Re: 2 misses in 2 days... You never know until you look. Even a bad shot can be fatal. There are a lot of arteries in the legs that can lead to a dead deer in a short distance. Good luck

Re: Team 15 I hunted this past week a couple of times but didn't see a deer. i think the full moon messed me up.

Re: O.K. scientists................. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Actually liquids can freeze at higher temperatures it pressure is increased. Water freezes at 32 F at 1 atmosphere of pressure. So in a high pressure situation it will freeze at a higher temp. Also the specific heat capacity of certain substances such as metal and glass allow them to hold temperatures differently. [/ QUOTE ] This is the right answer. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry I'm a dork...eh...I mean chemist.

Re: Climbing with Linemans Spikes [ QUOTE ] I don't know I use a Summit climber, and I gotta say its pretty fast up and into the tree if you consistantly use it. Last year I got out to my hunting area late about 6:30am and made a shot on a nice buck at 7:15 am. I wouldn't think compromising your safety for a few minutes would seem logical. GOOD LUCK and GO BLUE! [/ QUOTE ] thanks to everyone for their concern and input. I was just wondering if anyone did it. If I try it and feel its unsafe I won't do it. No way I'd compromise safety for speed. I've got a summit too and love it, but its big and not ideal for every situation.

Re: What broadhead do you shoot? 100 grain Muzzy. Because they shoot better than thunderheads, are easy to work with, easy to tune, inexpensive, tough as nails, and I just like to say "Muzzy".

Re: Team 15 I'm thinking about going tomorrow morning for a couple hours but it's going to be 65 for a low. But I can't stand it any longer.

There is a post on www.archertalk.com that details how to sharpen your broadheads with a strop. I've always used a leather strop w/ jewelers rouge on my knives, and they are unbeleivably sharp. So the other night i stropped my broadhead blades (including the free sonics). My goodness they are hair splitting sharp. I would post the link but AT isn't responding right now. Its really simple, (muzzy's are a little trickier).

Re: how do i find the bucks during rut Think like a deer. Deer eat, sleep, try to stay alive, and breed. This early season they are worried about eating and sleeping. So hunt close to food that is close to bedding areas. But when the rut hits bucks get horny and they are on the prowl. They're not worried about eating, or sleeping, and will do some dumb things. Does will typically feed and bed in their usual locations. So hang out downwind of a doe bedding area or feeding area. The bucks will stay inconpicuous while scent checking for does.

Re: question on sonics?? Yah, the second go 'round were the sonic pros. The first time I think I did get a bad a one. because it played heck putting it together and getting the blades to meet. They're pretty close and it shoots good, but the second one they sent me went together like a dream.

Does anyone climb to their stands with linemans spikes? I know cabelas has Sport Climbers but they seem kind of rinky dink. I know a few guys that carry lock on stands and climb trees with the lineman spikes, strap the stand on and hunt. They say its quicker and quieter than using a climber. I thought about giving a try.

Re: Headin Out Good luck teamate. I just got to work so I won't be scoring (any points) today. I hope you get a whack at that buck. You never know, a cool morning before a hot day may produce.... ...mosquitoes.

Re: Is there anyone in SE Missouri or SW Illinois? I work in Stl, and live and hunt about 35 mile SE of Stl. Trust me I know I'm blessed to be an IL native. We have a ton of public ground, so everyone has a great chance at bagging nice deer. Good luck this season

The cool weather had me craving chili so I whipped a batch up the other day. 2 lbs deer burger 2-15 oz cans of Hot chili beans 1-15 oz can of pinto beans 28 oz can of tomato sauce 15 oz can of crushed tomatoes 15 oz can of diced tomatoes 1 onion 1 T of minced garlic 3 T chili pepper Large can of V8 Brown burger with 1/2 the onion and the garlic. Then put everything else together except for the V8. Crank up the heat and stir to keep it from burning. Use the V8 to thin it out. B/c at this point it'll be pretty thick. I like mine on the thick side, but still use about half of the V8. I usually kick up the heat with a couple of Jalapenos but I didn't have any. Also...next time I'll probably put an extra Tablespoon of chili powder in. One more thing, throughout the cooking I added salt and pepper here and there. Its ready to eat whenever its hot, but its better the longer it simmers, and even better the next day. Enjoy -aaron

Re: Team 15 Season opens tomorrow but I've got to work so I won't be in the woods. Who's hunting this weekend? The weather sucks her though. Its been mid 60's for two weeks, now season is here it's going to be in the 80's. Thats dissappointing. Good luck guys and lets get on top. -aaron

Well this year definitely isn't the bumper crop of last year. Last year there were so many it was like walking on marbles. I went out the other day to do some scouting and the white oaks around me are nearly barren. I just checked some of the easy to locate areas but I think the dry summer put a damper on them. Same for the persimmons. Whats everyone else seeing? The reds don't look bad; there are a lot more red oak trees around me. So I guess I'll have to put my efforts on them or on the bean fields.

Re: Team 15 Hey guys. Sorry I havn't checked in in awhile. Team Drop- tine is good with me. It looks like we've got a pretty good foundation. Joebob those are some nice animals. I'm ready to go for our bow season. I'll probably get a chance to hunt Tuesday or wednesday. I shouldn't have a problem bagging a doe or two early season to put some points up, then I have a decent chance at dropping some nice bucks. Here are last years kills...
