I use the Delta Backyard Buck Legend and have used it for several years with the replaceable vitals. The arrow are fairly easy to get out it it's been pretty sturdy. Broadheads will chew it up pretty quick but most 3-D's are probably pretty much the same. If I had to buy another, I'd certainly give that one a priority.
  2. I friend of mine said to try fingernail polish. Said it would be easier to back out if you needed to move it again instead of loc-tite. Where would you get medium strenth loc-tite, a hardware store?
  3. I have a Tru Glo Brite Site Extreme sight and it has worked great. Lately, even though I tighten it good, the left to right windage adjustment is moving after about 6 shots. I can tell because the arrows start to go right, then I check and sure enough, I should have 4 1/2 white lines showing and now I have only 4 or less. I've been trying to reach TruGlo but theri number is always busy. Any thoughts?
  4. I do my flyfishing mostly at the Savage River in Western Maryland. It is the tailwater from the Savage River Reservoir and is a trophy management area. Lots of browns and brooks and a few rainbows that get out when they release water form the dam. Constant flow year round and naturally reproducing brooks and browns. Great water-pockets, pools, runs-all great fishing and lots of fish!
  5. I bought a Kong for this year and I'm looking forward to hanging it. I use a mini-ladder and the side of the tree that is perfect for the ladder is the opposite side to attach the strap. I bought a two-sided strap and replaced the one on the stand. (Original replacement from Gorilla and available at Wal-Mart for around $7.00. I bought mine at Bass Pro for $17 plus shipping. Go figure. Anyways, now I can use either side. One of the welds came loose on the first one I bought and it made noise when I stood up. I called the company and they sent a replacement. Nice to deal with too.
  6. I use the Delta Backyard Buck Legend with the replaceable vitals. It holds up pretty good and it is realistic looking for the price. Around $89.00 I think. I've shot a lot of fieldpoints into it before needing replaced. I will soon to begin shooting broadheads.
  7. Any flyfishers out there? I use the Cortland Braided Loop Leaders and I can't get the ends that are on the line to stop fraying. The directions say to use temperatures above 220 degrees but what do you use? I use a hairdryer on hi but I can't seem to secure the braided ends well enough. They come undone and then the leader gets caught up in it. Any suggestions?
  8. I know it takes extra effort but when I can (weather permitting) I hand wash in cold water and unscented laundry (HS Scents) soap and turn them inside out and line dry. Again, weather doesn't always permit this. Seems to help!
  9. I use the Gander Guide Series by Gander Mountain. They have a 2-piece system (inner & outer coat), in Realtree Hardwoods. It was warm last winter and I took the inner liner out which is also camoflauged in Realtree and used in during early Spring gobbler when it was chilly in the mornings and it worked great. The price was pretty reasonable also. It has a fleece inside besides the Thinsulate lining.
  10. Thanks for the reply. I'm actually talking about the Swiftree stick ladder. I'm trying to decide between that and the Big Game Treestands 20 ft. Quick Stick XL. I think you can't go wrong with the Summit but I like the fact that the Big Game on goes to 20' and I can step over to the hanging stand comfortably. The Summit stick is 17 ft so that only gives me 2 feet to play with in the dark.
  11. I called Renzo about a doe decoy I had and lost the steel posts. They said they would send them our at no charge. It took awhile but they did. I used the decoy last year and can't say that that it worked. It actutally blew over because I didn't secure it well enough. A deer came down the rdige behind me, I couldn't turn around as it was directly behind me at eye level (or so the noise seemed). I don't know if it saw the 'downed' deer or not but it went back up the ridge. I think it will work with the right circumstances. From a distance, it looks real enogh to me but then again, I'm not a deer!
  12. I shoot Easton Epic ST's and they shoot really well! Have you shot them before? I beleive10 Pointer is correct-thye are an HP insert.
  13. Anyone ever use the Summit ladder, the one with the single stick and the triangle style steps? Is it easy to put up, sturdy? Thanks for your help!
  14. I think about hunting year round. I'm out shooting the bow from a ladder stand in my back yard 3-4 times a week. I'm looking at a new spot to hunt on the private land I hunt, have the camera out and will be out soon to pick out the right tree and do the trimming and cut out a small path to get in quietly. Also checking all my gear, organizing, ordering any spare parts I need. I think part of what I like so much about hunting is the preparing and planning although it's nothing like being on the stand at daybreak! I'm also getting a lot of projects done around the house so I don't feel like I've neglected the place to go hunting.
  15. Anyone ever use Thro and Grow by Evolved Habitat? Does it work? Or does most of the food plot products work? I want to make a small plot way back in the woods where I hunt. Do I really need to use fertilzer and an acid reducer? I want it to be simple and not time intensive. Any thoughts?
  16. Same here, great hunts but no bird! Learned a lot this year about turkeys. Had more contacts with turkeys than I've ever had so it was a good season! Heard one this morning and I called but he never called back. It was in the same area that I missed that one so I suppose he had had enough of that call! He probably said no way am I answering that call, last time I did I almost got my head taken off! Congrats to all that got a bird this year!
  17. You're right, but the strange thing is that I was calm during the whole time. I watched him come in, kept the gun on him and didn't get the shakes. I don't know who was more surprised, him for getting shot at or me for missing! It was still incredible and a hunt I will never forget! Maybe tomorrow...we have two days left here in Maryland. I am currently unemployed due to a downsizing from my former company so I will be out both morning. I'll let you know what happens.
  18. Well, I set up Saturday morning and put the decoys in the clearing. Around 7 after calling every 20 minutes since 6 a gobbler fired up. He finally came in around 8, came in full strut towards the decoys and I shot and missed him!!! 30 yards!!!???? He stopped at the edge of the clearing and gave me another shot and guess what? Missed him again!!! He was a big gobbler and the first one I have ever called in! I was thrilled with that part of it but not the outcome! Went out yesterday and patterened the 12 guage and it's shooting fine, unfortunately the shooter (me!) wasn"t! That's why they call it hunting and not shooting! What an incredible experience seeing the gobbler come in!!!!
  19. I've done that awhile back and it brought some hens in several times. The last 3-4 times nothing came in (that I'm aware of!) I'll tri it again in the morning and let you know what happens! Thanks and congrats on your birds!
  20. Same thing here in Western Maryland. Birds are here but where? They won't even gobble coming off the roost. My buddy went out last week and he had birds everywhere but we went back to the same area last Saturday and didn't hear a bird at all! He got the biggest gobbler he ever shot! Go figure but that's why they call it hunting and not 'shooting'! A bad day hunting is still better than a good day at work! Nothing like being in the woods before daybreak, enjoying a hot cup of coffee and hearing the woods come alive! What a great place to be!
  21. Congratulations! I'm still waiting for my first one but I'm really happy for you!
  22. I'm a little new at tukey hunting on my own without my hunting partner and mentor(My buddy had to work on opening day here in Maryland) Did some calling and went to put the caller down and here comes a hen towards the decoy. She went behind a tree and I went for my gun(wasn't sure what it was at first). In the process I saw hen #2 and they both spotted me and took off. Then turkey #3 comes up over this rise and does a large loop around the decoy with it's head up like a periscope. It had a red head but I could not spot any beard, not even a little 'jake' beard so I let him pass. My buddy told me later it was a jake based on what I said. If you knew it was a jake but didn't see a beard, what would you have done?
  23. Anyone ever use Secret Spot by Whitetail Institute? When is the best time to plant it? Does it work?
  24. Don't want to sound uninformed but what is triflow? Thanks!
  25. I bought a 20' mini ladder to use with my Gorilla Trrestand. Any suggestions when I piece the ladder together so the connections don't lock together permanently? I thought maybe a coat of vaseline would help but any suggestions? I may move the stand during the season and I don't want to have to bang them apart.
