  1. I hope this is not too late but give a look at Charles Daily, they have a sweet li’l 20ga Auto-loader that is a dream to shoot. I used my boy’s after coming home from the litterbox and before my surgery for my shooting shoulder; what a great teal season that was.
  2. Call Lee and they should fix it, my dad his back and got it back new. That said, I love my Rock Chucker and use it all the time. Colorado bob; just using my 30-06 to justify this: 1lb powder $25 ($19.46 per 100), 100 primers $3.80, 100 bullets $26.30 and 100 new Win brass $63 for a total cost of $112.56 per 100 rounds. That is not a lot less then getting the cheep stuff now (but I am now shooting preamiom rounds, loaded just for that gun at about $50 rounds a box) but then you take the $63 off on the next 8/10 loads and now you see that the cost of the reloading equipment pay's for itself soon, if you shoot much. Now do that same thing for all center fire rifles in your safe and it really adds up. With myself, 3 kids and wife shooting, I can't afford not to reload. Also, how many off the shelf rounds from Waly-world will your gun shoot under 1/2" with? Oh ya, you don't save money by reloading, you just shoot a lot more and become a lot better shot.
  3. What a real eye opener, I know it is always hard to see that things can always be worse and walk away with a new prospective in life. I know Tim is a class act and will keep your family and new friend in our prayers. Don’t know if Tim Remembers me or my family (from what I have seen of him, I bet he does) but I meet Tim at Cabela’s in WV just before I left for Iraq and he really impressed my boys and they still talk about that trip. They think he is better the Michael Waddel (SP?).
  4. I will be out for a great morning pass shoot on geese and then Mommy and I will be out for a morning dove hunt. Boys are looking forward to getting out there and smoking some birds (with a gun and smoker also)LOL.
  5. Glad you are looking out for Mommy. that should get you out of a lot of tight one's. good luck.

    45

The Rock Island Armory is the gun I go to all the time for my shooting: I got a single stack 1911 for $275, put about $65 in upgrade’s (18lb slid spring, trigger, grip spring, tie firing pin, firing pin spring and such). First time at the range, shot it against my dad’s and cousins Kimbers and did not outshot Pop with his but did as good as his and outshot my cousin with his, he also outshot his Kimber with my RIA Also, it will take about any aftermarket 1911 parts will fit the RIA. I was looking in the shotgun news and they have a double stack (14+1) that will fit my hands great, for about $500.
  7. I have made some good shots but some that I am proudest of would be the 3 targets I shot with my Sav 116 .300 Win Mag: 200yds, 5 shots and .378”, .388” and .371”. I also made 5 shots at a silhouette at 1,409M with a SR-25 using 175gr, Millett 4x16x56mm, Sierra Match Kings at 2,660fps. Hitting it 2nd,4th and 5th shots.
  8. I have a T-3 Lite in .300 WSM and that is my go to gun for deer hunting now, Mommy got it for me when I was in the litterbox a few years ago. My dad got one in the .25-06 (ss) and cosine has the same gun I have. All are shooting under ½” at 100yds. As for the 7mm Rem Mag, you will love it; for whitetail deer, I use a 120gr HP Hornady at 3,300 fps and it drops them in their tracks from 80ft to over 280yds.
  9. Will do John, been going through the same thing for most of the past year myself and it is a pain and not just in the back.
  10. Thanks for the welcome, been a long spell but I did not forget about my friends here. You all did a lot to help get me through when I had time to check out the site. Now that the Dr said I can start getting back into shape, I am doing the best I can and hope to make up for the hunting seasons I missed. Terry, I may swing by if time permits, mother’s day weekend; got my team going on a trout fishing weekend then. Really looking forward to this, have not seen most for a spell. Again, thanks for the Welcome.
  11. It has been a spell but I am back ware I have the time and the access to getting on here without it cutting into my other commitments. I see a lot of the old timers are still here and a lot of newbie’s also. Well, for the next few months or so, I hope to catch up with what is going on in the real world. I may not have got in and said much but I do try to get in when I can and see how things are going in the real world.

    My Boys Weekend

What a weekend had my 2 youngest sons at the State 4-H Fair (Their first year eligible) and what a time it was: Lil Bit took Birds of Ohio and did very well for his first try, scoring: 3 exhalents, 2 Very Good and a Good on it. That was a lot harder class then I would have ever dreamed of but I am very proud of what he did. When he was being judged, Mommy got a call from the Judges at the Arts and Crafts fair and was told he also took 2nd place in his age group for paintings! Sunny Buck took Shotgun and did very well, scoring all exhalents, was hoping he would place but did not. I know how much shooting means to him and will see what he is taking next year. This is Sunny Buck shooting his Charles Daily 20ga Youth Pump at the 4-H Shooting club: He really surprised a lot of people with how well he can shoot clays. He had better have, after all the boxes of pigeons and shells he has shot at the house! LOL Part of his project was a scrapbook that he demonstrated disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of his Charles Daily 12ga Auto Loader. He uses it for goose and duck hunting and a lot of clay pigeons also. LOL Well, if the Doctors will let me; I am going to take leave in early September and see if I can’t get Sunny Buck out for some early goose hunting. May be the only hunting I get to do this year.Had to brag a little.

    Why We Are At War

Crazyleqz, Doing my job, I guarantee your right to say what you would but I have to ask you this: where do you get this 90% from? I work with the troops all the time that have been (been again and again), going over or coming home and it is a resounding 99%+(even though I have only talked with 2 people that said we was doing the wrong thing there) in support of what we are doing there? If the war was going so bad, why would units that are getting ready to go back is turning people away from going with them? I know of a unit that turned away more volunteers to go with them, and then they actually took with them? (This was not a small unit either) I have friends that are amputee’s that are looking for ways of going back to “do their duty!” Having been there and working with the Iraqi people, they do want us there, they want what we have: Freedom. Cutting our losses as you put it is snatching defeat from the mouth of Victory. Disgracing the sacrifices that every trooper has given for serving in Iraq, belittling the sacrifices the family has give: the night’s mothers have rocked little ones to sleep, the cold nights with an empty bed, fear with every passing day that this may be the one and everything else they have to endear. Sorry, I will get off my soap box but I would like to know how you know more troopers that were there then most and also talk with some of this 90% you talked about. I have lost a lot of friends there and I am ready to go back as soon as they ask me.
  14. Home for me, got a lot of time to make up for this year.
  15. ETexBow, That is a great area to live, have the best of both worlds. I have a farm just out of Belpre and do a lot of hunting in WV. I also have a lease down in Wirt Co (about 45 min from P-burg), it cost $120 a year and there is about 8,000 ac (I think that was what they said last Meeting) they have it set so there is 1 member per every 40 ac. As for doing the deer management: that is a lot harder up here but not out of the question. Most fokes up here go to WV for Numbers of deer and OH for size of the racks. Ohio has a lot of land that is open and I do a lot of waterfowl hunting on it. I have so much privet land to hunt up here that I could not hunt it all in a season. As for the schools: Warren High is a great all around system (wish my kids was still going to it) Belpre is nice but again it is part of the city. Parkersburg and Parkersburg South are good schools. The biggest thing about living in Oh over WV is the Tax and Auto Ins. Liability Ins for my Wife's Mozda 626 and Jeep sport is less then my dads Ford Ranger. Also, out of state Lic for youth (under 18 the day they get them) in WV is $25 with the stamps you have to have with the lic, that will let them kill a Buck with a rifle, deer with a bow and ML, 2 spring and 1 fall turkey's, small game hunting, trapping and fishing lic. (don't need a fishing lic though till they are 16) This year, your out of state Lic was $111 and that let you kill a buck with a Rifle but you have to get stamps for ML and Bow, you also have to get your doe stamps on top of that. As a Res of WV, you can get a Sportsmans Lic which will let you get a Deer with a Bow and ML, buck with a rifle and 2 spring and 1 fall turkey, Trapping and fishing lic for $25. As a Res of Ohio, you lic is $19 hunting, $19 fishing, $24 each deer (only one Buck a year, any way you kill it) up to 3, plus this year in this area you could get up to 3 more doe tags for $15 each. You also can get up to 2 spring and a fall turkey tag for $24 each. As for the sproting goods: Boons is the a great bow shop, with a 3D range, there are some more if you drive about an hour or so. Novac's out by DuPont is a great gunsmith also and you have Cains (up at Boaz on Rt 14 just out of Williomstown) is a great ML shop. Shoot me a PM if you like and will see if I can help you more... Frank
  16. Some times you get lucky and a gun ready to shoot like that, then you look at the .22-250 Rem Classic V HB I got off of a guy. He had shot 7 boxes of shells and had went from 1/2" to 3 1/2" groups, at the time the gun new was going for $500, I got scope, Redfield mounts and rings, Timmly Trigger, sling, 7 boxes empty and 3 boxes full loaded ammo for $200. Took me 3 days cleaning and going back to break in the bbl, 2 months after that, saw the guy at the range and was cutting 3/8" 5 shot groups at 200 yds. He asked me what I had done and told him all I did was clean the bbl and how long it took me. Nice thing about it: most of the time you can go back and clean the bore back down and start out with the Break in, sense most people don't do this and that copper will just keep pilling up in there, clean it good and start all over... Frank
  17. I would have left this alone but I have to add, this past Mon, when he had his press release he said: any Questions about "Michigan and this is over?" what would that tell ya??? Yes, I call the schools and his honer into Question. He lied out right and that is all that can be sead. Yes, I hold my word way above what you all would or could have done by this. As far as letting the othere coach go, I would have had to seen what the greavance commity would have said about that. As a military man, I must stand on what I say: I hold everyone to that same commitment. If you all are willing to take this lying, stilling scum bag, then so be it. You all must be really pulling strings to get someone like this. I would never let anyone like that around me let along, hang any hope on him. You all can have the tash like this, all I can say is: I am glad we can get rid of people like this from my unit before they can really get us in deep kempcy. Again, piking apart what I said: really, no battles with the witless. Just keep your type out of the litter box or the demagods have wone and I have lost a lot of good friends for nothing. A friend from VietNam allways said: don't worry as much about the enemy out there, worry about the enemy that is right here...

    7mm-08

Forgot, it is supper lite on recoil and the only gun othere then the .257 Rob that I have ever seen the bullet hit a deer or yote in the scope!!! I would say that about 13 of the 20 deer I hit with it I have seen the bullet hit (the one I lost was one and that helped me with the thought about the shoulder blade). When you think of the 7MM-08 Rem, think of what you would use a .270 Win or .280 Rem for and then use the 7MM-08 Rem there and you have a good job, with a li'l less recoil. One last thing, with the right bullets (this again helps in reloading) I would not think again about letting mommy or one of the boys use it for moose or elk. I am also talking 250 yds with 160 gr bullets.

    7mm-08

I got a M-70 classic FW 7MM-08 Rem, for mommy when we got my evil twin home 9 years ago. Sense then I have killed 19 deer with it and lost 1, all 1 shots and the 19 dropped with in sight of ware I shot them. I reload so I am pushing a Hornady 120 gr HP at just under 3,000 fps. This load has passed through all the deer that I got and with the exceeption of 3 shoulder shots, the rest was in the ribs. The one I lost: was about 140 yds away, 300 ft below me and going up a bank away from me, I thought I would bake its back and put the cross hairs between its shoulders blaids. I was off hand and think I pulled it, gun went off, buck flipped back words and slide's about 50' down the bank and did not move. About 30 sec after watching it through the scope, did not see anything moving, I get up and at the same time, it got up and was gone??? I found what makes me beleave that I hit it on the outside of the shoulder blade and the bullet followed it down and outside the ribs??? So once again, I must say that the gun/bullet did not let me down, I just did not place it ware I was wanting too. btw, this same load is great on yote's also... I think I see a new Tikka T-3 7MM-08 in my safe soon also...
  20. Glad to see that there is no honer in some of the people from Michigan, ware I come from: if your word is no good then you are not much of a man and if that is what MU stands for then I am glad to have nothing to do with it. I sign something, I stand by it. I will not get into a battel of wits with the unarmed, Just calling it like I see it, do you really like the idea of having a lying, cut and run for the dollar coach??? Well, if you do, have at him, I would take a 0-12 with a team and coach that gives all to the school and state then have to be looking out everytime Rodriquez went to a new school to play and hope he did not get a better offere.
  21. I was a MI fan and so was 3 of my 4 (Mommy is also a Buckeye fan) sons when it come to OSU VS MU, but that will not be again. Heck he just signed a new deal with WVU, MU must be in very bad shape that they would take someone who would not even stand by his commitment. To me you can have the Lying li'l prick, nothing as bad as this again MU but I hope he can't coach a win there and you all see what type of trash you get with a liar... BTW, till this, I all ways called them the "Butteye's" not again. My 2 favorite teams are WVU and who ever whamps Michigan.
  22. I hope that all my brothers and sisters have a great Christmas and Better New Year, as we take some time to share the holidays with our family (if we can be at home). Let us all take a min and say a prayer for all the ones that will be doing their duty so we can enjoy this and all the time we have free. As Vets, we know what we are called to do and do it with pride but I ask that you take a little of your time this season and let the familys of our troops know just how much we are in debt for there duty also. I can not tell anyone who has not been there, just how much their Letters, Calls, Boxes, Pic's, Love and Support means but it is the Vet that gets all the praise and so many forget the role the family makes. Also, let us not forget the ones that are still with us, that gave us their service in Nam, Korea, WWII and any other place that they have been sent to serve. I am remined of this every Wen morning that I find myself at Wal-Mart: there is a WWII Marine that served from Iwo to the end. He erned the Silver and 3 Bronze Stars and 3 Purple Hearts. I have set down with him at times when I am not so cought up in my world and just the 10 min or so does not cost me anything but I can see it means the world to him now. The next time you see a Vet with a "WWII Vet" hat or a Nam jacket, just take a sec to say thanks, it will not cost much but will mean more then you will know till someone thanks you for your service. Thank you Brothers and Sisters may God bless you as you have blessed us. Only 2 people have offered to give their life for you with nothing attached: God and Our U.S. Troops, can't you find a sec to say thanks...

    What a Bummer...

Thanks everyone, things are looking a lot better today: still hurts but I have not took anything for the pain but OTC stuff. Li'l thanks, Dr told me the same thing and have been working on all that. 19, look down in the waterfowl thread for my post on Mommy's and MDT's first duck. I took the boys and a 7 month old pup out first, so I thought I would not need a gun with my hands full like that...LOL Frank

    What a Bummer...

I have been looking forward to this weekend all year and when my evil twin got his Hunters Safety class, made it look even better... Well, after duck hunting last weekend, I got what looked like a infected hair on my upper leg and popped it with out a thought. Mon it was still there and popped it again, got up Tue and it was bigger, so popped it again. When I got in Wen night it was about the size of my thumb and very hard, thinking it was a boil now, soaked it in eppsons salts and used cold packs also. Did not sleep at all Fri morning and called Dr. on Fri, it was 6"X2 1/2" that was very hard and a red spot about 10" around it. Dr would not lance it but said: "Do not pop it, if this is that MSRA that has killed 2 kids in Ohio the last 2 weeks, you need to get it treatted and let it open up on it's own if the Meds don't stop it!" I have had a few things that hurt me more then this but it has been very few things, I will keep you all up on what is going on but if you have any "Pimpel" that don't look and act right, get it checked... I am looking at, once it opens up, getting a drain put in and having it packed and may be out of the hunt for a few weeks. It has been responding to my meds but I have been taking my Vicotion to keep the pain down. Glad my boys are such good sports, they was looking forward to this youth only doe season in WV as much as I was but soon as they got the word as to how bad my leg is, they did not think twice about staying home... Frank
  25. My wife got me a T-3 in .300 WSM for my birthday in 06. I love everything about it. I had it to the range last week and shot 5 rounds at 100 yds and it looked like one .400" hole... got to love the Tikka. I am reloading the Sierra 165 gr HPBT and it is doing great. BTW: Dad has a T-3 SS .25-06 and shot about 200 90 to 100 gr reloads and fac rounds and could not get it to shoot, got some Fed 117 gr fac loads and 3 shots was touching at 100 yds. He got on the web site and asked them about this and they told him that: The Tikka is set up for bullets on the upper end of the Cal loading... so look at the 140's and 150 and you should get what you are looking for...
