California where people might actually listen to him!!! HAHAHAHAHA

That was a heck of an ending to that race. Jr going from 10th to 2nd in 2 laps?? Pretty cool. I think if he would have had another half a lap he might of took that race. Also I think it was hilarious that Jeff Gordon, who cried about bump drafting in the corners bump drafted coming out of the corner and caused a wreck. What a hypocrite. Even DW was getting on him for it. Sorry to Kasey Kahne that he had to be the victim of it.

Just received this in an email and thought it was worth sharing. Hope you enjoy it. He was getting old and paunchy And his hair was falling fast, And he sat around the Legion, Telling stories of the past. Of a war that he once fought in And the deeds that he had done, In his exploits with his buddies; They were heroes, every one. And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors His tales became a joke, All his buddies listened quietly For they knew where of he spoke. But we'll hear his tales no longer, For ol' Bob has passed away, And the world's a little poorer For a Soldier died today. He won't be mourned by many, Just his children and his wife.. For he lived an ordinary, Very quiet sort of life. He held a job and raised a family, Going quietly on his way; And the world won't note his passing, 'Tho a Soldier died today. When politicians leave this earth, Their bodies lie in state, While thousands note their passing, And proclaim that they were great. Papers tell of their life stories From the time that they were young But the passing of a Soldier Goes unnoticed, and unsung. Is the greatest contribution To the welfare of our land, Some jerk who breaks his promise And cons his fellow man? Or the ordinary fellow Who in times of war and strife, Goes off to serve his country And offers up his life? The politician's stipend And the style in which he lives, Are often disproportionate, To the service that he gives. While the ordinary Soldier, Who offered up his all, Is paid off with a medal And perhaps a pension, small. It's so easy to forget them, For it was so long ago, That our Bobs and Jims and Charlies, Went to battle, but we know, It is not the politicians With their compromise and ploys, Who won for us the freedom That our country now enjoys. Should you find yourself in danger, With your enemies at hand, Would you really want some cop-out, With his ever waffling stand? Or would you want a Soldier-- His home, his country, his kin, Just a common Soldier, Who would fight until the end. He was just a common Soldier, And his ranks are growing thin, But his presence should remind us We may need his like again. For when countries are in conflict, We find the Soldier's part Is to clean up all the troubles That the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor While he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homage At the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline In the paper that might say: "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Well I've heard 2 stories on this. My cousin knows a guy and has seen this deer or one that looks a lot like it. He says that the deer got into a fight and broke the antler off. The other story that I heard on here last year or 2 years ago was that this antler grew out of this deer's eye socket and a taxidermist peeled the skin off and you can see where this antler grew. I cannot remember who, but somebody posted a link to another website where these pictures were at, however I cannot remember who or what website. There was a huge discussion about it though.

Calling for 5-7 where I'm at and I gotta drive 50 miles to my internship tonight. Hope the roads stay somewhat clear around here.

That house sure looks nice Ben. Hope you get it bud!

Ya that makes sense in a state that is so Democrat because of little city called Chicago Kyle. In OK, I can see that happening but not here in IL. I mean I know how to handle a sidearm and I have a FOID card, but I can't see that ever happening here in IL.
-
Thanks Steve, not helping my nervousness at all!!!!!! I do get body armor which is one nice thing. I'm hoping things stay pretty quiet 2nite.
-
No, not getting a weapon. I'm not getting trained on that. Wish I was though.

And I go to 3rd Shift (11-7) today. I'm excited because things will be busier on this shift than on 1st shifts, but i'm definitely not looking forward to staying up all night. I slept in really late today so I'm hoping that helps. Things are still going great during this internship and I'm loving every second of it. Just thought I'd update everyone on how it's goin!

Glad you got make it home Ben.. and why haven't I seen pictures yet????

The weather is absolutely terrible here in central IL. Snow with sustained winds around 30 mph. I am still on my internship with Decatur PD. I got about 15 miles north of the city when I saw 3 wrecks and slid sideways twice. I decided it was time to turn around and stay at a friend's place who is a cop in Decatur. I called him and he said no problem. So here I am. Hope anyone on the roads stays safe out there. It's pretty dangerous.

That's awesome Stone. I might try to get tomorrow afternoon if it doesn't rain too much here and I have time. I will probably be riding edges on the 4-wheeler if I get out.
-
That is great news to hear Steve. I'm glad things are better for you.

I have 2 primary calls that I use. One of them is the HS Strut Matrix 360 slate call. The other is the white lightning mouth call from this website: http://www.realityoutdoors.net/ They have worked great for me the last 3 years. Really when it comes down to a favorite call it is more about what call(s) you like the sound of and the birds you are hunting like the sound of. Practice a lot and sound perfect on several different calls then you can pick your favorite from that based on what works in the field.

HAHA maybe!!!! Today definitely wasn't fun. Dealt with a scumbag who did some really bad stuff. It felt good to get him off the streets but just kind of a weird feeling in my gut since we had that encounter. What he did grossed me out. I'm not supposed to divulge a lot about details we've encountered so I have to leave it at that. It is definitely something I hope nobody ever has to experience.
-
Haha. You gotta come through IL and I might think about it!!! LOL

Well, a week and half into my internship and things are going good. I've met a lot of good guys on the department already and i'm learning a ton. I've got to write a citation, see 3 people arrested, witnessing the booking on all of them and I got to execute a search warrant on my 4th day!! I'm having a blast and enjoying not having to take classes!! :D 11.5 weeks left and I'm looking forward to the rest of it, especially getting to 2nd and 3rd shifts when things really start happening... lol
