  1. Our 14-year-old nephew in Indiana just made Eagle Scout! We are all very proud of him. I was a Girl Scout growing up, and my husband was a Boy Scout. We look forward to our children also being involved in the scouting world over the years to come. Fortunately, the system is alive, well and respected where we live. David Ashburn (aka Exturkinator) was an Eagle Scout, and he was as proud of this as he was of his medical accomplishments!
  2. Me, too!! That looks great! Nice work.

    Pit BBQ

    You're all making me hungry.
  4. Jaret and bride, Wishing you the luck you asked for plus blessings, patience, health and happiness. May you always love, respect, encourage and support one another. And end every night with a kiss. Congratulations! Laura
  5. I think every one of us could do whatever we needed to do in any situation, provided there be a good enough reason to do it. . . . If I have a headache, I'll so something about it, like have a drink with caffeine or take Tylenol. Why suffer simply for the "experience" of suffering? Did that already with childbirth. Could I survice? Absolutely. Would I put myself and my family through it just "because"? No, thank you!
  6. Hope all your birthday wishes come true! Have a great day!
  7. I do hope that wasn't all he was wearing. . . .
  8. Oooo, cool . . . . this one would look good on the Harley.
  9. Thanks! Thanks, all, for the kind birthday wishes! We just got back from a 3-day excursion to the west side of the state which included some time out on Lake Michigan for a little fishing. It was the kids' first time on the big water and, thanks to low waves, fun snacks and a deck of cards (plus their plain old love for being outside), the time was enjoyed by all. (Okay, Seabands and Dramamine may have entered the picture at some point. ) Unfortunately, we were skunked. Not one fish. Oh well, that's why it's called "fishing", not "catching", right? Still, it would have been nice to have brought in just one . . . . Again, I appreciate the birthday wishes from such an awesome group of people. . . I'm sure glad that I made the choice to visit the forums for the first time back in June. I'm even more glad that I decided to take my coat off and stay a while.
  10. French Fried Skunk 3-4 servings 1½ hours 20 min prep 2 skunks, skinned and cleaned 1 tablespoon salt water, to cover 2 cups bear fat or lard 2 egg yolks, beaten 3 cups milk or cream 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons baking powder Clean and wash the skunks, making sure that the scent glands are removed. Cut up into small serving pieces. Put a soup kettle on the stove and add the meat. Cover with cold water and bring to a boil over high heat. Lower the heat and boil until the meat is tender, about 40 minutes. Remove all the scum that rises to the surface. Make a batter by mixing together the egg yolks, milk, flour, salt and baking powder. Mix real good until the batter is about like cake batter. Heat the bear fat or lard in a deep fryer to about 360 degrees. Dip the pieces of skunk in the batter and then fry them in the deep fryer until golden brown. Drain well and serve. Bon Appetit!!
  11. Great - why did this have to be the last post I looked at before going to bed!? Sweet dreams . . . . . NOT!!!

    Tooth Fairy

Ah, "the brother". . . similar thing happened with one of my brother's kids, only it was brother to brother, not the sissy, who got teeth knocked out. Your poor little girl, though. . . at least she got a Barbie out it! Thanks for all the great thoughts so far - Jeramie's fancy ideas would be a huge hit with our son but also a huge hit to our bank account! (I know he was kidding. ) I was honestly thinking about a shiny new silver dollar. Or, as he's starting to pull back his Golden Eagle Brave bow now, maybe a little arm guard or hunting gear would be cool. Something special for the first tooth, like others suggested, is a nice idea. It's getting close!
  13. If that's not something straight out of my life, then I don't what is! Very funny, Buckee!
  14. Whatever you do, be sure to BLOT, not rub. Try alcohol. First, a dab for the ink spot, then a shot for you. No, really, try blotting with rubbing alcohol. And get a nice drawing pad for that little artist of yours. Good luck!

    Tooth Fairy

Our son's first loose tooth is hanging on by a thread. How much is the Tooth Fairy leaving under pillows these days? Thanks!
  16. Just a reminder of my earlier post. Don't want to leave you all with the impression that I think Peyton is invincible!
  17. I would venture to guess that there's not much of anything you could do with a 285 lb. defensive end on top of you. Ouch, it's just plain painful to think about.
  18. Aren't surprises great?! I loved reading your story on how you found out you won, right down to tripping over the dog. Hope it all comes together for you with the draw!
  19. Bite your tongue! Peyton, a "bum"?! Never! Ahh, my eyes are burning after reading that!!! I can't see. . . . help. . . . . . . . . . True enough, the offensive line can make or break even the most skilled QB out there (who happens to be Peyton Manning, of course). Glad to read that your man, Quinn, signed, and here's to a great season of football!

    13 more days!!!!!!!

You're not excited, now are you, Andrea? Do you start the happy dance immediately after the bus doors shut or wait until it drives out of sight?
  21. -thing, Sad as it was, who got the backstraps? Letting that meat go to waste would only make the story that much more unfortunate. -side
