  1. Rattled up another small buck last night. Wasn't able to go today, partially due to weather, and partially due to other commitments. I think next weekend the big boys will be on their feet. I'm hopefully gonna get to spend a lot of time on stand next weekend. Good luck to everyone!
  2. If the pre-rut ain't on here in IL, it's within 3 or 4 days. I called in a little spike buck tonight that was really aggressive. He lip curled, raked a tree and never took a bite on his way to me. I'm hopin the big boys will react the same way. We had cloudy, windy, rainy conditions all day. I'm hoping it clears out a little overnight and maybe a big ole buck will be out lookin for a fight in the morning.
  3. Good luck on finding him. Sounds like you definitely did the right thing by backing out, especially since you lost sight of him so quickly.
  4. That's a cool experience for sure. I've had deer make scrapes close by and actually under the overhanging branches of a tree I've been sitting in. Never had a deer rub a tree I've been sitting in though.
  5. That deer is a STUD no matter where it was taken.
  6. It happens to everybody Ruth. We all get anxious when the adrenaline gets going when we have a live animal standing in front of us. It's a lot different than just slingin arrows at a target. It's good that you realize what happened, and good that nothing on your bow is off, but I wouldn't beat yourself up too bad on this. At least you can admit you made a mistake. I know a lot of people who make a poor shot or a poor decision and claim it was a perfect shot opportunity and a perfect hit. I hope when you go back out to look for her you can find her
  7. That is an awesome mount! Very unique... also, what a GIANT rack!!!
  8. WOW, another Kansas GIANT. Hope you get a crack at him!
  9. Breathe deeply, concentrate on the shot, and I know it sounds stupid, but I came up with a little saying repeat over and over to myself... Find your pin, Find your spot, Smoke em. That definitely helps keep me focused on what I have to do to make a good shot.
  10. http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Weather.aspx?location=USIL0949 Here is a link to the weather in Pittsfield IL which is right in the heart of Pike county. This is actually about average for this time of year.. Good luck and let us know how you do!
  11. WTG aujack!!! I didn't make it out this weekend. Worked 9:30-5 on Friday, 9:30 am to 1 am on Saturday/Sunday then 9:30 am to 10 pm on Sunday. No chance to hunt for me except Friday and it was drizzly, overcast and miserable. Not sure what this weekend looks like. If it stays warm and dry, probably more of the same as far as work as long as there is corn dry enough to be harvesting. I think Halloween weekend the rut is really going to start kicking in and things are going to get geared up here in central IL
  12. That's right... very little sleep and absolutely no hunting this weekend. Things dried out enough for my boss to get in the fields and get in the fields he did. We worked from 9:30 am Saturday till 1 am Sunday morning, then back at it from 9:30 am Sunday till 10 pm. I'm glad that we are finally getting in the field and getting things taken out and that the weather appears to have taken a turn for the better for a while, but dang, I'm beat. If things stay dry, I'll probably be working the same schedule or more next weekend too. Ok, I'll quit complaining now..
  13. Congrats wyo!! That's a great buck!
  14. What a GIANT. Congrats to the lucky hunter.
  15. WOW, what a buck. Any story behind it?
  16. I have had the same experience as Tony. I have never seen a lot of deer movement in even a light drizzle. I've heard that after a rain like that, deer will move like crazy though.
  17. Good luck NY, my hunting is going to be slowed this weekend due to working. I'm going to try to get out a couple of times. I think next weekend and the following are going to be rockin here in IL.
  18. You know it man!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA Thanks everyone.
  19. That's awesome Chris. I try to keep in touch with some of high school teachers as well That's gotta be rewarding for you man.
  20. You do, you wish that I would kill a 180" whitetail on some property that I hunt this weekend, so it's great for me and bad for you. THANKS!!!! I wish I had unlimited ammo for all my guns for the rest of my life.
  21. Dang, Bow season I can get as many tags as I can afford. Shotgun season you can get 2 tags, then they just changed the laws so you can buy leftover antlerless tags over the counter. 1 Muzzleloader tag, then 1 late season tag if you want them. However, you can only kill 2 bucks from Oct. 1 thru the end of the season in January.
  22. Wish granted, but you are so brave that you scare everyone away and you have no more friends. I wish I knew why my truck was running bad.
  23. How bout we find out who has the lowest bag limit and set that as the maximum number of deer that can be submitted? I can shoot as many does as I can afford to buy tags for during bow season, so my limit isn't going to be the maximum.
  24. Dad and I have our own storage area in our shop that we skin the deer in and quarter them, then we clean up our shop and set up a table and cover it with a sheet then plastic table covering. Then we have cutting boards that essentially are 2 3'X2' scraps of 3/4 pressboard covered with formica. Then we have at it, bringing the deer in from the storage area and cutting it up in our heated shop. It's nice in the winter when it's colder than cold out and we have a nice warm place to cut up deer.
  25. Wish granted, but a new organization RPEH(radical people for the execution of hunters) develops and since you got rid of PETA, you are the first one to die. I wish all the stresses in my life were gone.
