That was his O face. Oh, Oh, Oh...

I'm contemplating whether i'm going out to go get a wet butt this eve. Its been raining steadily for about 12 hrs here without any relief till after dark. I'm dying to get in the stand though.

Nice job Todd, cool videos. There hasn't been squat moving around me lately. I'm off the next 4 days so i'm going to hit it hard. May try out some public ground a little further south than me too. Thinking about getting out the rattle bag too.

I've shot numerous deer straight through the boiler room that didn't bleed worth a darn, but they've all been dead within 80 yds. Depending on angle they don't bleed until the chest cavity fills up and by then they're stone dead. If you truly got her in the vitals she's balled up somewhere close. But like someone said, single lung hits are a pain to recover and the deer can go a long way, many aren't recovered. Also i've had deer bleed good for the first half of the recovery distance then nothing the last half. I attribute this to a death run. When they sense they're done their adrenaline pumps up and go on one last run til its lights out. At a high rate of speed blood doesn't accumulate and is hard to follow.

I've used all kinds of scents throughout all phases of the rut in past years and i would say any of them "worked". They may stop deer long enough for a shot, but i think i see less deer when using scents. I think it alarms smarter deer. I have used Deer Dander as a cover scent in the past, but very sparingly and it seemed to work ok. As luck would have no one carries it around me anymore for some reason.

Nice doe. I've thought about rigging my old mountain bike up to make my long hikes a little easier. Did you do anything special to yours?

Good luck! I know I'd rather hunt in the snow. I've had too many miserable experiences hunting in the soaking rain.

I killed a doe this weekend down in the Shawnee national forest. The pic i have of it is pretty crappy because all i had was my phone. Considering we were a mile away from the nearest road with an all uphill travel. We skinned her and quartered to get her out of the woods. I should get another one before long. But if by end of season I don't i'll post the crappy pic and enter her. But like i said I shouldn't have much of a problem matching or beating her.

Didn't have much luck. I saw a handful of deer mostly small bucks not worth taking. i did shoot a nice fox squirrel though on my way out of the woods the other morning. A 100 grain muzzy puts em down pretty quick. Didn't have to blood trail him too far. He was perched up on a fallen branch. Got a total passthrough but never found my arrow. I guess he got the last laugh. I'm heading down to the Shawnee Natl forest tomorrow for a weekend hunting trip. If the rain clears out i should get some shots. If not i'm sure my cooler will be lighter on the way home;)

I've only been out twice and haven't seen a deer. Which is typical for my property this early in the season. In a week or two I'll be seeing a lot more. I get off work at 5 this morning and plan on hitting the woods. Wish me luck. Still no team name. How about BoneHeads? Has that been picked yet?

Awesome buck Todd! See we don't need a stinkin team name to score?! I made it out the last 2 mornings but all i saw were turkeys. My next day off is monday so i'll try again. Good luck to all.

Checking in. Looks like we've got a solid team. Oct 1st is our opener. I'm usually good for a doe early on then I try to settle in on a buck. I've got potential for some nice deer. Good luck to all and I look forward to seeing some killshots soon.

If everything is in tune your broad heads, no matter what kind, should be very close to your field points. Most people who shoot fixed need to tune your BH's to your arrow. That means spin testing them and making an adjustment to make sure your BH is straight on your arrow. If the ferrule is bent at all or your insert is tilted a little inside the shaft, the blades on a fixed head will accentuate and exaggerate that difference in straightness. Causing your arrow to plane out like a bent arrow would but not that dramatic.

My exact reasons for leaving it on. I've hid my ugly mug behind a quiver of arrows many a time. In the event of a second shot you only have to move your hand a couple inches instead of a foot or more.
-
Had them come apart twice on me. They were coming unserved on the loop where it hooks on your cam. Pearson replaced them both times, the second time with Stone Mountain. I've had pretty good luck with it since then.
-
I've had bad luck with them. Won't shoot them again.

I've still got some time left, but I need to let the woods settle a bit. We need to make a late season charge for the lead. -
Thats the story of my life. I pass up small bucks all year and have been for the last 5 years. The guys on the neighboring property shoot whatever they want. And the past two years they've killed two deer between 140-150 class. I know they're deer I've passed in previous years but they make the comment "See, it doesn't matter if you shoot all the little ones, we still kill nice bucks." This burns me knowing I'm the one doing the work for them.

Well we're well on our way to socialism. I'm so glad I work my butt off so the government can give it to those that don't want to. McCain will be able to say "I told you so." in a few years. I blame this on the liberal media.

What a tragedy. He was an asset to this forum for sure and will be missed.

I too will be on vacation from the 5th through the 16th. That should hit the seek and chase pretty good.

My season has been pretty slow too. Up until this week I was lucky if I saw a deer each hunt. Then this week all I really saw were 1.5-2.5 yr old bucks roaming around. I saw a couple does, and luckily got one close enough to shoot. She's in freezer. I was getting worried about putting meat in the freezer as well, now the pressures off and I can look for a big boy. Good luck.

I've been hunting in Monroe Co. IL. Early in the week i saw a few small bucks doing a little chasing but the does really weren't interested. I rattled in a handfull of small bucks this week but nothing worth shooting. Thursday I killed a nice doe that was being followed by a small buck, but I think he was just being curious. I'd give it another day or two and there'll be some hot ones running around.
