Fellas Ive always believed in taking out cowhorns/spike bucks cus I believe them to be inferior deer with bad genes (I may get ragged for that but thats how Ive been raised so thats what Im going by).... Well we where coming home through the hunting club this afternoon and met a buddy of ours on the way, well he was riding around looking and happened to have his rifle with him.... We stopped and looked for a minute when a buck stood up in the bean field.... It was just sitting there looking for the sound of the diesel truck running so my buddy got out with his gun and eased down the ditch to get in range of him (but also far enough from the truck to call it a stalk), and before we knew what was going on he pulled the trigger and turned the buck a backflip and I mean fer real a back flip.... After that we thought it was dead and we had already established it as a cowhorn so it was one we wanted taken out.... Anyways we started to him and he was stone cold dead so we helped him load him up in the truck and there was meat for the freezer, perty tall cowhorn to with a little tiny browtine.... We headed on home after that and I hunted behind the house for a while but didnt see anything but squirells.... Im ready for Friday to get here though cus there are some big bucks over where I intend to hunt, they have done spotted a 10, 8, and a big 7 over there and Im hoping to lay the crosshairs onem.... You fellas takemeasy and have a good hunting season....-tim

Re: New Bow I agree I would definitley go to a local pro shop and shoot a few different bows before you buy one.... Thats what I intend to do when I go get my new one.... I go to a pro shop called Great Bridge Archery in VA and they are a great bunch of folks, when I was first getting into archery they let me shoot the Mathews Switchback just for comparison and I was left speechless, I think my bow will either be a Bowtech or Mathews because I want to buy from them.... Anways go shoot a few and go from there........

Re: Full Moon I hate hunting full moons to.... Well I wouldnt say all that cus I still see deer but when it is a full moon I think the deer come out later for some reason or another.... I have heard that when it is a full moon you should hunt mid-day but I dont know, worth a shot I reckon........

What gun are you shooting for waterfowling???? I bought a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum with Synthetic Stock last year for goose hunting for the 3 1/2" chamber and more shot but ended up using it for everything both ducks and geese.... Shooting SteelBBs it will knock a ducks lights out....

Re: what shot size Im currently shoot SteelBBs for everything in 3.5" Shells....

Re: chokes I shoot a modified choke cus I can do anything in it from slugs for deer or buckshot to steel shot and bird shot....

Re: round 2 with the layout Lookin good bud.... I really enjoy waterfolwing, probobly my favorite type of hunting and Ive always wanted to try it from a layout boat, a couple friends of mine bought layout boats last season to hunt marshes, creeks, and swamps with around here and shot a few teal out of them.... Anyways congratulations on the ducks and have a good hunting season....-tim

Re: Sighting in a Rifle I shoot a Remington Model 700ADL in 30-06.... It is a bolt and I really like it but I also have a Marlin30-30 that is a lever action with open sights.... The Remington has a Simmons Wide View 3-9x40 Scope.... I sight them both in at 100yards and Im usually in the kill zone out to 200yards no problem. I put it like an inch to 2" high at 100 with the 06 and the 30-30 is usually dead on at 100 because the 30-30 wont shoot past 150-200yards accuratley anyways.... Hope this helps so takemeasy and have a good season....-tim PS:also your rifle setup is a good one nothing but topnotch with both the TC rifle and the Bushnell Scope....

It was a great organized dog drive and I loved it.... We got to the truck-stop to meet the boys in the hunting club and then we stood around and talked till almost daylight deciding where to hunt and discussing this weeks news of the bucks killed where and how big they where.... A buddy of ours Tommy killed a good lookin 9pointer with about a 14-15inch spread with the ML the week before dog season came in.... Well we rode back into the hunting club to scout out the area and see who had already turned loose and then we decided to hunt the 500acreblock, so we turned our dogs loose and got situated to wait for a chase.... It didnt take long because at one time we had 3packs running at one time but not many deer seen cus the block is so big.... We eventually got all the dogs caught up and recast them in a different area but the same block, but they just came back out without running anything.... We tried one more block before calling it a day and I think the boys where going to go hit another place when we left BUT it was a good organized hunt the dogs did their job, we did ours for the most part, and I enjoyed it........ Just thought I would share this so yall takemeasy and have a good hunting season........

Re: help on bringing up someones bad shooting? Ask him to go out and practice with you one day, maybe once he sees how you shoot your bow he will catch on and shoot the same, dont know but its worth a shot aint it???? -
Re: The New Hoyt???? Yeah I figured it had been posted already but it didnt hurt nuthin I dont think but it still looks great.... Ive never shot a Hoyt and the best bow Ive ever shot was the Mathews SB (Switchback) and it was an awsome bow but that dont mean I dont like other bows most if not all of them are great bows now days no matter what it says on the riser........

Re: Who hunts on their own land? We got alot of different spots to hunt and belong to many different hunting clubs for both dogs and still hunting.... We do have some land right behind the house that my grandparents own if that counts cus I hunt it all the time....

Dont know if this has been posted yet or not but what do you fellas think about the new Hoyt Trycon???? Dont know but I think it looks SWEET!!!! If you guys want a picture I can get it up for ya.... Just wondering, it has parrelel split limbs, alpha shox, tecriser, and basically looks like all the good things of a Hoyt and all the good things of a Bowtech thrown into one Sweet looking bow....

Re: Limb Savers It is supposed to make your groups tigher with the rifle if we are talking about the same thing.... It slips over the rifle barrel and some how makes the groups tigher but never figured out how so I didnt buy one....

bowhunt101 replied to a topic in Hunting Equipment
Re: for people who use/have used muzzy and thunderhead No longer than I bowhunted, I shot Muzzys (both 4-blades and 3-blade 100grains) and I loved them, they flew true with my field points and half of the time right out of the box........ -
Re: Shooting a bedded deer I have shot a bedded deer before but missed it at about 250yards.... It was an ol doe and I was shooting a Browning 270.... Couldnt believe I missed after practicing all summer dangit, anyways I wouldnt hesitate to take a shot like that again if opportunity knocked, you fellas takemeasy and have a good hunting season....-tim

Re: fall-away rests or whisker biscuits??? The biscuit always worked better for me when I was shooting my bow........

Re: how many carry a gun. I would love to carry a sidearm for snakes and stuff such as that but its against the law/illegal here in NC........
-
Re: Shooter????? Putem down I sure would with a rack like that and its a buck its gotta go!!!!
-
Re: Touchy subject, please help Here in NC it is common practice and tradition to actually hunt deer with dogs, I know that is not the way most folks do it in other states but it is the most common way here.... I would be VERY upset if someone shot my hunting dog just cus it messed up their hunt.... The better word would be furious so dont shoot the dog please, take it up with the dog's owner its not the dogs fault he doesnt know your hunt was messed up with him.... Tell the owner about the problem in a kind manner and see how it goes, it cant hurt much cus with the dogs running around your not going to kill much I wouldnt think so you really have nothing to loose by telling the owner about the problem.... PS:I would definitley not be paying 2000 dollars to hunt and have it messed up by dogs know what I mean????
