Brad, the big thing like you said, is ware she puts the bullet. I know that a 55 gr will do it, I have seen a few deer put down with 1 shot of 55 FMJ's (not something I would sujest) and out to and maby past 100yds. I have a friend that will only use his M-4 with 62 gr military and has killed 7 deer and only one took 2 shots, all was pass throughs and in the chest. Like said, I do not like this round for deer but I have killed 2 with head shots at 30/40 yds. I like the .300's myself but have 3 young son's and like you, if I had to, would be using a .223 to get the baby out there when he is ready... I will say this, I got a Rossi for my 12 year old a few years ago in .410 and I do not even like the recoil from it, now my 12, 9 and 8 year old have the NEF Handy Rifles and the extra heft of 1 or 2 lbs really help a lot. My 12 and 9 year old will be going to WV this weekend with their .243 I know it will be a great time... You & your Dad are the one that have to make the call on if she is ready for this with this gun, best of luck.

Had our Y Bridge NWTF (Zanesvill Ohio) JAKES day event this past Sat and even though we had a great time before the awards, was a great walk back to the truck after that... Took my 3 youngest sons and mommy for our 2nd time and I know we will be back and hope I can make it next year. The fishing Turny was not that good, boys did not get a fish but had a good time trying to catch the minows by the bank. Then it was off to the altament Kids lunch: Pizza and Hi-C... They had for stations set up for the kids, Turkey shoot (with a 1100 Rem 20 Ga), Crossbow shoot sponsered by 10 Point, Shain Hendershot (2007 NWTF National Champ) showed them how to make a mouth call and use it and last but not least, Compound bow shoot. The Turkey shoot was broken down to 3 age groups, 6-9 (had 2 sons in this group), 10-12 (Watash was in this group) and 13-17. Watash took 2nd place and got a trophy for it. My evil twin (9) was smoking about this... In the door prizes, Li'l bit and Watash got a Zebco 404 rod and reel outfit, my evil twin got a camo folding set. All 64 kids got something for a door prize and the smiles was priceless. I was really glad to see all the young ladys out there this year, about a 20% increas over last year. Then it was the big door prize's 2 Charles Daily Youth Turkey Camp 20 Ga Semi-Autos, 2 Bike's and a youth 10 Point Crossbow. I wish I could have got a pic of Watash (12) when they called his No# for the 2nd shotgun... I thought Mommy was going to Pee herself when it hit her that he got it!!! Again, my evil twin was really smoking by now and well, it was all in fun and a supper great time for all. Just thought I would pass this on and hope that if you know of a young one, you might take a look at getting them into something like this. The $5 fee was to get the kids their T-Shirts and everthing else was donated for the kids. Remeber they are the Future of Hunting and Fishing...

He is doing great, I may see about posting some more pic's soon. We hit a wall 2 weeks ago and had to go back on some traing I thought we had set good but everything is going a lot smother now. This dog is doing more to train me in how to do it then I think I am training him. I am using www.fetchpup.com to help me with his training, they are more into slow, li'l or no punishment training then the E-Coller and force fetch but they also help you use this metheads if needed.

When I first got home early this month, I started him about 100 yds from the boys shooting .22 rifles, Mommy had him on the leed and before I knew it, he was right there looking at what we was shooting at. with in a week, he would come out to ware we shoot clays (in my back yard) and was walking arond us shooting them and looking at the birds going down range. As for the birds, I am trying to get my hands on some pidgens but no luck. I have to go south next week so may stop and pick up some pheasents to work with. He dose love the pheasent wings I got from Sprotsmans warehouse.

This is my new English Lab Tank: he is 4 1/2 months old and this is the first time in the water and his first retrieve. Aug 25, Tank in my yard at 5 months and holding a hefty 55lbs... Tank has been a dream to work with and the way he is working, I just hope that I can live up to his work on shooting ducks and geese...

Prayers on the way.

I have some friends on another web site that are looking to take a Disabled Vet hunting but are having a hard time getting in touch with someone like that who would like to hunt. I pointed them to the DAV but they are getting STONEWALLED like anyone else talking to the DAV. Anyone who has any info that would help, I would be happy to pass this info on. I know 1 of the hunts is in Tx and Pa, don't know what other states they are looking at now. This is just a group of good people (like here) that would like to give just a little more to the one's that gave a lot.

Well, he went and did it. 27th Nov 06 about 945 am Sunny Buck was in a treestand with Pop (my Dad) and the big doe walks up. He set his site's on her and the ball goes through the 3rd rib and out the off shoulder... Pop only stepped in to finish her off do to the fact that she was only 2 steps from the line and we can not go over there... Weapon used was a copy of the Hawkens .50 cal, .490-190 gr patched round ball with 60 gr of powder... He is in school today and wish I could have been there to hear how this story grows... Will post a pic latter. Oh ya, talked to Proud last night and his party of 11 killed 9 deer (4 bucks/5 doe's) though he did not get one yet... I may not have been there with him when he got his first deer but I can not think of anyone else that I would like to have seen Sunny Buck with for his first deer, yes even myself. Sunny Buck in Named after Pop and now they share more then just a name. I hope and pray that they have many more seasons togeather. Sunny Buck is 8 and Pop is 65.

Re: 300 short mag I have 2 .300 WSM's and a .300 Win Mag and would not give one up for the other. My Sav. .300 Win Mag has more felt recoil then the M-70 Supper Shadow or my Tikka T-3 Lite, the Sav still has a lot less felt recoil then all other .300 Win Mags I have shot. I am getting 3,109 fps with 74.8 gr of powder with a 165 gr Sierra HPBT out of my Sav. .300 Win Mag, I am getting 3,098 fbs with 66.0 gr of the same powder and bullet in my M-70. I love them both (.300 Win Mag and .300 WSM) and the only thing I would do to the Tikka would make it a short action but the gun is doing great, I have 2 shot groups with 3 rounds in the same hole at 100 yds. I need to work on my trigger finger some more and get it down to all 5 rounds in one hole.

I did not get to get on here much from the box but when I did, my friends was all ways here and sent a lot of emails to let me know that they did not forget me. Yes, I will add that this is a great group... Thanks, you don't know just what it means to us...

Re: Family needs Your Prayers... Thanks everyone, I can not tell you all just how much this means to us...

I realy need all the help and prayers we can get: I was got up early this morning with the news that my uncle passed away today. He was a great man and a WWII Vet. He will be greatly missed but the pain he has been through the lost 10 years, I am greatful that he is with Grandma and the rest of the family now. Now the hardest part: Early this afternoon; we got word that my wife's Sister (4th kid in 5, Mommy is the baby) and her best friend till I came into her life, was killed in a plain crash last night, just south of Pittsburg Pa. She was doing what she loved best in life and that was flying. the family is all togeather now and we are all in shock over it. The health of her family was bad before this and this has them right on the edge.

Re: Thanks Michael Waddell I can not think of very many people on TV that I would drive my family a hour to see. I wish that there was more shows out there that was geared more for kids and not just killing the biggest thing out there. I know this may sound corny but the way Realtree goes all out for the kids and wheeling sportsman events, is what keeps me watching the show and the family realy likes it also. This is one of the few shows that has the same values on the outdoors as I have and wish to show my family.

Re: Passed my PT test I have one here in the next few weeks and not looking forward to it, I do not think about the pushups and set ups (I max them most of the time) it is the run that kills me. Last one I took I got 264 out of 300. would have had 270 but a "friend" got me laughing at the end of my set ups and it is hard to do set ups laughing... I will be glad when it is over and I know you are glad it is done.

Got to Buckeye Outdoors today early and then went to eat so the line would go down, stood in line with the family for about 10 min to meet Michael Waddell and when I got the family up there, it was like we was the only people there for him. He saw my bracelet for one of the men that my unit lost and I told him about Gene, He was moved and said he was going to have the next hunt as a memoral for Gene. I gave him the bracelet and he put it on right then. My 4 sons talked about him all the way home and till bed time. I just wish I did not forget to get the camera, would have loved to had a pic with him and the family. Mike, thanks for all you do for our sport and kids.

Re: 7 mm-08 backup I would in a heart beat. Get a good bullet and it will do anything that a .270 win will and that is what most say is min for Elk. When I get to take Mommy out west for Elk, that is what she will be going with... Know your gun and what it will do and keep it in that range and you will be fine.

I have been looking at the snippets from the horrer move "Open Season" and now Burger King is passing out with there Kids meals Toys for Open Season. I think as hunters: We need to send Burger King the message that we as hunter will not support this and not only stop eating there but we need to call the local Burger Kings and head office. Everything we can do will help...

Re: 7mm-08 I got one for my wife and have used it a few times my self. The 120s are great on the deer we have shot.

Re: Trained and ready to fight Hey Gunny, Wish you the best and God's Speed over there. I know you will do good, got to see your boys in action and I know they are putting the Scunion down. I am so glad to be home now and I will keep you and all in my thoughts and Prayers. Glad it will be cooling down soon, that 138 was bad. See ya back safe on this side of the pond. Luck Bro.
