  1. I have been hunting turkey for 5 years and just got my first 2 last spring. Mouth calls are hard to learn but once you get them down they are great. Practice alot on all your calls though. I walked to the edge of a piece of woods and just yelped 3 times and in mid yelp the birds gobbled and cut me off so i just popped out my 1 hen decoy and waited. I called 1 more time with no answer and just kept waiting and the came right in. I think if i knew more about calling when i was just starting out I would have gotten more birds. Do not over call and research calling sequences that people do and it will help majorly. also learn what the calls your using mean and also so you know what the bird that is responding is saying.
  2. just look up online how to score deer and do it yourself and that would be the closest to accurate
  3. ive heard good things about krowtan also
  4. I have done 2 deer hides and all you have to do is make sure all the meat is off the hide then if you buy a tanning kit it will have all the directions. its simple just takes a little time. I did both of mine with van dykes curatan and one hide i did in 06 and there is nothing wrong with it and the other is perfect still 2 years later. Coon skins need a little extra work cause there oily skin. you just have to soak them in water with dish detergent and i believe coyotes are the same. rabbits have thin furs so be careful not to tear or rip it when fleshing. Taxidermy.net has alot of info also.
  5. I know 5 people including myself who use .308 and none of us have complaints. My girlfriends father shot 2 deer thanksgiving day both over 200 yards with no problem. They use it as a varmit round because it is a flat shooting round.
  6. that first picture with the red dot is a little to close for comfort for me. It may be a good spot but just for the fact that if you pull a little bit when you let that arrow fly your right in the shoulder and then you got a deer that you might not find. I like to aim a little bit further back.
  7. I been using them for 4 years and no complaints. There cheap to get replacement blades also. good broadhead.
  8. I would have let it walk. To heavy to drag. lol
  9. I grow mine out thicker for deer season. I heard a theory as to why people grow there beards out for hunting because it breaks up your face its like natural camouflage. About 2 deer seasons ago I grew my beard for deer season for the first time and me and my girlfriend liked it so I kept it. I only shaved it off one time and just trim it up when needed.
  10. it dont matter to me we would like to do it as cheaply as possible

  12. was just wondering if anyone knows a good place to go or if someone that wants them off there farm down south somewhere
  13. i always see it as the more time you get out there the better your chances will be. I just love being outside and wish i could be out more. If you spend alot of time in the woods you get alot back. I been hooked ever since i heard my first gobble about 4 years ago on my first turkey hunt. Which made the hair stand up on my arms because i was so excited. Im basically hooked on anything hunting though lol.
  14. Went out at 9 this morning and walked all over the 400 acre farm i have permission to hunt. The second piece of woods i got into i spooked out 2 hens. Then i did the 3rd piece and was tired after not hearing a single gobble. So, on my way to the fourth piece I almost decided to leave because i was tired of walking but i just pushed on. I got about 10 yards from the woods and i was in the field and just clucked and yelped for about 10 seconds. The one bird cut me off and gobbled. That was all i heard from the bird. So, I jumped into the woods popped up my decoy and sat down. 2 minutes later yelped 4 times and waited for them. Two birds walked in and i shot one. Its small but my first one only a 4 inch beard and i did'nt weight him.
  15. I was just thinking that we should start a thread about the tactics that have worked best for every turkey hunter on the forums. Best calls, tactics and set ups. Just to help anybody who reads this to be a more successful turkey hunter.I have never shot a tom personally but i think a major problem for me is over calling.
  16. Yea we went for the first time this year and we still had a good time and its a really cheap trip considering i already have the tag. The campsite is only 20 bucks for 3 days and its only a 2 hour drive there. It also is the biggest bear population area in new york state.
  17. i always wanted to go to Alaska to hunt especially an Alaskan Yukon moose
  18. were hunting in the fall in late september in an area we dont know to well so finding bear sign is hard
  19. What are the prices of most non-resident licenses in all the states on estimate.
  20. Im about an hour and a half up from the city We went last year and didnt see anything but it was still fun.
  21. Im planning on going back to the Adirondacks to hunt black bears this September. I was wondering if anyone here has hunted bear in the Adirondacks. Also, I was wondering what are some good techniques for hunting bear successfully. We can not bait bears in New York either.
  22. I just put a 2 man out the begining of the season and im not gonna take it down. I also have a really heavy hang on that is called the bark o lounger it weighs 35 pounds and i never take that down. Still have the same straps on it from 3 or 4 years ago. I think next year its definately time to do a little maintenance on it so the tree dont grow into it or fall out of the tree.
  23. I would call the better business bureau and tell them to you were gonna report to every hunting magazine and say how bad they are. You also have back up references on here to back your word up. Just from reading this i would not buy a stealth cam.
  24. yea i didnt buy anything cause it was expensive but i did see an over under 20 gauge and .223 that i wanted that is like the ultimate gun you can hunt almost everything with it. It would also be a good gun to have.
  25. I didnt know they even had boars in oklahoma
