  1. Re: Amazing Iowa Hunt.......PICS! I can tell you that I can believe that load coming from IA, I don't question it one bit, maybe they lied a little on the whole 1/2 mile thing but no doubt in my mind they did that in the best deer hunting county in IA. We hold some brutes up here but trust me, it isn't like that everywhere, just in a few spots. I too can't say I would take that many bucks in a small area, we practice strict deer management so we can have big bucks and lots of them. I really would have liked to see these type of guys just try and shoot maybe just the bigger bucks and take a few does, lots of guys practice buck only hunting and will only shoot a deer if it has any rack on it of any sort, this is ok but when they take that many bucks out of an area year after year and never one doe it just is very hard on the heard IA is good hunting but imagine what could happne if these hunters tried a little QDM, have some great hunting. Just my opinion but I can tell you that guys will go out and hunt buck only and coming from that county I wouldn't doubt seeing a pickup full iike that, it is heaven over there!
  2. Re: Shotgun for Deer questions Remington makes the Copper Solid I believe the name of the shell is (don't hold me to that) but as for the scope by dad put a Nikon Scope on his Remington 1100 and it has had no problem except that the mounting bracket was junk so he has to get a different one, other then that those Remington shells with his rifled barrell and that scope makes 100 yard shots easy!...for him any way...I just havn't picked up on the old mans talent yet!
  3. Re: Iowa Poachers I am from IA and boy do I agree with you. Last year we had a 200"+ buck on our ground and the farmers who rent and work our land tell us that some out of staters were hunting the neighboring property and they believe they heard gun shots one morning and later that day sure enough here came the out of staters to show them their 2 big trophies they had "taken" one being the 200"+ buck, oh ya all this took place during the IA bow season! No way to prove it but the farmers swear they shot them with guns, nothing we can do though, just adds salt to the wound when some poachers get caught and get a little slap on the wrist, they are lucky I am not one giving them the fine! Boy poaching makes me hot!
  4. we just bought a few new leaf river digital game cams. my brother IowaDeerHunter posted some of the first pics with them, and we are very pleased with the quality of the pics, just what we expected. BUT we got numerous, over half, of the pics had no deer in them. By the time the camera goes off the deer or whatever has walked right on by the camera most of the time! I wondered if anyone knew how to change or fix this, something is up with the trigger speed, i can't say i have heard of this type of problem ever with these leaf rivers, just boggles my mind!?!?!? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks
  5. Re: Fall Plot pics...... Those plots look great! Did I see some chicory in there? We got some planted here in IA and the deer are starting to mow it down, this stuff really works! Great lookin' plots!!!!!!
  6. Re: How big? We planted about maybe an acre food plot (no bigger) on the top of a ridge in the Loose Hills in IA. This is probably the highest point around and we planted it in vigin soil, never been touched. We bulldozed the ridge and disked it well. This year we sprayed it and all and then planted Tecomate Chicory, Tecomate Alfalfa, and a little Imperial Clover. We mixed it all together and it turned out great! This stuff (except the clover) is supposed to be drought tollerant and it definately was, we didn't have a really wet year this year and all the native plants were a little brown but the food plot plants looked like they had been watered everyday! Wonder what will happen when we get a good year of rain? anyway, the only thing I would do next time is spray, wait 2 weeks, disk it, wait 2 more weeks to let the weed seed to start to grow and then spray it again, this will eliminate most of the weeds. We have had some weed problems but nothing too big. Oh ya this stuff comes back somewhere for 3-5 years depending on how you take care of it, so do a good job planting it and such and you'll have a great plot for years!!!!! The deer were eating it some but when late Sep. came around they are mowing it down!!!!! They love it!!!!!!!
