  1. Scope Dude, looks like that scope can't get any farther back be careful not to turn your eye into a donut hole when you take it to the range.
  2. Fox Pro Thanks for the input, I ended up going with the new FOXPRO Scorpion, all digital call and it also has an a Mini-SD slot, which was the selling point with me plays WAV, MP3, and Foxpro. Came with 100 pre-loads. Gonna try it out next week.
  3. Any big advantage to the high $$ model has more memory, do i need an extra 30 sounds?
  4. I am going to purchase an Electronic call for Coyote, Fox and Bobcat hunting. Any advice? I was leaning toward the Foxpro. I would like something that is easy to update and make changes to. I am sure you guy's are more knowledgable than I am any advice would be appreciated.
  5. I have an API Bowhunter, very comfortable and grips the tree really well. I also have a Lone Wolf sit and climb that I got this year. Cannot say I like the LW as well, the band grips well, but, they get too loose as you go up the tree ( feels like to you need to re-adjust about half way up). Maybe I will get used to it.
  6. API Bowhunter Magnum, like it a lot. Also have a Lone Wolf Alpha sit and climb, not a big fan.

    .243

.257 Roberts I would go with the .257 Roberts, way better on both ends thant .243. Only problem Ruger Hawkeye M77 is the only current production gun I can think of in .257. You can find Remingtons and an occasional Winchester, be prepared to pay though for the older guns, especially Winchester.
  8. I posted a similar thread to this not having read yours, but I have found the same thing you have. I think the 150g powder load is more Hype than Hunt. My Encore shoots great with 2x50g pyrodex pellets=100g behind a Barnes MZ Expander 250g. Everytime I have pressed it over 100g of powder my groups open up. PS: not a big fan of shockwaves, in my experience they are "fragile" , my2c, some people love em'.
  9. check regs I would recommend start be checking the regs of the state you hunt in, my state requires a minimum of 50 grains. I think 80 grains of loose Pyrodex would be ample, we loaded a knight wolverine with that load for a friends son who is 11 and it was fine.
  10. thanks for the feedback, gonna stick with the old 100gr Pyrodex pellets again this year.
  11. I shoot 100 grains of Pyrodex behind a 250 grain Barnes Expander MZ out of my Encore. I also shot this same load in my Knight Disc. Those MZ's look ugly but shoot great. Not a big fan of Shockwaves, the ones I have shot deer with did not hold together well when they hit bone. I have not tried the bonded shockwaves.
  12. I have switched back and forth between using 150 and 100 grains of powder and it seems that I get far better results accuracy wise with 100 than with 150. I shoot an Encore with Barnes Expander MZ's and it will cloverleaf @ 100 yds with 100 grains but the groups open up @ 150 grains of pyrodex. Does anyone else have any experience along this line, 150 grains sounds better but just does not seem to produce the same results.
  13. Congratulations, nothing justifies a new purchase like success in the field. Can't kill that in Virignia.
  14. Not far form your neck of the woods, I am in Powhatan Va, Also hunt in Cumberland, Buckingham and some in Greenbrier WV. This is the time here has been a cool for Va October and early mast crop. Seeing a lot of deer so far during bow season, just not the deer yet. Gotta love VA deer hunt Saturday and Rockfish on Sunday! Congragulations on the new rifle, looks like a keeper.
  15. I have the original Encore with the .50 Muzzle loader barrel and the 26" heavy barrel 300 win mag. I like it, shoots well, the 300 is my Beanfield gun after Muzzle Loader season closes here in Va. I did replace the pan scews in the forestock with Torex screws and I tourqe them to 25 lbs. It seems to make a difference when they are tightened equally.
  16. Sorry, I am new to the Board I do appreciate the advice though. I will get a copy of the book.
  17. Short-Trac Last year I bought the new Short-Trac BAR in .308. I have been very happy with the it, I am a Lefty, so it suits me well. Mine is in Mossy OAK finish with the Duratouch stock and it's way lighter than the old BARS. It is pretty respectable accuracy wise 1-1.5 @ 100 with Federal 150gr NBT.
  18. I am looking to start handloading for a Remington 700 .257 Roberts, Factory ammo has become difficult to get. Does anyone have "Pet Load" they are willing to share. I have been shooting Federal Factory Nosler Partitions, thinking of either staying with that or maybe Barnes TSX. Mostly hunting Whitetails, with the occasional fox and coyote.
