  1. I'll have to second that. I would like to get one of the Double Bulls, but I have to save up for that. I bought my first blind to have something to get my grandad back in the field... the Ameristep G-20 worked great. The shooting windows are not as nice s I would like, but they do the job. We had several deer shot out of that blind and it only gave out because I left in the elements and we had some pretty hard winds that blew it half way across the woods. That'll teach me to be lazy next time!!
  2. I shoot the original Magnus 2 blades. I can't say enough about them!! I killed two dear last year and they sliced right through. I've never hunted hogs but I have a buddy who said that his magnus smashed right through the shoulder plate of his hog, and was still intact.
  3. Can anyone out here tell me if there is something good to plant where cattle are able to get to the food plot. I am not really able to keep the cattle out of my food plots and I was wondering if there is something I could plant that the cattle wouldn't be interested in. Thanks for the help.
  4. I think I'd have to say a waterfowl hunt with either Brad Farris or Troy Ruiz. I like the Primos guys alot, the seem down to earth and seem to have alot of fun.
  5. 100 gr. Magnus all the way. I love them!!!

    Robin Hood

Now before I make my claim I know the rule about posting a pic to support, but the only one I have is on my phone and I'll have to figure out how to upload it. So on to my claim, I got my first Robin Hood today, a bitter sweet moment, because now I'm one arrow down and they aint cheep, but pretty cool to be shooting that tight. Anyways, just had to tell someone... can't wait 'till october, so I can put one in a boiler.
  7. Well, I thought he was bigger than that, but when I put it to tape that's what I got... however I was measuring by myself and it's the first one I've done with abnormal points... I'd like to get it scored, but I didn't shoot it so I don't know if anyone would be interested in bothering their time with it.
  8. Okay, I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this one in the shed hunting thread cause it's not really a shed, but I don't know where else it will fit. Here's the story... My father-in-law and I were working cattle about two weeks ago and we were walking the creek bottom. I started seeing rubs about every twenty feet. This is an area that I haven't ever hunted... don't ask me why. I thought that while we were walking around I should start looking for sheds... I know it was a little early, but I thought I might find some old ones that had avoided the squirrels and mice. So for the big find!! I looked up on one of the creek banks and got upset because I thought I had found a dead calf... after further investigation I found this hog! He had fifteen scoreable points and one little nub that isn't quite long enough. My guess it this guy was shot by a poacher who either got scared off or just didn't find him. I talked to all our neighbors that hunt and none of them had lost this buck so I guess it's mine. I'm pretty excited, 'cause I knew there were good bucks on my place I just didn't know they were of this caliber. I did some measurements... these are rough guys, but I think he would score somewhere in the 130s.

    Bear Archery???

I also bought a Bear Instinct last year. I took two deer with it this year and I absolutely love it. It is the easiest bow I've shot. I also tried out others (bowtech, Matthews...) I just didn't see enough difference for the price. I would recommend a Bear to anyone!
  10. Well guys I almost didn't go out tonight, don't ask me why but I debated with myself on whether I should hunt or take the rest of the day resting on the couch. Well I got out today at about 3:00 and saw nothing but squirrels. Then right at about ten minutes before shooting time was coming to a close I heard another squirrel working his way behind me to my right. The more I listened the more I started thinking it might be a deer. Sure enough out steps a buck making his way to the bedding area. I gave him a quick grunt and he kept walking. So I thought I'd get a little more aggressive. I grunted loud and hard and he stopped in his tracks. I "growled" at him and gave a few more grunts and he committed. He walked under my stand about fifteen yards. This is the first buck I've successfully called in. He was searching for the deer and then he looked right up at me. I wasn't drawn back yet, so as soon as he looked away I drew and let the arrow fly. I hit him a little more forward than I would have liked but it did the job. I got down and it was getting dark fast so I started looking for my arrow, when I couldn't find it I backed out and called my brother. On the way back into start finding the blood trail we came across the trail. It was a fairly easy find, even though it was in the dark. This is my first bow buck. I was laughing with my brother I've bow hunted for about eight or ten years (if you count deployments, but I don't) and this is the first year I've connected with my bow, and now I've killed two deer in less than a month with my bow. Good year, my brother came back from his deployment and we've been able to hunt together, my first son was born, and I've finally connected with my bow. The Lord has been good.
  11. Congratulations. He's a good looking bird. Nice size!!
  12. Well I'm going to work today so I can make some more tax dollars to support the unwilling to work.
  13. Unfortunately it looks as if the Lord has done what He said he would do... he's given us over to our own desires. I hope everyone enjoys those desires. As for me I'm sick, not because a black man has won... I find that to me commendable. I'm sick because of the platform on which he ran. I wonder what life will be like as my child grows older. I fear that we have seen America at her greatest and we're on the slippery slope downward. And for those who may view that statement as unpatriotic, I am a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. I'm an infantryman who has seen combat and still am serving in our nations armed forces. I'm not tooting my horn, just saying I'm about as patriotic as a person could be, but I'm finding less and less worth fighting for here... I'm not sure where this great nation is heading and it scares me. May God have mercy on us and may we as Christians be bold to change the world we live in, for I believe that is our nations only hope.
  14. I know what you mean about putting in the time and someone else ruining it for you. We have a lot of roadside hunters, and some tresspassers. They have somehow eluded capture. Though last weekend I was fixing fence and watched a truck pull up to our fence line not 100 yards from me and begin to let someone out. I jumped in the truck and headed their way and they quickly departed. What irritates me is all the work and effort I put in, passing on shots feeding scouting and these guys reap the benefits. It makes you like it's all worthless. But never the less we'll keep on proding forward.
  15. Congrats, that's awesome. I love your last picture very well done on that one. (actually on all of them, I just really liked that one.)
  16. very nice! Good job. Can't wait to take my first bow buck, your getting me pumped up.
  17. I'm sad to say that we just didn't find her. My brother was shooting a muzzleloader, and as we talked about it more we felt stronger and stronger that everything added up to a hit. We went back the next day and combed the area for about two hours and we found nothing. We searched for blood all the way to the tree line we saw her enter but came up short. The thing that bothers me is I am positive she was hit and I hate to leave something we killed to waste. My only hope is that it was a freak miss that looked like a hit... and I was afraid my brother was going to take it a little sore. He didn't though he just said "we've done all we can do and we'll make sure we do it better next time." So hopefully this weekend he'll be able to redeam his self. Thanks for the advice and sorry I haven't gotten back sooner but I've been working late and heading straight to bed.
  18. Was fixing fence saturday and watched a truck with two men in camo drive by, we were going to another area to check cows and saw the truck parked by our land a little ways up the road. I took off toward them and they hopped back into thier truck and sped away, I was hoping to get a license plate but no luck. Makes me so mad.
  19. Well guys I went out hunting with my brother and we had an interesting night. We went out about four this afternoon and kicked up a doe on our way in. We saw two deer at about six thirty and my brother was able to get a shot at the doe. She was quartering away and as soon as he shot she "mule kicked." So at that point I felt pretty confident about the shot. She ran about fifteen yards and turned around and looked at us for about two min. then she just casually walked away into the woodline. We went to the spot where he shot at her and we weren't able to find any blood... What do you guys think... should we go back looking for her later tonight or in the morning or does it sound like she wasn't hit? I'm sick about the whole ordeal any help would be appreciated.
  20. Wow that is quite impressive!! I don't know who told you not to shoot him... I don't think I would have been able to pass up a shot... I don't know if I would have connected (due to the excessive shaking) but I'd have let an arrow fly. I would love to take a deer of any size with my recurve, I just don't feel confident with it so the only thing that needs to be scared of it are my 3D targets. Congratulations.
  21. Looks like a great place to hunt.
  22. Very nice! Congratulations on the land access. That looks like a pretty nice buck, I'd like to see the ones bigger than him. I'll be looking for some more pictures.
  23. Congratulations! My grandfather is 76 this year and he can't wait to get out this weekend for muzzle loader season. He doesn't get around as well as he used to, and he don't stay near as quite, but I decided a few spooked deer is worth the time in the field with me, don't know how many more years he'll be able to do it. I love hunting period but the best times I've had are the ones spent with my family.
  24. Well guys... she's no Booner but I'm pretty stoked! I've been bowhunting for about nine years and have had a lot of close calls and misses... but tonight I've scored. We had a weather change and it got colder today so I got out this morning with no luck. I had to do some stuff around the house but I was able to sneek back into the woods about 3:30 this afternoon. Pretty slow so I started playing brickbreaker on my cell phone. At about six I told myself that it was prime time so I'd better get my game face on... and I looked to my left and this doe had snuck up on me. I was able to draw back and had my thirty yard pin on her but previous yardage mis-judging made me second guess my estimate. I let off and she turned her direction of travel and ended up directly infront of my stand at 18 yards. I had to calm myself down to take the shot. The funny thing is I've taken several deer with muzzle loader and rifle, even a nice eight point... but this one shook me up. I don't know if it was the excitment of finally fulfilling my desire to take one with a bow or what. Anyways, I jerked when I shot (think it was my nerves) hit a little higher than I would have liked but I did get to watch her trot off to about fifty yards from my stand and fell right there. Another cool thing was there was a small six point with her and he never even left, ended up coming back under my stand at about twenty yards and munched his way on down the trail. I can't believe he didn't spook. Well I'm pumped, I can't wait for the next one!!P.S. This is my first child with me, Aidan Lee, can't wait to get him out in the woods.
