Re: What is your fravorite bow company/bow to shoot Well I shoot a Fred Bear Whitetail Edition BUT I want to shoot a Mathews SWITCHBACK! Man what an awsome bow.-tim -
Re: Traditional Archery? I appreciate the reply but thought Id drop back in here and let everybody know I dont plan to give up the compound over this traditional thing. Just curious about traditional shooting thats all. Id rather be really accurate and know what I shoot at is going down because of the compound with sights and all than shoot the long bow and mess up and miss or worse, cripple the buck, know what I mean? Im the same way with my rifles. I wanna shoot a scope on everything whether it be a 22, 30-30, 270, 280, or whatever I want a scope on it so I know Im accurate enough to kill cleanly what Im shooting at. Just lettin yall know Im not givin up the compounds that easy like Im crazy or something but I was curious about the traditional shooting. yall takemeasy and have a good one.-tim

Re: Backyard archery practice setups!! I got about 3 bails of hay in the field back behind my house I shoot at but I have alot of pass throughs shooting my compound. Trying to find something for a back stop so I wont loose so many dang arrows. That looks awsome though congratulations and good luck this year.-tim

I saw a post wallago that brought back memorys of my long bow. My question is this. Sorry If I drag this out but anyways. I used to shoot a long bow for fun and practice before I ever got into bowhunting. The long bow is like 45-50lb pull I believe and I think it is a pearson bow. I shot perty good with it before I got the compound but I dont have a string for it. How much would string for that thing cost me if I wanted to get into Traditional Archery again? I would appreciate any info on this topic and in advance, Thanks.-tim

Re: This is why I am comfortable selling it... DANG!!!! That is AWSOME!!!! I wish I could do that with a long bow. I wouldnt even bother with the compound if I could. How long did it take to get that good? I have a long bow but I dont have a string for it about how much would that cost? I would appreciate any input you could offer cus thats just plain awsome man. Congratulations on some great shooting.-tim

Hey yall. I was under the impression that there where not many deer in the woods behind my house and it was mostly raccoons and foxes along with the usual rabbits and squirrells. However I walked back there this afternoon to shoot the 22 rifle and I found the entire back part of my field (it is really really tall with green grass and stuff like that). It was mowed down. Everything from the woods almost halfway of the field was mowed down like somethin had been eatin it. Dont know what it is yet but there are a bunch of deer tracks back there so I put my digital stealth cam up back there and I hope to get some pictures of a deer or two by monday. Yall takemeasy and have a goodun.-tim

Re: bad accident last night........ Hey yall I appreciate all the good wishes and he has done nothing all day but lay around, watch the outdoor channel, and sleep, but he is already feeling better. takemeasy and thankyou.-tim

Hey yall. Last night my brother had a bad accident. He was walking down stairs with a glass of drink and slipped. The glass broke and cut his arm bad enough he had to go to the hospital but he is ok now. As far as falling goes he is ok to because he caught himself on the handrail. Anyways just lettin yall know and we are out of school today to make sure he is ok. takemeasy and have a goodun.-tim

Hey yall. I am lookin to buy a new bow to replace my Fred Bear Whitetail Edition just because my bow is so old and out of date compared to the new ones. I want somethin I can shoot and depend on for years to come, I mean nuthin wrong with the Bear just want somethin a lil more up to date. Just lookin for some ideas so here we go.... I will be spending somewhere around 800 dollars on a good bow set up. I also wanna buy some open layered targets and top notch arrows and broadheads for this thing because if Im gunna have a good bow I want good equipment to go with it know what I mean? But Ill just start with the bow question and go from there. I dont wanna spend the full 800 dollars on the bow because of the other equipment I want to go with it. I was lookin at the Bass Pro Shops Bow Packages. The have names such as Parker, PSE, Reflex, Fred Bear, and other such packages listed on their website. All of these packages are so that you can just pick one up and it immediatley has all the basics you need to start shooting as far as I know. I have heard Parker Bows are almost as good as Mathews but dont know about that. Another one that caught my eye was PSE. Looks like a couple of their models have parrelell limbs similar to the switchback. I know Reflex is made by Hoyt and I know fred bear is dependable so what do yall think? Gimma what ya think and Ill reply my first chance I get. What do yall think about a Bass Pro Bow package? Yall takemeasy and have a goodun.-tim

Re: decision.... Hey bud I agree about the username thing but I cant bring myself to change usernames because I love bowhunting so much. The reason I was lookin for a rifle is there arnt many bowhunting opportunitys in Northeast NC because of running dogs so hard around here the deer are always to spooky and there is hardly any land to bowhunt on without worryin about dogs gettin in on you. The bow season here is usually two weeks at the most and you cant bow hunt during the muzzleloader season and after that the dogs rule. Know what I mean? I am thinkin about not gettin a rifle and gettin a new bow setup to try and do some more bowhunting but I made sure to get yalls opinion just incase I get a rifle. Im still not sure but Im really leaning towards a new bow setup from bass pro shops. Im gettin ready to start a new post about my bow in the bowhunting forum so if you wanna continue this please go over there. Sorry if this was misleading but I really love to bowhunt and archery in general and dont really wanna give it up just cus of dog hunting around here. Thanks and takemeasy.-tim

What kind of truck does everybody like? Dodge, Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, or somethin else? I am a Ford Blue Oval man hands down even though I drive a Isuzu Pickup (good on gas). I may do somethin with the Isuzu in the future like tint the windows or new tires or somethin but not plannin on it. Dodge is a good truck to but from what Ive seen it aint nuthin to a Ford and a Ford sounds better with pipes (dual exhaust and such) so the big blue oval wins in my book. yall takemeasy and have a goodun.-tim

Re: decision.... Hey yall. Once again I appreciate the reply and after reviewing my post I narrowed my decision down even more to a Remington Model 7400 Autoloader Synthetic in 270 Winchester with a BSA Contender 4-16x40. I shoot a BSA on my 30-30 so Im gunna keep up the trend lol. Once again thanks for the help and if you want keep it coming but I am pretty much settled on the 7400 270 Synthetic with BSA Scope. yall takemeasy and have a goodun.-tim

Re: my truck (nuthin special but hey)........ Hey bud. First of all thanks for the replys. Second the Isuzu has 169 thousand miles oner. The 4x4 works good most of the time (it has locking hubs) and we have had to fix a few things on it but it gets me where I need to go. I have actually considered trading it in and buying a Ford Car or something similar. I like the way a car drives and it isnt as aquard as a pickup. My buddy at school is driving a Ford Mustang 4cylinder and I am becoming kinda partial to it. Only disadvantage to a car is nowhere to haul anything but that would be ok because I drive my dad's truck to and it has a v8 (Ford Expedition 2000 model). My mom's car is a 2000 Dodge Intrepid with a v6 and pioneer stereo system. Great on gas (31mpg) and it will haul hindparts and is great to drive. Anyways yall takemeasy and have a goodun.-tim PS:how much do you think I could get for a lil truck like that? also we payed 1500 for it.

I made a post earlier on a rifle topic (im gettin a new gun for this season), and I have thought about the suggestions yall made and decided on a Remington Model 700 SPSDM with Synthetic Stock and Blued Barrel in 270 Winchester. I plan to top the gun off with a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x50 Scope. If I dont get a Bolt Action and go with an Autoloader like I said before I will get a Remington7400 Synthetic in 270 Winchester with the same scope as before (Nikon Buckmaster). I just thought I would give a few reasons for my decisions before I end this post though. I chose the Remington over the Brownings and Winchesters because I have heard nothing but good things about Remington, know countless people with Remingtons and no complaints, and I shoot a Remington 870 Shotgun myself and love the gun with no complaints. I chose the Nikon Scope because of I have used Nikon Optics in the past and know right many folks with Nikon Scopes and Binoculars and have never had nor heard any complaints. From what I have seen they are very bright and reliable scopes. As far as the caliber (270) goes I have been shooting my dad and my brother's 270s all my hunting life and I guess I got used to the way the 270 Winchester shoots. After reading alot on it I have also found out it is an awsome gun for deer sized game on up to black bears and maybe elk with a good shot and the right bullet, without the extra recoil of a magnum. The action has not been decided yet but I have time before I get my money right and go get the gun. Bolt or Auto I am really looking forward to harvesting a deer with the new gun. Thanks for the help and I just thought Id let yall know what I decided. Thanks and takemeasy.-tim

Re: my truck (nuthin special but hey)........ Also here are some pics of my dad's old truck. It was a 94' model Ford F-250, Extended Cab, with a 460 V8 Motor, All Terrain Tires, and Dual Exhaust. It got 8 mpg on a good day and thats why I bought a 4cyl. Here are the pics. http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=91909&anum=6113 http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=91910&anum=6113

Hey yall, I saw nick's post about his truck and once again congratulations on an awsome truck man so I thought Id post somethin about mine. It aint nuthin special for my first truck and I love all the lifts, tires, dual exhaust, and all the good stuff including tinted windows and good stereo systems but I cant afford them and as good as my stock stuff is working I cant see me buying anything else for my truck besides a trailer hitch lol. Plus my gas mileage is awsome right now. The truck is a 90' model Isuzu Pickup 4x4 with manual locking hubs, I installed a Jensen Stereo just for the cd player in there last year and I wanna put a trailer hitch on it soon. I also have a General Lee CB Radio in it with a built in Lenear to help keep up with our hunting dogs when we are trying to catch them and its hooked up to a Wilson 1000 Magnetic Antenna. Awsome radio really. Other than that my truck is just stock with good gas mileage from the 2.5liter 4cylinder motor under the hood. Here are a few pics but how about some of yall post some about your trucks with a brief description of whats it is. takemeasy and have a goodun.-tim PS:my jensen stereo was not in when I took these pics. http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=100533&anum=6113 http://www.f150online.com/galleries/pictureview.cfm?pnum=100531&anum=6113

Re: Lifted My Truck (pics) Hey man that is one heck of an awsome lookin truck. Congratulations. I am also into riggin up trucks to look good like that but it cost so much and the stock stuff works so well I cant see myself doin much with my lil Isuzu 4x4 Pickup. Plus my truck is great on gas (23mpg), but anyways congratulations I bet she sounds good to.-tim

Re: Remington740030-06or308???? Hey yall. I appreciate all the help. I have been figurin on this right much. The 30-06 has more factory ammunition and can be had in a carbine model (18 1/2" barrel) and that is great for the kind of huntin I do. The semi automatic model will allow for a fast follow up shot if needed and thats the reason I opted for it. Nuthin against bolt actions just my preference. So far this is what I like the best, Remington 7400 Synthetic 30-06 Carbine (18 1/2" Barrel topped off with a Redhead Rifle Sling and Scope). Thanks once again for all your help and if you want keep it coming.-tim

northeastern nc deer hunting....what about yall???
bowhunt101 replied to bowhunt101's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: northeastern nc deer hunting....what about yall??? Hey bud, thanks for the reply. My question was what is the hunting like in your area and I just figured Id tell how it is around here. No I have never shot in the archery coalition and as a matter of fact I just took up archery in the past couple of years. Like I said before kinda hard to find many good archery opportunitys around here so most of our hunting is with guns and dogs. I do know there are good sides to dog hunting and bad sides to dog hunting. When done right it is alot of fun and the clubs we hunt in do it the right way and stay out of still hunters/stand hunters way. The dogs cant read trespassing signs though so we try to stay on our land the best we can. Sorry the dog hunters around the base thought that way but I can assure we are not all like that. Thanks for the reply once again, I appreciate it and takemeasy.-tim -
Howdyyall. I am currently in the market for a new rifle for deer hunting. My dad is a browning man but I have always been partial to a Remington. My shotgun is a Remington 12 Gauge Super Magnum and I was very pleased with it. My dad shoots brownings including a BAR 270 and a Gold 12 Gauge. My question though is on the Remington 7400 Autoloader. My brother just bought one in 270 Win last year and loves the gun. He killed two deer with it his first year using the gun. His is a Synthetic model witha Tasco 4-16x40 Scope. My current rifle is a Marlin 30-30 in need of new scope mounts and Im lookin for somethin that will reach out a lil further than the ol 30-30. Im not sayin I dont like the 30-30 because it will knock a deer dead no dought, just want something that will go a lil farther. The Remington 7400 seems to fit the bill. It is sold cheaper than most automatic rifles, chambered for most good calibers, shoots good, and comes in both wood and synthetic stock. So far my choice is the Remington 7400 Wood Stock Version in 308 Winchester but what do you guys think about the 30-06???? Thanks in advance and takemeasy.-tim PS: I also figured the 308 will be a lil lighter to tote than the 06 and they are both shooting the same 30 caliber bullet.

Well folks. I havnt posted much and just thought this one up. I was thinking about the way hunting is around here and thought I would ask yall how it is to hunt where yall live and hunt if it isnt to personal a question, and if Im wrong please tell me so. I love shooting a bow and love hunting with a bow but around here it is really really hard to kill a deer with anything less than a shotgun most of the time. If your not in a hunting club your not gunna do much hunting and the biggest way to hunt deer around here started october 16th with the opener of gun season. More than half of the clubs here are strictly dog clubs. They have alot of land and hunt with dogs all the time. I have always hunted this way ever since I started hunting at the age of 6. Most people look down on it because they claim it is not real hunting and the deer dont have a chance but spend a day hunting with me and some of the boys and I will prove you wrong I guarantee it. The dogs are run so much the deer no how to get away from them dogs. If you kill a big buck running dogs it was luck because most of the time he is smarter than the hunters and the dogs and will slip away before the hunters even think about shooting him. I am thinking about buying a new gun for doggin but that is another story and was just wonderin how the huntin is around your area. yall have a good one and takemeasy.-tim ps:I have never killed a deer that wasnt bein run by dogs if that tells ya anything and I wouldnt have it any other way.

Re: problem with bow.... Hey yall. I just got about the same replys on another forum so I appreciate your help all the same. Thanks again and takemeasy.-tim

Hey yall. I know I am new here and havnt posted much but I have got a problem with my bow I think. I shoot a Fred Bear Whitetail Edition (old I know) and it shoots good, well up until today. Last weekend I took it and had new string, cables, and all that good stuff put on there so I could begin practicing for the new bow season this year and I have been shooting good with it lately and I mean having arrows touching on most if not all shots at 20-30 yards. I have been meaning to move out to longer range but for now just shooting 20. Well I went out to shoot today and none of my shots where on. I even lost the rest of my practice arrows. I shot all afternoon when it wasnt raining. Please keep in mind I am shooting bails of hay but this was ridiculous, I have never shot this bad. My arrows where all over the hay and only a couple of times got a consistent group and even a few missed the target completley (shot over it). Dont know whats goin on here so could somebody please help me out here? Thanks alot in advance and any advice will be appreciated cus Im goin crazy over here.-tim
