I have used pine needles before for a cover scent and seemed to work very well. Now that I have scent lock I don't worry about it, but i also used to put my coveralls in the hog confinement since we used to hunt by one and it worked very well to stunk bad but worked.

Re: bowhunting movies I like the roger raglin videos along with the extreme bucks videos and Monster bucks videos. All seem to keep me intertained

Re: Broadhead problem I would agree with the above posts. The bow is probably out of tune. Also the broadhead might be to heavy for the arrow. Hope you get it straightened out.

Re: how to hunt this land? I have hunted pines quite a bit with good success.I have either put a stand up in the pines and cut a couple of opening to the trails or have made a wooden box blind and put it in the pines in the spring and the deer get used to it by fall. They both have worked well for me.

Re: Christmas shopping for my husband- please help! I guess it would be fun to go on a deer hunting trip like that if i didn't live in the state where some of the biggest bucks come out of. Still sounds like a winner to me. Great gift. -
What's a big deer in your area... weight wise?
double_drop replied to Shaun_300's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: What\'s a big deer in your area... weight wise? a big deer around here is 250 to 300 pounds that is considered a big deer. Small deer around here are about 130 to 100 pounds. -

Re: The Mathews scored on Saturday Morning (pic). nice buck looks good. -
Re: Someone help me out... I would say take a walk around the area and look for some new sign and possibly move your stands. When it gets colder around here anyway the deer seem to stick to the timber instead of being out in the fields. Might want to check that out.

Re: Rattling, does it work? It works for me every year. I normally rattle for about 1 to 2 min. then wait for another 20 to 30 min. and then do it again.

Re: Squirrels...How many take shots I actually hunt rabbits and squirrels with flu flu arrows. It is a blast and i don't care what anyone says rabbits and squirrels do taste good. You just have to know how to cook them. I have a total of 54 squirrels under my belt 22 which have been out of a tree and don't know how many rabbits. They are easier than squirrels.

I use HS fresh earth cover scent wafers in my box that i put all of my clothes in to cover up any extra scent that might get on my clothes. I also spray down with scent killer every time i go out even though I have scent lock clothing.

Re: Shotgun for Deer questions I shoot a 11-87 with a 26 inch bird barrel and a ic choke. Shoot the cheapest slugs i can find out of it and shoot an inch high at 100 yards with it. Never have had a slug barrel, my dad has one on his 870 wingmaster and it shoots very well. Last year we carried our muzzleloaders as well during shotgun season for the long range shots.

Re: Grouping broadheads = ruined fletching I haven't had that problem because I shoot mechanical broadheads. They never seem to open up until they go into the target so they have never hit YET. Who knows could happen tomorrow though.

Re: my frist bow kill Congrats. You will always remember your first kill. I still remember everything about mine and it was 13 years ago.

Re: Another home made ground blind... Looks good. Now we want to see the results. Good luck.

Just curious if anyone else is seeing some rutting sign. Was out tonight just taking a walk through the timber and saw some new scrapes and a couple new rubs that were not around earlier this week. also witnessed a little basket 6 point rubbing the tree. was pretty neat. To young to shoot though, I either go for a 140 plus buck or shoot a doe. Most of the time i end up shooting a doe but at least have a couple chances in a year to get a big boy.

Re: Best climbing stands for the money. I bought a climber at wal mart 3 years ago and I like it alot. It weighs 32 lbs. ya it is a little bit heavier than most but i still hike with it a mile or so in the woods. To be 5 to 8 pounds doesn't make a difference. I paid a fraction of the cost of the high dollar ones. I know i wrote a check for about 115 for it. works just as well and super comfortable.

Re: Carbon arrow question for sure the strength and durability. I have shot 3 deer with the same arrow. Also they seem to shoot alot flatter out of my bow.

Re: Realtree Online Poll?? We do our own deer especially during shotgun season. Our group of 12 normally end up with 20 to 24 deer at the end of the weekend. We all skin them and then cut them up in the barn. Next it is off to the house where we grind up the meat for burger cut all the steaks and loins and then make sausage and jerky. Sometimes we take them to the locker all the cut up meat i should say to have breakfast links and sticks made.

Re: Carbon Arrows ?? I shoot beaman 380-16 carbons. Great arrows .003 for straightness as well. If you buy your arrows through a good bow shop they will show you how straight the arrows are as well on the tester. That is why i bought these. They are tough as well. have shot 3 deer with the same arrow and still straight.

Re: what shot size If you are hunting them at the same time I would use 1's if you don't want to change shells all the time. That is all i use anymore for geese it brings them down hard. Otherwise I will use 2 to 4 shot on ducks.

Re: arrows i would go with one or the other as well. I personally would go with the carbon's but it is up to you. I switched to carbon about 5 years ago and don't missed aluminum arrows at all.

Re: Killed a doe tonight! looks like some darn good eating to me. Congrats on the doe.
