  1. Same problem here. Just as you get good and settled, the rumbling begins. I've tried to get down and catch them, but it's like they know when I'm in my stand and when I'm looking for them.
  2. Nice lookin' yote. I'm surprised that he made it with that arrow in him.
  3. I'd stick with the ladder stand. I have about the same setup on one of my stands. My wife used a 15' stand in the same area, and got busted a few times, but also saw many deer out of that stand. I would be more worried about the wind than the height.
  4. Well it sounds like the two hours were worth it. Congratulations.
  5. Sometimes I don't know if it's harder to be on your end or on his. I'll give him his props, anyone who will get in a sub has more cahones than me!
  6. Hate to hear this happening anywhere, but I really hate to hear it happening in OK. I worry about his every time I go hunting. Even though I have private hunting land, we still get poachers. I'm afraid one of them are going to do something stupid, that's why I carry a pistol with me when I hunt. These "accidents" seem to happen more with those hunting illegally.

    this website

I have to agree! I've encouraged every person that I hunt with to look into this site. Everyone here is great, encouraging, and willing to help. I joined while I was deployed to make up for missed hunting seasons. I get on every night I can and always enjoy what I read.
  8. I love it!! But I'm afraid that those of us who see things this way are being ignored. I'll leave it there before I get on a rant.

    doe #3

Posts like this just make me sick! Only because I'm 0-1. I've passed some small bucks up, but I missed on a doe. I'm ready to catch up, but things are looking tough right now.
  10. Congratulations! Nice lookin' buck.
  11. Scary!! Never cease to be amazed.
  12. Any Okie duck hunters ready for the opener. With the weather changing, I'm looking forward to see what the opening day is gonna be like. This year we'll be taking three kids for their first duck season. Should be interesting.
  13. Beautiful pics man, you've got me jealous!
  14. Congratulations! Feels nice to get back in the saddle.
  15. I don't know what happened to my brain today, but I somehow forgot it this morning and left it at the house when I went to hunt.:hammer1: I was about to climb out of my stand at 930 to make church this morning. My wife is away visiting her sister in MO so I could get away with a little morning hunt. As I was turning around to grab my bag I saw three does that had made their way behind me without my knowing. I haven't hunted this stand in about a year so some limbs have grown up not allowing shots in the area that they were feeding. After about twenty min. of watching these does skirt right along the areas I couldn't shoot a young doe walks into a shooting lane and beds down. The two other deer were still feeding around so I figured I'd hold off and see if I could get a shot at one of the larger does. 10 min. later the other two does bed down. At this point I'm racking my brain on the yardage. My range finder broke and I've not had the money to buy another one yet. This stand I'm in is a lot higher than the others I hunt from, and it seemed to skew my perception. Decided to take the young doe, and held for 30 yards. Clipped a limb!! She stood up, walked into another shooting lane trying to figure out what had just happened. I convinced myself that I had not made a bad yardage call, it was just the limb. Let the arrow fly... right over her back. Got down from the stand, walked it off, and I was about six yard off. Just barely missed over her back. I'm sick!! Maybe next time I'll take my brain with me. Need to make a note so I'll not forget to pack it.
  16. Boy that's a nice Oklahoma buck. Congratulations! I've just been getting skunked. But with tomorrows morning temps in the 30's I'm looking forward to it.
  17. Welcome to the forums brother. Glad to see you got on finally! Now you'll be hooked and your wife will be mad with you for spending time outside of the woods thinking about being in the woods while reading posts.
  18. I tell my hunting stories regularly. But I keep the location a secret. I've got a good chunk of private land I sure don't want people messing with that! I've had it happen before and it really puts a strain on a friendship!! Now I just refer to locations in a general nature and never give specifics unless it's a close hunting buddy that I can absolutely trust.
  19. I have really enjoyed the Magnus line of broadheads. I've used them for two years. The leave a great hole and have excellent penetration. I would recommend you take a look at them.
  20. About three years ago, I had something similar happen with a red tailed hawk. The hawk landed in a tree next to me close enough to touch. At first it kind of scared me. But after the initial shock I was intrigued watching him try to figure out what I was. He was chirping and making all sorts of noises. After a while he just floated off the limb and soared high. It was awesome!
  21. Think we're going to bake it for Thanksgiving. I'm working on the Fan/Beard/spurs mount right now. I'll post pics when I get done with it.
  22. Yeah Redneck, I'm shooting an Instinct. I love it!!
  23. My brother and I went out this morning to do some deer hunting and decided to hunt together out of a blind. At about 1000 we had a group of turkeys come by and I decided to take a shot at a Tom. I let the arrow fly and... nothing. I missed him clean. This is the second turkey I've shot at and missed out of my blind this year and I was starting to get a little irritated. I'm no competition shooter, but I don't usually miss. At about 1100 we decided to make our way home, and my brother opted to walk out through the woods to show me something he had seen on our land last week. On our way down I caught another turkey move about thirty yards in front of us. We stopped and I got an arrow knocked. The turkey made his way down the hill just a little bit, and I tried a sneak. I got within 30 yards and had one shooting window if he would make his way to it. Sure enough he crossed where I thought he would and I laid the smack down on him. He's got an 11" beard and 1 1/2" spurs. I'm pretty stoked. Sorry for the long post. My Son, Aidan and my brother Josh who was with me when I shot the Tom.
  24. Own a dozen arrows, and I take 3 or 4 in the field with me. Gold Tips. That's about all I can afford is a dozen.
