  1. Re: quick question not the most comfortable hunting condition but some of the best. light drizzly rain is awesome for hunting..pouring down rain kinda sucks though. The "experts" say to hunt the light rain but avoid the heavy stuff. Hope this helps and good luck! Kyle
  2. Re: i have to change my opener plans depending on your setup that bull could be taken out pretty easily...just a thought! kidding of course but in all honesty if I were you I'd take my chances going through that pasture. What kind of uncle would do that anyway?? Good luck! Kyle
  3. Re: any suggestions on what bait to use ? help ple chalking another vote up for the apples...i pick them from our trees in our yard and put em out by my food plot and theyre gone in no time. Kyle
  4. Re: Doe urine cover scent If you're talking about using it as a cover scent and not an attractive scent you could use it any time of the year. If you want to spray something on the bottom of your boots for a cover scent i'd use raccoon urine..works great. Kyle
  5. Re: Best time to bow hunt Iowa ??? im from SW Wisconsin and the best time here would be 5-11 weekend. Bucks are into more of the chasing phase so I think thats definately your best option. Good luck! Kyle
  6. Re: Don\'t ever be afraid to sit a new spot I can't agree with you more Hutchie believe it or not but I moved all of my stands (which is only 4 but still) to new places this year. I was hunting too close to feeding areas and was only seeing does and small bucks so I basically moved them all back in the woods closer to bedding so hopefully Ill see more mature bucks. It's already paying off becuz I saw 3 mature bucks Saturday night from one of these stands. Im also putting a new stand up on Friday closer to where I saw them. Just give it a try and see what happens I guess, even if you dont see any deer at least youre still out in the woods, right? Kyle
  7. Re: Grimm Reapers never tried them myself but did consider switching this year. there was a thread not too long ago on here about the grim reapers and i heard nothing but good from guys that like mechanicals. some guys out there will say theyre crap but thats just becuz they're mechanicals in general. i guess all you can really do is test them yourself and see how perform for you. good luck and let me know how it goes. kyle
  8. Re: preventing or muffling coughs cough silencer? Kyle
  9. Re: Team 13 sorry i havent posted at all yet guys, not gonna lie, I totally forgot about signing up for this haha. Well I'm in south western wsiconsin and have been seeing some big bucks. Got a 150" 12 pointer on the game cam over my food plot. Went out last Saturday night and saw 5 different bucks, 3 were P&Y but too far away all coming from the same spot. Ill be putting a new stand up there this friday then letting it sit for a week or so before i hunt it. Basically waiting for the rut and late season here. Good luck team! Kyle
  10. Re: To bait or not to bait food plots my friend, food plots! haha I guess I don't really know what to tell you. Baiting is illegal in Wisconsin so I don't really have the predicament that you're in. I planted my first late season food plot this year and am hoping it'll work. Somehow apples from our apple trees in our yard miraculously find there way to my food plot too....very curious. Kyle
  11. Went out to a new stand I put out earlier this summer for the first time. Didn't see anything earlier on but about a half hour before dark I see a doe with two faws about 200 yards away coming through a thick grassy type field to my left. Didn't think much of it until I saw 3 bucks come up the same trail from the valley below. I don't have the best eyes ever and could easily see antler on the bucks from a pretty good distance without any binocs. Didn't have any deer come directly by my stand but I'm obviously going to be moving it after seeing what I saw tonite. All the deer seemed to be coming from the same general bedding area going towards the same fields so I'm pretty pumped even though I didn't get a shot. Hopefully I'll have time to put a stand up tomorrow before I head back to college. Kyle
  12. Re: Were to hang my stand? If theres a constant wind (non-swirling) down by the pines then I say go for it. If the wind swirls down there I'd definately put the stand on higher ground. Trust me on this, I've made the mikstake before and it cost me a shot at a P&Y buck. Kyle
  13. Re: My cast stinks, what do I do? I figured I just wouldn't wipe at all.....might work right? Kyle
  14. Re: Apple Trees what kind of cover is around these apple trees? is it pretty open or thick? We have like 10 apple trees in our yard and the deer hit them hard when winter comes..i go out there and can see them eating with the moonlight on the snow at night...its pretty awesome
  15. Re: Anybody Use Coon Urine? when i get in my stand i spray some on the tree im in, works well
  16. Re: My cast stinks, what do I do? haha im with you guys and the cutting it off part...sucky part is, is that i need it for another 2 months then still might need to have surgery done on it we'll see though. it's also my release hand so i dont know if a plastic bag would get in the way or not of me releasing my trigger. im thinking of getting an oversized rubber glove and putting that over it. thanks for the advice though! Kyle
  17. As some of you may now I broke my right wrist a while back and now have a cast on it. Well, unfortunately it's starting to smell "not so good" and im worried deer may smell me because of it. I have scent lok gloves but unfortunately they will not fit over my cast. I also have a scent lok shirt that reaches to my wrist but stops there. Anyone out there ever been through this and have any tips for me to keep the scent down as much as possible? Any help would be awesome, thanks in advance! Kyle
  18. Re: hunting land stress Earlier this summer we had the landowners of the land we've hunted for the past 10 years sell it to Developers....its sucks man. We're talking a HUGE valley prolly 200 acres, prime deer hunting in the hill country of wisconsin. When they can sell it for 4500 an acre though, I guess i cant really blame them. Lucky my mom has 100 acres of some pretty nice hunting land, so I always have that to fall back on. Good luck with your search though man, I know how youre feeling. Just keep at it and knock on doors, the worst that can happen is they say no and you move on to the next place. Kyle
  19. Re: How do I get to this stand? (pic) this map is orientated so west is on the left. most likely ill hunt it during a West or Northwest wind a little later in the season. I know deer bed along the edge of the steep hill to the west. later in the season when theres snow they will bed to the right along that ravine in the small pines that are there. Thanks for the help guys. I dont know if ill be able to hunt it in the morning but during the rut ill prolly get in there a little after first light and sit all day because the bucks cruise through the area.
  20. Re: first broadhead you used? 100 grain thunderheads..cant really go wrong with them! Currently using 100 grain 3 blade muzzies tho. Kyle
  21. Hey guys,. I'm going to be putting up a new stand this weekend on the other side of my food plot because theres much bette sign there. This side of the plot has a steep dropoff type cliff as you can see from the picture. If I wanted to hunt this stand in the morning what would be the best way to get to it without spooking deer (if possible because its about 10 yards in the woods off the foodplot edge). I was thinking the best way would be to come up from the lake in the valley right before the stand and climb up the cliff where its easiest to climb up but im not really sure. Let me know what youguys think! Thanks! For Clarification, the stand is basically the bottom left corner of the food plot just slightly in the woods. Kyle
  22. Re: Backstraps for breakfast boys!!! atta boy martin! you guys in EAB up there this year? now you can make some jerky for later in the season! mmmmmmmmmmmm Kyle
  23. Re: Question not gonna lie, sounds kinda fishy to me haha. are you absolutely positive that you drew back?? haha just kidding man, thats bow hunting for ya. Kyle
  24. Re: Updated Fall Plot Pics thanks guys. going to be putting a new stand on the other side of the plot from where i have my current stand. big oaks on that side dropping acorns with heavy trails so im pretty pumped right now for the rut and late season. should be an awesome spot.
  25. Had some free time before I head back off to college today so I went out and took a few pics of my Hamann Farms fall plot. Here they are...Looking awesome, cant wait til it starts getting cold! Thanks again Martin! Kyle
