  1. Yeah for the guy that left it. I would have had to leave a note or something. I can't understand why anyone would leave a firearm out in the woods though. Why not keep it with you?
  2. I hate it when I do that. Not bow hunting related but saturday was Ohio's late muzzleloader start. I was taking my daughter out to try to get her first deer. We got all suited up nice and early and I started looking for the caps for the ML Yep you guessed it, at home on the couch. I drove home and back as quickly as I could but it was still getting light on us. We saw two driving into the property but not another deer that day.... One that realy bugs me is when I forget the seat pad for my treestand! I just can't sit on that thing that long. I learned on my release along time ago to have a backup in my pack. Problem is I sometimes don't bring my pack. I've done much better with not forgetting things with trad gear. I've forgot a shooting glove a time or two but I can shoot a couple shots without one before my fingertips fall off so I guess I'm ok without one. LOL Armguards are all over the place in my vehicles. I've had to search for those a time or ten.
  3. A friend of mine shoots that same bow at 50 lbs. It does well for him. I don't remember shooting it but I know I have. I've shot a good number of trad bows. It seemed like a decent bow. Actualy for anyone looking for a trad bow. Don't forget the older bear bows. Some of them shoot great and you can get them for a very cheap price.
  4. I too bought a Bear instinct recently. I paid 299 at Bass pro. I had the arrows already just needed to get them cut down. This bow is alot faster than my previous bow. However, I paid 100 for it in 1993 or 1994 at walmart. It was a PSE Team Fitzgerald and I bought it on clearance. It had the rest sights and quiver. I set it all up and have been bowhunting with it since. Many deer have fallen to that bow. I can shoot 3 inch groups at 40 yards with it. (something I have yet to try with my Instict) Why buy a new bow. Well the fact is the older bow had cracks starting in the limbs. PSE says they will look at it but I have yet to take it in and thought it was time to get something better. The top of the line stuff is WAY out of my price range. And I was supprized to find the one I did. It shoots great and hits hard. IBO rated for 306 fps. So its no slouch for speed either. I can remember people were all about speed when I bought the bow 14 years ago. I couldn't afford the newest fastes then, and I refuse to spend that now. Sure you can easily get wowed by the advertising but what they do not want you to know is 150 fps kills just as well as 350 fps. And actually 150 fps is alot more forgiving of form errors etc. Now to be honest I haven't hunted the whole 14 years with that same bow. I got into Traditional Archery and have built a good number of selfbows. My current setup is shooting a whopping ~150 fps obsidian tipped, turkey feather fletched, rivercane arrow. Sure I cant shoot 40 yard groups but at 12-15 yards.....It will kill them too....Best thing is the cost...My entire trad hunting setup cost me....drumroll pease.......ZERO.... OK maybe not exactly 0 but very close I have a little money in a couple hand tools (maybe 40) and the string and obsidian cost me a little (very cheap) So if you average the tool cost over all my bows and the string and obsidian cost....I probably have 5 bucks in it (and a good bit of work. But I enjoyed that part too.) I think the newest greatest fastest prettiest thing will always cost way more than you need to pay. Look at anything Electronics for example. The newest advances in computers cost twice what they do six months later. The newest game system, tvs, movie players(VCR,DVD, Blue ray) all have had thier time at the top and are all getting cheaper. The archey industry has gotten huge. There are a bunch of bow manufactures. This usualy means cheaper prices. Unfortunatly the need for speed has caused them to compete driving prices through the roof. That and good old inflation. OK I got long-winded. I hope some of it makes sense at least.
  5. Congrats!! Great video too... Loved it
  6. All I have seen are does and young bucks.... Ok you come here....I'll go there....LOL Don't underestimate mature does. They can be tricky!
  7. So all your seeing is bucks???
  8. Man it happens. We do everything we can to ensure it doesn't but the truth is sometimes things happen. You did the right thing trailing him and you owe it to any animal you shoot.
  9. Your gonna have a time topping that buck!! Congrats!
  10. I just got back from Bass pro and picked up a few lights. Ended up finding them cheaper at another store later but oh well.
  11. why wait. you should take the deer right away no let them lay overnight? If you couldn't find the first why shot the second? I don't understand.
  12. Thats the ones I'm talking about. I've heard the closer to the equator the smaller they are. 350 field dressed deer in Canada seems to support that huh. I can't imagine. 250 was enough work with two of us dragging. 350 It would take me two days to get to the truck.
  13. No big bucks. Shot a big doe tuesday though. I posted same pics. and the story too. Hope to get out this weekend for a buck. If not I still have bowhunting to do. http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80112
  14. Dang your fast. I got to get my lights first! Pretty neet huh!
  15. I wouldn't realy consider all Ohio deer realy small. Go to florida if you wanna see small deer. So what did that deer weigh field dressed? A big buck around here will go around 200 field dress. though most bucks are less than that and go around 150-175. I did managed to kill one last year that went 250.
  16. First off congrats to you both! And second she's either realy small or that is a big bodied little buck...or both.... Again Congrats!! your a lucky man.
  17. Yeah kinda why I wanted to try making them for a couple bucks a peice. Check out the link I posted. Looks pretty easy and much cheaper than what I have seen of the premade ones.
  18. Well I doubt it as the light it on the back of the arrow. Would be interesting to see what it looks like from the target side though.
  19. Anyone ever make there own. I'd like to try some of the lighted nocks but they seem a bit pricey. Being cheap (LOL) I wouldn't mind trying to make some myself. Anyone got a website or instructions on this. I have seen it in the past but haven't found it again. Thanks
  20. We don't get snow to often either. Even in bow season after gun. I can't say I've killed to many in the snow. It wasn't much but was nice to see a little farther into the tangle I hunt in. I saw all of the group she was in far sooner than I normaly would have. In a way I would have liked to trail her farther. But I was glad to have her down close too.
  21. Great video. I took a camera with me and will again when we get out again. I'd love to see her take a deer and catch it on film. ...Heck I'd rather her shoot one than me anyday. Tell your daughter congrats from my and my daughter. And congrats to you too!
  22. My daugther is 12 also. She shot at this one and nicked it and then in youth season hit a doe hard with my shotgun. Unfortunatly we think she hit her really high. We looked all day but never found her. So this weekend I'm hopefull she'll get to redeem her shooting ability. And she's itching to!
  23. Cograts! Hunting and family go hand in hand. I wish my dad would still hunt with me. At least he's there when I get one. He just has nodesire to go out with me.
  24. We I decided to take a couple days off from work for the Ohio shotgun season. I have been focused pretty much on my daughter getting a deer this year I hadn't realy spent a huge amount of time in the woods alone. However, my efforts got my daughter her first shot at a nice doe a month ago or so...unfortunatly it was not to be ...the arrow from her crossbow hit a limb and skimmed across the doe's back giving her a cut. I watched the deer for 15 minutes and was sure she was ok and off she went. We did get down and check the arrow and even trailed a ways but I knew she was ok. Anyway, Opening day of gun last year I killed a realy nice 10 point. So I figured what the hech lets take the first two days and hunt. So out I went opening day... it was cold and snowing and WINDY, I saw no deer that day. The next day I was determined to sit all day. Unfortunatly our youngest daughters (23 month old twins) have been sick. So we had to take them to the hospital yesterday as well. Originaly I said to myself Monday was buck only for me. Then tuesday was buck or Nice mature doe. Well I had a deer under me at just before legal light and the snow made it real easy to see. Good Sign I thought. I saw a small buck and 2 does at 100 yards. I didn't feel like taking the long shot and the buck was small anyway. About 30 minutes later 6 does wander out in front of me at 50 yards. I piced the biggest one and put a slug through her shoulders...She hit the ground kicking but got turned and up on her hind legs and plowed away at an amazing speed. I didn't want to loose her so I sent another round her way breaking her back down as well. I walked up to her and put her down for good (though my first shot was no doubt very fatal. I hate for any to suffer if I can go ahead and send another round through them. Anyway, The reason for the long story. I went to dress her out and I flip her over to drain her out and what is on her back but a cut from a broadhead. You guessed it. The exact same doe my daughter shot at. I couldn't believe it. She's a nice size doe for the area. In fact a guy at the check in after me had a nice half rack (would have been 8) that my doe was as big as. Made me feel good. Ok on with the pics.
