There was a time when my brother wouldn't get up before nine for a million bucks. This morning he calls me at 445 and says he's on his way. We're gonna be out a little late cause of the rain. I'm just pumped that he's going hunting. Unbelievable what a little age and maturity can do to a guy. So now we're off to sit in the rain, hope we see something.

Just got a text from my brother who is hunting from a blind as I post. He just got busted by a deer. They came from a direction this evening the don't usually come. He's not at worried about scent as I am, but I bet he is after this evening.

Are you crazy!! I wouldn't think twice about it... just be trying to keep the shakes under control.

I used to make my own lick mix. I've lost the recipe, but I could buy the ingredients at the feed store and mix them for about a third of the price, and have about ten times the lick solution. I do the dove soap thing too. I'm going to get some flack about this one, but I've taken up sewing my own hunting clothes... done one shirt that came out alright. I can get the material for cheap, major cost is my time. Once I get better at it I'm going to buy scent loc material and try sewing a set.

My family and I hunt a lot out of a blind. Love it! I don't own a piece of scent lok. We are just careful of our scent in the way we wash, and using scent free soap. Have been winded in a blind, but if you do like Tink said treat it like any other stand. I do think you'll enjoy the blind. I just use my regular hunting clothes. Just be careful about how much light you allow in and they'll be hard pressed to see you in there.

Great man. Congratulations! It's on now. You won't be able to get enough. Amazing shot at 40yards

That's a cool story! Congrats

Everyone is now on the hot seat! I have a hypothetical for you...

Nope not a chance... couldn't make it without hunting for five years. -
I got up early this morning to watch some hunting shows on TV before I went to church. At about 7:30 my 14m old son woke up and was ready to get out of bed. I thought "well here goes my peace and quiet, I won't be able to watch the shows now." So I went and got him out of bed, got him some milky and sat down on my couch with him. He just snuggled up to me and watched "Duck Commander" and "Bone Collector" with me. He would point out the deer for me and say "ooooh." That was the best morning I've had in a while. I just can't wait 'till he's out in the field with me. I think he's gonna be a little hunter.

Go to "Post Photo" under the community tab. Click on the deer hyperlink and upload the picture. After you've got it in the photo pages you can add it by copying the URL it gives you. There are other ways to do it I think but thats how I know to do it.

Unfortunately I don't have pictures cause I didn't shoot anything... but I did have 15 deer walk by my blind this morning. I was gunning for a doe, but didn't get a shot. Over half of the deer were spikes or forks. This is pretty odd because I have never seen that many bucks on my land, usually it's a ton of does. Had one nice 8 point walk by at about 15 yards, but I decided to let him grow. He was only, my guess, a 2.5 year old, but had a very nice set of horns. Can't wait to see what he looks like in a few years.

Went out this morning with my brother, got skunked. He tried to put a sneak on some turkeys, and got close enough for two different shots but had brush in the way... We'll be out again tonight. After the morning hunt went to one of our little food plots that hadn't been doing too well and found out that this past month of moisture had done it well, and the deer are tearing it up. Put up our ground blind and will try it tonight. Good luck to all.

I sure hope I can help bump the record up. Like Hutchies, I set a personal record last year. I have been seeing more deer than in a few years previously.

I shoot an Instinct. Have for the past two years. I love it, can't wait till tomorrow, hopefully I can make some string music with it.

IT doesn't have to be expensive at the start. My guess is you'll only need a few dekes because they are already coming into your field. Secondly, don't overcook waterfowl, if you cook it to well done it will have liver taste and be tough. Thirdly, don't let anyone tell you that a 20 ga isn't enough. That's all my brother hunts with, as long as their 20-30 yards and you make a good shot they'll fold. Good luck and I think you'll find waterfowl is very rewarding.

My father and I used black cloud two years ago when it first came out. We personally didn't like it. We found that we started having more cripples and missed shots. We switched back to Kents and haven't had any more trouble. But on the flip side I've heard a lot of people that swear by it.

I do believe that I'll be out in it rain or shine. I may not stay out very long but I've got to make the opening day. It was going to be in the fifties, now their saying sixties. Hope it doesn't get any warmer.

I sure do know your disappointment. Keep your chin up though, last year I hunted hard for two weeks strait without seeing a single deer. Then like magic I shot two deer within another two week period... If you've done everything you know how to, then just get out there and put your time in. I'm sure you'll be posting soon with some good news.

What color flashlight do you guys use to get to your stand? I've always used green or white ( I just hold my hand over the light to narrow the beam to almost nothing.) I do have a new light with a blue lens on it. Will blue light spook deer?

Anyone out there an Archery shop owner? I would like to know what all it takes to get one started. This isn't something I'm planning on doing real soon, but it's an option I would like to pursue.

I've only got to see one of the duck commanders... and I likey! I'm with you I can't wait to start busting the sky.

DON'T GIVE UP!!! I have been hunting my 1000 acre property for about seven years now. It took me about four years to get things figured out. Partly because I had some learning to do, and the other part was that I had a ton of land and just couldn't narrow my hunting down. I had a vast amount of land thrown in my lap when I got married and I just had overload. Take all of the great info your getting in this forum, and take it step by step. If your bowhunting, be ready for some disappointments. Look forward to seeing your post this fall of the deer you're gonna get.

I'll have to second that. I would like to get one of the Double Bulls, but I have to save up for that. I bought my first blind to have something to get my grandad back in the field... the Ameristep G-20 worked great. The shooting windows are not as nice s I would like, but they do the job. We had several deer shot out of that blind and it only gave out because I left in the elements and we had some pretty hard winds that blew it half way across the woods. That'll teach me to be lazy next time!!
