  1. Re: mathew vrs hoyt "can't go wrong with either one. the bow that you can shoot the best, with the most comfort is the best one. Don't over look a lot of other nice bow companies either. -------------------- " Very well said.... I agree 100% that the bow that you shoot and feel is best for you is the one you should buy, I really really like Mathews after shooting the Mathews Switchback in the local pro shop but I know Hoyt also makes a really good bow and Im figuring on a Parker Pheonix 32" for my next bow for the price and reliability of it........-tim
  2. Re: PSE Polaris I started witha Fred Bear Whitetail Edition that had already been wore out twice and then I moved up to a Browning Xcellerator (also really old but in good shape until about a month ago when it exploded), and browning is made by PSE I believe and it was a really good shooting bow until I shot a Mathews SB and then I was hooked........ Go out and kill a few deer with it until you figure whether you are hooked or not and then go upgrade to a truly awsome bow such as the Switchback or Parker Pheonix........-tim
  3. Re: your take???? "A walleye that hits the frying pan at 2 lbs will never be a 10 lber, just like a buck taken young will never be a big buck. " That is exactly what I am trying to stick into these boys around here shooting bucks with halfinches of horn sticking out of their head!!!! Oh well maybe one day they will figure out that the big bucks where once small bucks and you cant kill a big buck unless you let the small bucks walk........ My theory is let the small buck walk so it can be a big buck next season, and shoot a doe........
  4. Re: how to make deer un nocturnal? There is no way I know of to do that but you could setup in an area where you could get a shot while he is coming to and from bed....
  5. What are your takes on shooting does???? Or your opinions I should say.... I think it is good to shoot a doe every now and again and when I do shoot a doe I try to make it a smaller one so the meat is good and tender know what I mean???? It helps the herd and makes for some good eating as well because them big ol bucks can be tough no dought about it....-tim PS:other than every now and again for the meat I concentrate on big bucks only and wont shoot small bucks....

    Got one.

Re: Got one. Thats a good looking buck and great story to go along with it congratulations........
  7. Re: Squirrels...How many take shots Well it always seems when I go deer hunting I see plenty of squirrels and when I go squirrel hunting I see plenty of deer but aint that always the case.... I aint worried about it though its cool to watch them especially when the action is slow....-tim
  8. Re: Finally got one, then two! Thats a really good looking buck mine was 10" inside and 11" tall, congratulations and have a good hunting season (looks like you already did)........
  9. Re: Hey Its a Deer! Hey buddy no worrys that is tender venison right there.... We ate some of the backstraps from the big buck I shot yesterday, this morning, and I feel like he was kinda old cus the backstraps where kinda tough but still GOOD EATING!!!!!!!! Dont worry buddy you can boil them horns so dont let it get ya down congratulations on the kill!!!!!!!!-tim
  10. Re: So close it was sickening! You cant killem on the couch so go getem!!!! Seriously though if you have hunted that stand ALOT it is probobly best to let it rest for atleast a day or two.... The still hunting club I shot my big buck in yesterday doesnt get much pressure I dont think at one time so being I pulled the trigger and stirred up the place I dont intend to hunt there until next week more than likely even though I could have gone back yesterday afternoon (not to mention dragging to big bucks in one day would be more work than I intend on doing in one day, especially in the rain).... Anyways good luck getting the big boy and have a good hunting season....-tim
  11. Re: First Buck Of The Season and an AWSOME HUNT!!!!!!! *DELETED* Just wanted to say thankyou fellas for the comments on the buck, it wasnt my first one but it was my biggest to date!!!! 12. What is your take on cowhorns/spikebucks and QDM???? Do you think it is good to take them out or not???? I dont know one way or the other honestly so if I wanna shoot one I do and if I dont wanna shoot it thats good to Ill pass him up such as I did today and it payed off big for me........ Just wondering you fellas takemeasy and have a goodseason but I do believe that if you shoot all the small bucks you will never have big bucks so I usually just wait on the big bucks and it payed off today........
  13. Re: Witnessed a Management Buck Shot tonight........ Thats good.... I shot a big 7pointer today due to passing up some spikes and cowhorns after reading this thankyou for the information........-tim
  14. Fellas had an AWSOME HUNT today even though it was raining and got my biggest buck to date!!!!!!!! First buck of the season to as far as between me, dad, and my brother go........ Well heres the story sorry if its kinda long but it was a great hunt and wanted to share it with you fellas........ We got to our stands as light was coming up but somebody had moved my stand so I was forced to find it while my brother hunted and it wont long before he came over the walki talkie and said he had just seen 4bucks right at first light.... Keep in mind it is raining in sheets about now but that is a good sign and he said one of the bucks was right nice but didnt present a shot.... Well I decided to still hunt for most of the morning and eased around until I was soaked to the bone from the cold rain and 56degree highs today (still awsome hunting weather).... We met back up at the lodge to dry off about 9:00am and then decided to head back out because the rain had slacked off.... By this point I had also sat in a ladder stand and a small box blind just to keep from walking but still got soaking wet but we tried to make the best of it.... We headed out and sat in two box blinds about 600yardsapart from each other.... About 30minutes after getting settled in I was sitting there with my Remington 30-06 propped up in the corner kind of dozing off and watching the squirrels so I decided to stand up and stretch....bad move.... I looked behind me and there where FOUR bucks standing in the path directly behind me so I grabbed my rifle and propped up in the window to look for a shot opportunity!!!! A spike buck and a cowhorn ran off into the woods and then crossed back over into the block on the left again and then a four pointer crossed (none of which I wanted to shoot on such a messy day) but then I kept looking in my Simmons 3-9x40 Scope and I spotted tall horns (tines, antlers, whatever you wanna callem just a habit to callem horns I guess).... I looked harder and it was a big buck crossing back and forth about 100 yards away.... He did this about 4x and I finally made a mouth grunt and he stopped in the middle of the path so I settled the crosshairs on his shoulder and squeezed a shot off!!!! BOOM!!!! At the sound of the shot the big buck stumbled and fell right into the ditch graveyard dead without a dought!!!! I was so tickled and excited and my heart was pumping 200+mph it was AWSOME!!!! I heard my brother come over the radio asking did I get him and I came back with "Big Buck Down Baby Big Buck Down!!!!".... I was so excited I had to wait like what seemed like a long time before I could even climb down my stand.... When we walked up to him we got him out of the muddy ditch and I couldnt help but admire his 7point rack!!!! The buck was 10" wide and 11" tall and that is a big buck for this part of the country, you dont see many of them like that around here!!!!!!!! Fellas I was so thrilled I couldnt even handle it I had to sit down and chill for a minute after we got him field dressed and everything.... Just an awsome hunt even if it was raining but we will be eating backstraps tommorow and we got the cape and head ready to go to the taxidermist just waiting.... I have shot smaller bucks before now such as a basket racked 7pointer in front of the dogs but this is my first really big buck and it was such an awsome hunt fellas, words just dont describe how I felt and I am just now starting to calm down but typing this story just brings back memories and gets me excited all over again.... Thanks for listening and there will be pics following this post you fellas takemeasy and I hope your hunting season will be as good as mine has been!!!!-tim http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=139651&anum=6114 http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=139652&anum=6114 http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=139654&anum=6114 http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=139655&anum=6114 http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=139657&anum=6114 PS:Im the boy in the right of the picture and my rifle is the wood stock bolt action.... Sorry we couldnt get better pics we didnt have a camera with us before we skinned him out and everything but this is the best I could do, you fellas takemeasy and have a good hunting season!!!!!!!!
  15. Re: Witnessed a Management Buck Shot tonight........ No clue honestly.... Im glad to see so many different opinions on here its good to hear.... I dont think just cus I shoot cowhorns that it makes me a bad hunter or anything just my way of doing things, if everybody did everything the same we wouldnt have anything to talk about now would we lol.... Good luck this hunting season....-tim
  16. Re: Realtree Online Poll?? Thought Id add that we ground two of my deer a couple years ago completely into hamburger ourselves and you wanna talk about some GOOD EATING!!!!!!!! Works great in spaghetti and all kinds of stuff!!!!!!!!-tim
  17. Re: Another home made ground blind... Wow that is one sweet blind!!!! We made one behind our house overlooking a biologic full draw plot but aint had no deer on the plot yet so dont see a need to hunt it yet, ours is nowhere near as good as yours though so congratulations on an awsome looking blind, hope you bag one out of it soon....
  18. Re: What a week! Long story Sounds great!!!! We got two great dealerships in my area and Parker makes a great bow, Parker and Mathews in my opinion are awsome cus our dealer is a Mathews, parker, and bowtech dealer.... Anyways congrats on both getting bow fixed and the kill, takemeasy and have a good hunting season....-tim
  19. Re: Realtree Online Poll?? I do mine on my own.... When I shot my first one (small doe) Dad taught me how to field dress/gut, and skin a deer so I perty much just carried on from there and have cleaned every deer I have shot since myself....

    My Dad's buck

Re: My Dad\'s buck GOod lookin buck, congratulations to the lucky hunter!!!!
  22. Re: How many of you ?? I think gun season is a good thing even though I enjoy bowhunting just about if not more than gunhunting.... I think gunseason makes sure the herd gets thinned out every year and the rifle gives you a better opportunity to shoot the deer you wanted taken out know what I mean???? Dont get me wrong I love to bowhunt if not more than gunhunt but I do believe gunseason has a place.... Therfore in this order I would rather bowhunt during bowseason and some during gunseason but I do tote a Remington 30-06 during most of the gunseason....
  23. Re: killed one in the rain Congratulations thats what you call working for your gravy!!!!
  24. Re: raining deer "just be no use even going hunting." Buddy thats never a true statement any day hunting is a good day!!!! I love hunting and even if it is raining Ill go sit in a boxstand somewhere.... I think light rain is better than a heavy rain but you can see deer in heavy rain, Ive done it before........
  25. Re: Perfect rifle for deer? Im shooting a 30-06 right now but I used to shoot a 30-30, I like most guns but I do have my opinions.... The 300 Weatherby you are shooting right now will work great on just about any big game I would think.... And it has the bonus extra knock down.... I like a gun with enough power to knock one in the dirt so Im figuring on my next gun being either a BAR 7mm or a BAR 300.... Dont know yet but I hope you have good luck with your gun, find the right load/bullet for it and topped it off with a good quality scope and it will be all that is needed for most biggame....
