Re: Knee surgery Yup - when I was a research fellow at Sick Kids in Toronto I had a good friend whose wife developed acute appendicitis diagnosed in the ER - she actually sat in the ER for 48 hours during which time she perforated her appendix and ended up needing a bigger operation and was in the hospital for two weeks... Just think, HilaryCare is looming right around the corner for us south of the border too....

Re: best weedeater for the money-stihl or echo I also have a Ryobi and I do interchange parts (weedwhacker, edger, blower) and have had no problems. A good friend of mine whose son is a landscaper says Echo is the way to go.

Re: Tips on hunting turkeys in pines Agree with above - I'd pretty much bet you'll end up setting up in the open areas or gaps (which ones are what the scoutings for...) One thing about scouting in a pine forest - it is generally easier b/c feathers and poop and all are more easily spotted on needles than in leaves...

Re: Get the shakes? Yup - my pulse does go up, my heart does beat up into my neck, and I get some shakes particularly if the tom pops into view either really close or comes from behind me.... A sure fire stress test I tell you is a big tom popping into view, gobbling into your brain, spittn and drummn.... I still think it is the best thing you can do with your clothes on...

Re: Tips/Tricks... I have found that the turkeys here in Michigan are far more call-shy (meaning they are less likely to come in to your calling) and also respond less to locator calls than in all the other places I've hunted -- even at the beginning of the season... Practically speaking this means you have to have good scouting, get as close to turkeys as possible, and use mostly soft yelps, putts, and purrs. Obviously this is only my experience. I've only hunted the southern part of MI so things may be different up north...

Re: my story (\"title On Top Of A Ridge\") Here are my reflections on your story: 1) That is a neat story that I very much enjoyed reading 2) Jimmie and Skyler must be pretty strong to drag the uncle all the way back to the house 3) The uncle got over his heart attack pretty quickly (2 days in the hospital...) 4) Is this all fiction, or is this perhaps based at least in part on a true personal story? 5) An idea for you to "extend" your nice story - the uncle, two boys, and new dogs go back out and harvest the mountain lion and mount his pelt (along with the two slain dogs' collars) over the stone fireplace in their hunting cabin. 6) If you already have 3 such stories, I think you should write some, work with Tominator to "clean them up", and publish an anthology... Keep up the good work.
