Frank.

    Country Church

Re: Country Church Yep, Half of the 40 or so people in church are ken of my wife, Boots are the norm (Sunday blue jeans are also) No sheep around but the Calves are all around (2 Deary and are beef farms in the family). The Church I went to before was only about 25 people and all lived with in 20 min drive or 45 min walk.
  6. Re: Sabot or Powerbelt I shot one deer with a sabot and the shot was good but my friend killed it a half mile away and when I tracked it to him, he gave me the bullet. It was a 40 yd shot and did not even pass through it. I never shot a sabot again and gave the gun away. Now that I have seen the power belts kill deer, I will say they are great: the 6 deer I have seen killed with a PB, all had good pass throughs and if they did not drop there, only went 20 yds. They was 348 gr Copper HPs in a .54 cal. If your gun shoots them good, I would say to use them. Frank.

    yes

Re: yes Sorry to hear you are getting hooked on smoke, have fun.
  8. Re: Powerbelts The 3 in-lines that was give to me ( I like my side lock but someone thinks I need to get with the times?) Like them alot, my son has killed 2 nice bucks with the power belts and Dad has killed some deer also with them and they work great from what I have seen. Most of the deer acted like they was Pole-axed.
  9. Re: Getting ready for fall Looks like most of my work will be getting my family ready for this year. Got my 10 year old son a .243 handy rifle and need to get him out as much as I can so he will be ready for WV youth hunt in Nov (I think that is the first one) and would like to take him Thanksgiving, may be the only day I get to hunt this year but that will be great if the 2 boys get a deer and the 3rd one gets to go with us.
  10. Re: Venting for my wife Makes me love living on the farm even more, I do wish that my boys had some kids to play with other then family that may stop by on the weekends.

    Buckmasters?

Re: Buckmasters? Now that is what I would like to see, setting on the ground and a slim jim sticking out his mouth with a Rem. ADL and Simmons scope, with his 10 year old son and a .243 handy rifle when a spike comes over the ridge (not to a bait site) and the kid gets his first deer. Daddy may even take a doe.
  12. Re: North American Hunting Club I have been a life member sense about '93 and got alot of the stuff in the mail and then told them that sense I did not order this would keep it as a gift and that has stopped, I got alot of great friends there and been to a few GT's and that has been the best thing about the "CLUB" Wish they would bring back the old Chat room though, the new one no one can get on.
  13. Re: Help me decide on a bullet to use They said here and I will back them up, if it an't broke don't fix it. But if you are looking for what others like then set me down for Sierra's Hollow Points in there Game King line, that .30 Cal. 165 has yet to let me down on deer in the 31 years I have used it. Frank.
  14. Re: Why a 3x9x50? Maby, I have used a scope so long that I don't fall into the "can't pick a deer out in the brush" I keep my power set as low as I can when moving and with the big lins on 6X it looks to me like a 32 on 3X but I have been using a scope on all my rifles now for 38 years and don't think about it, I just do it. Frank.
  15. Re: Why a 3x9x50? Well, I will put my $.02 in, I did not go that way for years thinking that the 40mm was all that was needed and then Dad gave me a 3.5X10X45 Bush I think and I loved it and now have a 6X20X50 Simmons on my 7MM Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag and .300 WSM and will not give them up. I also have a 4X12X50 Simmons on my wifes 7mm-08 and I think it has a better view then any of the High pirced one's that I have seen. If the Army would let me put a 6X20X50 Simmons on my M-24 I would pay for it out of my pocket and donate the Leopul 4.5X14X40 to the M-4. Just my thoughts on this. Frank.
  16. Re: .223 or .243? johnf, Jimmy is 44" tall and will go about 45 lbs, sorry though I forgot he is 7 now. He loves the thing, I put the gun on the sand bag and with a scope on it he put 14 out of 15 rounds in a 2" block at 100 yds the first round was at 11 and 8" out. He takes it out hog hunting with me, has not got one yet but still looking for one to stay there long enough, may get his some shooting sticks. He can shoot setting down OK just takes time. Frank.

    WOW!!!!

Re: WOW!!!! That is what I like the most about this place. I don't send alot of e-mails out but did to Bill and what I got back was very touching. I am so glad that there is a show on that I can let my 4 boys see and not have to keep telling them that this is not how Daddy, Mommy and Pop hunts. Frank.

    My Dog Died!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: My Dog Died!!!!!!!!!!! This has been a bad year for my familys dogs and beleave me, I do feel for your loss. You can not replace a dog but you can get one to give the love too. Frank.
  19. Re: .223 or .243? johnf, this is the 2nd youth handy rifle I have, the other is in a .223 and my 6 year old has laid claims to it. I was looking at getting something with a li'l more uuuumph to it and still light recoil. Dad has me looking at the 95 gr Belistick tip but it is very hard for me to get away from Sierra bullets. I have used the 85 gr HPBT and loved it for me but will look at the 100 gr SBT for Zac. AJ, I don't care for the thumb hole stocks my self, I have a Seal Skin sock that I cut the top off of and put dry rice in the foot area, ran a bead of silicone and sowed it shut the over lapped it and sowed it again. Set this under the grip and a li'l squeeze and the site will go up, lighten up on the grip and it comes down. That is one of the best things I got in my first sniper school and us it all the time. Frank.
  20. Re: Need Advice on a limited budget The big thing that I will say is the base and rings are the most improtent thing there is. I put the money into them and have cheap scopes doing great. For the base I would go with a single Millit base and Millet rings. For the money you can not beet them and putting twice the money into them don't help. Look at www.Riflescopes4less.com www.midwayusa.com , look up cheeper then dirt or Gear guied. The big thing is don't skimp on the rings and base. The army gives me Leupol to shoot but I shoot Simmons on all my guns that I buy the scopes for.
  21. Re: .223 or .243? Well, Zac just got his birthday gift today (he will be 11 in Nov) I got a great deal on a wood stocked handy rifle .243 just what I was looking for him. I will be home Thanksgiving day and hope that he will get his first deer then, what a going away present for me! Hope that this will hook him bad, he has been up in the air about hunting.
  22. Re: What do you think about this scope?? I have to go with PA, in the last 35+ years I have seen all scopes go bad. Heck my cusin got a string of Leupolds that he could not get sighted in on his .300 Win. Mag. Rem. Sendero. With in a 6 week time he had the one he got from the store and 3 more sent to him from Leupold blow up before he got the last one to work. I have Simmons on all the guns that I have got the scope for, on my Mags I have a 6X20X50 and the 7mm Rem. Mag has over 4000, the 300 Win Mag has about 4400 and the 300 WSM has 504 under with not one hitch. Best Group was a 3 shot from the 7mm 100 yds that you could just see ware 1 round cut high and the 3rd low right and did not add more then about .08" to the first hole. If the Army would let me, I would take the Leupold off my M-24 and put one of my Simmons on it. Frank.
  23. Re: PC Terminology Evolution I do beleave that with all the dang PC crap today, we are setting our kids up to fall flat on there face. Realy, who has a boss that is going to codgel them when they are not doing there work becose there fellings are hurt??? I come from the old school and there was not PC in the WV schools that I went to and when we did something we got the Board on our back side. We aslo stood up to bullys and got a black eye but that would stop it for the most part and we had pried in our teams and showed it. Heck there was a high school team a few years ago here in Ohio that lost a game (they was winning) when they would not stop running a lap around the goal post after a touchdown. This is something they had been doing sense the 1920's. I don't beleave that Dr. Spock knows more about raising kids then I do, his son killed his self and so far my 4 don't like alot of what I make them do but they do it and I get people telling me all the time about how well behaved they are, they even open doors up for ladys when I am not around to tell them too. The PC croud need to work on them selfs and leave the rest of us alone. Frank. PS,JMHO
  24. Re: A real front stuffer!!! May be in the Movie\'s too Thanks Phil, Will talk to the Maj about that next stripe. Will see if we can get some pics of the filing the weekend of the 29th. BTW, that is a Cook&Brothers .58 carbin that Paws has at eye level. Frank.
  25. Re: Update on a Marine Thanks for sharing, Hope he gets home soon. Thinking about our Troops daily. Frank.
