Well, I wasn't coyote hunting but this morning I saw 8 coyotes while deer hunting during our late winter antlerless only season here in IL and I just got mad at em, so I dropped this guy at 80 yards with my Knight Revolution Muzzleloader. He was quartering to when I shot and I hit him in the shoulder and it came out just behind and blew his heart to pieces. I was pretty excited even for shooting just a coyote. Pics!!! Sorry for the weird look in the first picture... I was squinting and trying to talk at the same time LOL:D

That is great to hear he is getting stronger everyday! I hope the docs are wrong about his prognosis on walking. Keep fighting Chris! We are all still praying for you and thinking about you.

Wow Steve that is a great story and great news. I am so happy to hear of this for you. Merry Christmas bud.

I work on a farm doing lots of different things and there have been times when I have been carrying a engine head or a chunk of wood or other things when I have been very glad I had my steel toed boots and there has been times that things have come very close to dropping above the steel toe and landing directly on top of my foot. I'm going to try them out for a little while and I may end up returning them, but so far they seem pretty comfortable.

Thank you for your inputs everyone! I went to our local Big R today and found some that are called Golden Retriever boots. They not only have a steel toe, they have a steel plate that comes up and covers the top of your foot as well. The stitching seems to look tough and be able to hold up well and put up with everything I put my boots through. They were a little pricey at $110, but if they hold together it will be well worth it. They are a comfortable boot, and like I said they are have some serious protection. Thanks again everyone, and here is a pic of them http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/met-guard-steel-toe-eh-boots-by-golden-retriever.aspx?a=477252 They look kinda goofy, but as long as they are comfortable and keep my feet protected, that's all that matters.

Ok, so I have worn Brahma 8" lace up steel toe work boots for the past 6 or 7 years. The last 2 pairs I have had have not lasted longer than 3 months each. So I switched and last time I bought a pair of Herman Survivor 8" lace up steel toe work boots. Well I was cleaning them up today and noticed that the sole is separating from the main part of the boot. I was wondering what boots y'all wear. I wear anywhere from a size 13-15, depending on the boot but I need something reasonably priced and definitely steel toe and 8" tall that is also going to last. I would be willing to spend $100 or so on a pair of boots if I knew that I was going to get 2 years of good work out of them. The last 3 pairs combined have cost about $130 and I have gotten a total of about 7 months of work so needless to say I'm not really happy with the performance. Any suggestions???

Well I wasn't gonna post in this thread, but reading kinda made me mad. The fact that you are accusing all of us of being fake on this forum is downright wrong and I think you are just trying to stir something up. As for your original post, I think all of us have bent the rules a little as far as shooting a few minutes early. I know there has been a time like Tominator said where all check stations were closed and we butchered the deer and never checked it in. Yes I have trespassed to recover deer or walk into a stand in order to have a better route to the stand. However, I don't think anyone on here as ever claimed to be perfect or be a perfect hunter. The fact that you have traveled and had experiences with unethical or illegal hunters does not mean you can generalize it to the entire hunting community. That is what PETA and other anti-hunting groups do in order to try to give all hunters a bad name. They take bad examples and generalize and get people to believe them. As a hunter, you should be ashamed of yourself for generalizing this to all hunters because of the reason I stated above. Another example of the fact that people don't claim to be a saint is look at the deer hunting threads where people have lost deer. They aren't lying. I had 2 occasions this year where I lost deer and posted about both of them on here telling people what I did and what I think I did wrong. I know I made a poor shot choice and I learned from it. Things like that are how young hunters who are on here learn about hunting and ethics. My dad always taught me to wait for a good shot angle and I got excited and took the shot on a bad angle. As for answering your questions, I'm not going to but I will say that yes, I have done taken a shot a little before or after shooting light and I will leave it at that. Again, I think you have had some bad hunting experiences and I'm sorry for that, but I don't think you should apply it to all hunters based on your experiences alone.

Wow that's a shame that a deer of that quality came to an end like that. Hope they throw the book at those dirtbags that poached him.

Congrats to you both!! I hope everything goes great with the delivery of your baby and you two live a long and happy life together!!

Muzzy season came and went. Passed on a big doe Friday morning, a 1.5 yr old 8 pt yesterday nite, and a half rack 2 point this morning. Saw 27 deer total in 3 days so not bad, today was slow though. It was near 40 all day and foggy, overcast and drizzly. I hope to get a little more bowhunting in this year, but things aren't looking good for me to get a buck and upgrade my score. I hope everyone's season is going good! -
Holy brow-tines Batman!!! That is an enormous deer!!! If that deer was taken legally in the wild that is awesome for whoever killed it. I have not heard anything about a deer like this that has been harvested, so I cannot tell you whether or not it's real.

Atta boy Benji!!! Don't let em stop ya!!! And congrats on the future signing of the house man!! That's awesome!:cool2:

Another bad weekend afield here. Only saw 2 deer on stand and they were Friday night. Had them within shotgun range but they were in brush and I didn't want to risk the shot. It was pretty thick. Spent about 20 hours on stand in different locations and only saw them. Next weekend is our muzzleloader season. I will be hunting the property where I killed my 9 pointer that is my profile pic last year on the last morning after a shotgun season similar to the one I had this year. It is a completely different farm than I have not hunted this year. There have been a few hunters on it during shotgun season, but it is over 500 acres and it has not been pressured hard. I hope my luck changes. I have 3 finals this week then I'm done for a month. They are calling for the weather to turn really cold and snowy this week. Maybe that will get the deer moving next weekend. -
I'm gonna have to say about a 3. I took 2 does early bow season but after that have not seen much action. Spent almost 20 hours on stand during our 1st shotgun season with only 11 deer sightings. Just have not seen much movement, although I have seen 2 shooter bucks this year, only 1 on stand. I hope my luck changes during this weekend, our 2nd shotgun season as we need venison and I just hope to see deer.

Wow Kyle, that is pretty unbelievable. I truly hope the Captain did not see the other idiot's driving or he really needs to go back to the academy. That sounds like a bogus ticket and since you have LE background and you have the LT agreeing with you already hopefully you can explain your side, they will listen and you can get this taken care of buddy.

That is a heckuva buck man!! Congrats. He looks bigger than 147 to me. Maybe it's just the pictures. No matter, he's a stud and congrats to you!!

Well it's gonna be cold and windy here in central IL for most of second season. I can't get out till Friday morning due to school, but I just wanted to wish everyone who is going to brave the coldest temps of deer season so far GOOD LUCK!!! I'll be back out trying to redeem myself for my poor shooting performances during 1st season. Good luck to all and stay safe out there!!

Awesome NS!!!!! Congrats man! That's a really nice looking buck!! -
Well went out this morning. Jumped her 3 times and eventually she ended up in a lake and swimming through the lake. Her front right leg is destroyed but she had run over 300 yards and then swam the lake so 3 of us decided she was probably gonna live to see another day. I don't know what happened. I am absolutely sick right now. I don't know what else to do or say, we lost her after she swam the lake.

Dang!!! That is a great buck buddy!! I'd put him upper 140s low 150s. Congrats on him!!

Well guys, wounded a nice 8 ptr yesterday morning, probably around 140", couldn't find it. Lost blood and couldn't find hide nor hair of where he went. Went out yesterday evening and this morning and didn't see anything. Went out tonight and saw 6, hit a nice doe, at least 1 lung. Jumped her twice and decided to back out and try to get her in the morning. Full story in the deer hunting room if you want to check it out. Hopefully I find her in the morning to ease my conscience a little bit. It won't be an upgrade but she'll be good eatin. -
Well, yesterday morning I wounded a beautiful 8 ptr, probably around 140". We tracked him for 200 yards, lost blood, did a grid search could not find a trace of him or where he went. I was disgusted with myself then. Went back out to a different spot last night and didn't see anything. Went out this morning to where I wounded that buck and didn't see anything either. Well tonight, just before end of legal shooting light there were 6 deer come out into the field 108 yards away(used a rangefinder). Finally a nice doe stepped into my shooting lane and I decided to try the shot. I was using a muzzleloader so by the time the smoke cleared I could not see her, nor do I know how she reacted to the shot. However, I sat in the stand for a few minutes and thought I could hear her huffing, like she had blood in her lungs. Well I went back to the truck and met dad and we went and looked for blood and sure enough I had hit her. We found decent blood in the field and followed it to the edge of the timber. We then heard a bunch of crashing running away but heard one stay pretty close, pretty soon I heard that huffing again. Well I told Dad let's back out, go home get some better lights and the 4-wheeler and come back in about an hour. So we did. We get back and trailed her about 50-80 yards into the timber and lost blood. So I circled ahead to see if I could find any and I ended up jumping a deer and I think it was the same one. It would only run about 20 yards then bed down again. It did this a couple of times when I backed off and went back to Dad. The deer was slightly quartering away at the shot and like I said, I'm not sure how she reacted due to the smoke. There was good blood and she had coughed up a clot in a creek when she jumped down into it. After I backed off of her trail and we decided to back out and go get her in the morning, we never heard her move again. My question is, do you think she will be laying there in the morning, or do you think I'm gonna lose my second deer in two days?? I hate having this feeling and knowing that that deer could be suffering due to me sucks.

Slow opening morning of shotgun season for me. Saw a spike buck and a doe fawn in 4.5 hours in the tree in this morning. Headed back out in a few minutes to try my luck again!
